Dragon’s Dogma 2 - What does the Ancient Battleground Key open?

Dan Webb

If you happen to wander off the beaten path on the way to the Checkpoint Rest Town in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll no doubt come across Oskar who’s stood at the gate of the deadly Ancient Battleground area - and when we say deadly, considering one of the first things you see when entering the area is a dragon fighting a cyclops, you know you’re in for a whole world of hurt.

In order to get to the Ancient Battleground, you need to head north off the path that leads to the Checkpoint Rest Town (north of the body of water to the east of the town). On that path you’ll find Oskar, who will want you to accompany him and protect him on his way to the cenotaph, which can be found in the middle of the Ancient Battleground. Agreeing to help will kick off the side quest, “Toiled to Rest.”

Toiled to Rest is a fairly battle-heavy quest, as you help Oskar fight his way to the top of the Ancient Battleground. For helping Oskar complete his objective, he’ll reward you with 9,000 gold and an Ancient Battleground Key. Now, at this point you’re probably wondering what does the Ancient Battleground Key open? And it’s a good question, as it can be incredibly easy to miss.

If you head to the 2F of the Ancient Battleground - in the actual fortress itself - there’s actually a door there that the key can be used on (in the northern corridor of the second floor).

Now, the reason that it’s easy to miss is that it’s actually hidden behind a stack of crates that you need to destroy first. So, destroy the crates and use the key to open the door, and boy, are you in for some treats.

Not only will you find 2,200 gold and one of the valuable Ferrystones in this small room, but you’ll also get your hands on the Infernal Edge duospear, which can be wielded by the Mystic Spearhand class - which you can unlock fairly early on into your trip through Battahl (Sigurd grants you access to this class, when you reach the Dragonbreath Tower).

As far as rooms go, though, this was a pretty valuable room, with some pretty insane goodies to get your hands on. Go there. Now. You owe it to yourself. Plus, it’s only a stone’s throw away from the Worldsend Cave, which leads to one of the best payoffs in the entire game.
