Dragon’s Dogma 2 - All Maister Teaching Locations & Special Abilities

Dan Webb

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is packed to the rafters with classes. From the more traditional Archers, Warriors and Mages, to the more unique Tricksters, Mystic Spearhands and Magick Archers, it’s got enough to satiate any playstyle and any preference.

Not only does each class have a series of different moves to choose from as you level them up, each class has at least 1 special ability too (although the Thief class and Sorcerer class have 2), which you must learn from one of the game’s “Maisters.”

There are 12 Maister’s teachings to collect in all - you must get all of them to unlock the Master of the Maisters trophy - and as far as collecting them all goes, you’ve got your work cut out for you. That’s because Capcom has made it pretty tricky to get all 12 in one run, thanks to some missable checkpoints, as well as two of the Maisters wanting the same books!

Fear not though, we’ve got you covered. Below are all 12 Maister teachings, when and where to get them, and with relevant links to assist on more of the trickier ones.

  • Champion’s Fable (Warrior) (Arc of Might) - Speak to Beren in the Moonglow Garden (west of the Borderwatch Outpost) and finish his two side quests: “Claw Them Into Shape” and “Beren’s Final Lesson,” and then speak to him again to unlock this tome.
  • Legend’s Opus (Thief) (Blades of the Pyre) - Speak to Flaude in the Nameless Village Manor as part of the Nameless Village main quest - might have to speak to him a few times to trigger it.
  • Pilferer’s Handbook (Thief) (Formless Feint) - Speak to Srail in the Nameless Village Depths, as part of the Nameless Village main quest.
  • Hunter’s Secret (Archer) (Heavenly Shot) - Seek out Taliesin in Sacred Arbor. Complete “Gift of the Bow” and “A Trial of Archery,” and then speak to Taliesin in Sacred Arbor.
  • Soldier’s Code (Fighter) (Riotous Fury) - In order to trigger the quest to eventually unlock this ability from Lennart, you need to complete the “Seat of Sovran” and “Scaly Invaders,” quests, and then return to Melve to complete the “Readvent of Calamity” side quest. Finish that and then speak to Lennart afterwards. NOTE: However, if you’ve completed the main quest, “Feast of Deception,” you’ll be locked out of the “Readvent of Calamity” side quest, so be aware of this. That said, I managed to get it by getting his affinity to nearly max with gifts, so maybe try that too if you missed this quest.
  • Myrddin’s Chronicle (Sorcerer) (Maelstrom) - Complete the side quest “Sorcerer’s Appraisal” from Myrddin in Checkpoint Rest Town, and he’ll give you this tome. You need to collect 5 spellbooks and return them to him to complete this quest. Hit the link to see where all 5 are. However, to get this and next two, you should give Myrddin forgeries of the 5 books he requested.
  • Conjurer’s Jottings (Sorcerer) (Meteoron) - Complete the side quest “Spellbound” from Trysha in Eini’s Home, to the northwest of the Borderwatch Outpost. Then, speak to her afterwards to get this Maister tome. If she doesn’t give it you straight away, keep speaking to her and gifting items to her grandfather until she initiates an escort mission with you (you might need to camp to trigger it). Then, return to the cottage after and hopefully at that point, she’ll give you this tome.
  • Enchanter’s Almanac (Mage) (Celestial Paean) - Same as the aforementioned Meteron Maister ability. Complete the side quest “Spellbound” from Trysha in Eini's Home. Then, speak to Eini after to get the tome. Like Trysha, if she doesn’t give it to you straight away, keep speaking to her and gifting items to her husband until she initiates an escort mission. Then, return to the cottage again and she should give you this tome.
  • Theurgist’s Rite - (Trickster) (Dragon’s Delusion) - Head to the Reverant Shrine where Luz is, in the northeast of Battahl, and use the ladder at the side of the building to climb up to the roof. Luz’s physical form is there (at the front of the building). Approach her and she’ll speak to you automatically and give you her Maister teaching.
  • Paladin’s Enigmata - (Mystic Spearhand) (Wild Furie) - After meeting Sigurd for the first time during the Dragonsbreath Tower main quest, go and visit him again after that when he’s in Harve Village, and you’ll get this tome.
  • Spellbow’s Paradox (Magick Archer) (Martyr’s Bolt) - If you enter the Agamen Volcanic Island via Drabnir’s Grotto, you’ll come across Gautstafr on the main road who will need some assistance. Firstly, help him out with his request, and then go to his house (Windwalker’s House) and agree to escort him to the Geyser Hamlet in the Volcanic Island Camp (this is the side quest, “Put a Spring in Thy Step”). After you’ve finished it, Cliodhna will appear and give you this new ability (as well as the Magick Archer class).
  • Grandmaster’s Path (Warfarer) (Rearmament) - And finally, right next to where the aforementioned “Put a Spring in Thy Step” quest finishes is Lamond. He wants 3 Newt Liqueurs as part of “The Sotted Sage” side quest, and in return he’ll give you the Warfarer vocation and if you speak to him again, this ability tome. Not bad, eh?

And there you have it, all 12 Maister abilities for all 10 classes, allowing you to craft your ultimate vocation build.
