Dragon’s Dogma 2 - Where to find the motivated soldier for Claw Them Into Shape

Dan Webb

If you want to get your hands on the Warrior Maister teaching in Dragon’s Dogma 2, the Arc of Might, you’re going to need to seek out and help Beren - a Beastren who’s seen better days.

You’ll find Beren in the hills to the west of the Borderwatch Outpost near the Moonglow Garden. However, getting Beren to spawn can be one of the more random-based parts of this quest.

Next to the Moonglow Garden is a tent, Beren’s Tent, and every so often Beren will spawn there. Now, when he does is anybody's guess - we checked every 5 minutes while doing the Spellbound quest. The best way we found him to spawn, though, was to use the camp nearby (south of the stone bridge) and rest until morning, before heading back there to see whether he’s there.

When Beren eventually turns up he’ll want 2 things initially:

  • 3 swords
  • A highly motivated soldier

Now, the 3 swords aspect is fairly simple: just head to the Borderwatch Outpost and head to the Borderwatch Commissary inside. When there, buy 3 Trusty Swords for 850 gold each - any swords you’ve looted also count here, but are probably more valuable than these cheap swords - and then return them to Beren.

Finding a “motivated soldier” is not as straightforward, however… especially when the game world is absolutely massive.

To find a highly motivated soldier, head to the west side of the Merchant Quarter in Vernworth. Just south of Clovis’s Barberie and the West Vernworth Oxcart Station is a series of archways - with the aqueduct being overhead. There, we stumbled into Humphrey, who is looking for an instructor to teach him the ways of battle.

After hearing his spiel, you’ll be able to say “Tell him about Beren.” At that point, the young lad will head over to meet Beren at the Moonglow Garden. Once you’ve done that, head back to the Moonglow Garden yourself, to speak to Beren.

Beren, wanting to prove himself, will challenge you to a duel - first one out the circle loses. Now, regardless of the outcome of that duel, you’ll have to rush to the rescue of a troop of soldiers, and you’ll learn of Beren’s fate - he gets fired, basically.

Now, if you want the Arc of Might, rest up at the camp nearby to advance the clock. Then, head back to the Moonglow Garden (which is nearby), and complete the Beren’s Final Mission side quest - which is to take down a Cyclops.

After you’ve done this, you’ll have to rest a day before you have one final goodbye with Beren, where not only will the quest come to a close, but you’ll also get his Lifetaker sword as well.

Depending on how lucky you are, depends on your next step. If you’re lucky like us, the quest will come to a close and Beren will instantly give you the Champion’s Fable tome, which teaches you the Arc of Might.

If you’re unlucky, however, you’ll have to visit Beren south of the large fortress gate in Checkpoint Town West (literally just on the south side of the gate, over the road from the South Border Checkpoint Oxcart Station).

And there you have it, folks… Now you can fully realise the potential of the Warrior vocation, thanks to the Arc of Might.
