More often than not in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll come across an item that you have no idea what it does. Whether you’re talking about the Ancient Battleground Key or the Makeshift Vault Key, it’s never exactly clear what they open.
While the Ancient Battleground Key opens a nearby door, in the case of the Makeshift Vault Key, the door it opens is on the other side of the map, but it’s totally worth checking out.
So, if you’re looking for the Makeshift Vault Key, what it opens, or want to discover what’s inside Vermund’s Vault, you’ve come to the right place.
To get your hands on the Makeshift Vault Key, you want to head to the Ancient Battleground to the north of the Checkpoint Rest Town. The key itself can be found in the northwestern room (on the 2F) of the large structure to the north of the Ancient Battleground. The best way to get here is to assist Oskar, who can be found on the eastern path leading into the Ancient Battleground, and will want protection to get into the large fortress at the top of the hill.
Agreeing to help Oskar will initiate the side quest, “Tolled to Rest,” which will end in the exact room where the Makeshift Vault Key can be found inside a chest (as well as a spellbook, Nation’s Death Knell). Not only that, but you’ll also get 9,000 gold and the Ancient Battleground Key, which will open a room nearby.
How to get into the Vernworth Castle Vault
Now you have the key, what does the Makeshift Vault Key open? Well, “Vermund’s vault” refers to the Vernworth Castle Vault, which can be found in the B1F of Vernworth Castle.
To get to the Vernworth Castle Vault, head into the castle by the right-hand door (west-side, near the Guardhouse) and then head through that room and take a right. Head straight ahead until you see some stairs and then take another right and follow that path to the end.
When you get to the end Azorka will be guarding the vault. Simply wait until she’s finished her shift and leaves her post, and then head into the vault via the vault door - incidentally, Disa will also come to check the vault out every day just as the sun sets, so you can get into the vault without the key, as long as you avoid detection. If you do get detected, you’ll get thrown in gaol (jail), so be careful - not that getting arrested is the end of the world, as it’s easy to escape.
Once Azorka has left her post briefly - you could be waiting a while, so get comfy while you wait - head into the vault and get your hands on what’s inside.
What’s in the Vernworth Castle Vault?
Inside the Vernworth Castle Vault is a ton of interesting items, including:
20,000 gold.
A Decayed Medusa Head (not sure what good this is).
Wyrmhunter’s Cloak, which has 168 defence, 307 magick defence, 70 knockdown resistance, as well as some elemental and debilitation resistances.
