Dragon’s Dogma 2 - Best way to farm gold

Dragon’s Dogma 2 - Best way to farm gold

Dan Webb

Considering that a lot of the best armour and weapons in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are sold by vendors, having access to a ton of gold is vitally essential. Like most action-RPGs, gold makes the world go round in DD2. You use it to buy Ferrystones, buy weapons and armour, to rest to refill your Loss Gauge, and so much more. So, having a few hundred thousand in reserve is never anything to turn your nose up at.

Now, usually in guides like this, the focus on making gold fast is usually based on some kind of exploit or glitch. This one, however, is using the mechanics of the game to the best of our ability.

So, first a little background about this method.

In the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 there are 2 regions: Vermund, a luscious forest type biome; and Battahl, a brutal and unforgiving desert region. Each region has its own flora and fauna. Vermund has apples, strawberries and grapes; while Battahl has figs and quinces. Turns out that the demand for rare fruits in one region actually drives the prices of them up. So, apples and grapes sell for fantastic money in Battahl (compared to Vermund), while figs and quinces sell for a pretty penny in Vermund. So, for this strategy, we’re going to lean into that and take full advantage of it.

This method will net you around 60,000 gold for a good 20-30 minutes “work,” meaning you’ve always got a solution to get more money should you ever run out.

How much can you make?

Right, let’s run you through the rough strategy:

  • You’re basically going to buy 99 apples and grapes from Runne’s Apothecary in Melve, which will go into storage at Tristain’s Inn over the road. That’s what makes Melve so good for this strategy, because there’s a shop (to buy the fruit), a bench to advance time, and an inn (to store the fruit), and all within 10 feet of one another.
  • Then, either fast-travel using a Ferrystone, or using the Oxcart system, travel all the way to the Checkpoint Rest Town.
  • Ripen all the fruit - this will take the price from 170 gold per fruit, to 350.
  • And then sell to Georg, a seller who is standing outside, to the south, of The Sword & Staff inn.

So, that equates to:

Cost:

  • Cost of fruit: 4,950 x 2 = 9,900
  • Travel costs: 1,000 gold (3 Oxcart trips from Melve to Checkpoint Rest Town and back)
  • Total cost: 10,900

Money made:

  • 99 x Ripened Apples = 34,650
  • 99 x Ripened Grapes = 34,650

Profit:

  • 58,400

Now, that could change depending on your strategy. Instead of taking the Oxcart, you can use Ferrystones and Portcrystals. That will save you time, but will cost you 20,000 per trip. So, maybe not worth it.

Also, if you raise the affinity of Runne, who runs the apothecary, you can get a 10% discount (at max affinity, or a 5% discount at around 50% affinity). So, that’s a saving of 990 gold per run too.

Before we run you through a step-by-step strategy, just make sure you don’t have a Logistician in your party, as they use any materials you have to make items, which is not ideal here.

The best farming strategy

So, first things first, if you are using Portcrystals and Ferrystones, then make sure you have them in place. Then, you need to do the following:

  • Head to Runne’s Apothecary in Melve and buy 5 apples and 5 grapes.
  • Then, head to Tristan’s Inn and deposit the fruit.
  • Next up, sit on the bench outside and “Doze off” 4 times (6 hours per doze, 24 hours total), meaning Runne’s stock is full again.
  • And then rinse and repeat the first 3 steps until you have 99 of each in storage.

Now, instead of depositing them every round, you can also do it every 20 apples & grapes, or so, but bear in mind that the first batch will ripen in that time. If you’re anything like me, and want to play it safe, then just deposit after every purchase. After all, a Ripened Apple is 350 gold, while a Rotten Apple is only 1 gold. Yikes.

  • Then, when you have all the fruit in storage, make your way to the Checkpoint Rest Town. It took about 5 minutes for us (and cost 500 gold) to get from Melve to Checkpoint Rest Town via Vernworth (and we were even ambushed on each leg of the trip too).
  • When there, rest at the inn (this isn’t necessary, but it’s nice to have a back-up save if it all goes spectacularly wrong) and then get out all the fruit.
  • Head downstairs to the bench near Georg, and then rest for 3 days (12 “Doze offs”). Then, most, if not all, of your fruit should be ripened.
  • And then finally, speak to Georg and sell him the ripened fruit. If Georg isn’t there, make sure you sleep until daytime, and if he’s still not there, do a lap of the area, and he’ll likely spawn in when you do.

And there you have it, folks, you should now be 60,000 gold richer. While you might get more per item selling Ripened Quince (450) and Ripened Fig (550) in Vernworth, it’s tricky to find the perfect setup in terms of proximity: storage, bench and shop being so close.

That is why this method is by far the best in the game.

On one last note, make sure you’re selling your jewels in the relevant places too, to get more bang for your buck. So, sell Jaspers in Battahl; Onyx in Vermund; and Tiger Eyes in Sacred Arbor (just make sure you have an Elvish speaker with you!).

And there you have it, folks, a really easy way to make a lot of money super fast. Now head out there and buy that 200,000 gold house in the Noble Quarter in Vernworth.
