Dragon’s Dogma 2 - Where is the On the Transference of Souls 1 book?

Dan Webb

Lost throughout Vermund and Battahl in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are a couple of incredibly powerful and inextricably linked spellbooks. So powerful that they must be kept separate. Yes, ladies and gents, we are of course talking about the “On the Transference of Souls” spellbooks.

If you manage to get your hands on one of the Transference of Souls books (specifically the second one), the description reads, “The second of a pair of grimoires brimming with ancient magick. When reunited with its twin, it grants a forgotten spell.”

So, then, if you’re looking to get your hands on the On the Transference of Souls 1 book, or even what to know where to find the location of the Transference of Souls 2 book… Heck, you might even want to know whether the “forgotten spell” is worth seeking out. Well, you’ve come to the right place.

On the Transference of Souls 2 Location

Whether you stumble upon the Transference of Souls 2 books is completely luck-based in truth. There’s a very good chance that you could completely miss it, because where you get it is more of an optional area.

To buy the Transference of Souls 2 book, you need to head to Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in the Checkpoint Rest Town - to the far west of Vernworth in Vermund. If you head to the vendor found in the backstreets, you can purchase the first half of the puzzle for just 2,000 gold.

Once you have, you’re now going to want to find the Transference of Souls 1 book. Before we go searching for it, however, we’d recommend making a forgery of the Transference of Souls 2 book with Ibrahim - which will set you back 2,400 gold - which will create the On the Transit of Souls 2 book.

On the Transference of Souls 1 Location

Like the first book, the Transference of Souls 1 book is another book that’s incredibly easy to miss, unless you’re searching every nook and cranny.

You’ll find the Transference of Souls 1 spellbook in Bakbattahl, at a place called Isaac’s Wares - Isaac’s Wares can be found round the corner (to the west) from The Wanderer’s Haven Inn in Bakbattahl.

Now, Isaac himself doesn’t actually sell the Transference of Souls 1 book. But, if you do buy something, he’ll start talking about a book he has - and thus starting the “Short-Sighted Ambition” side quest.

In the Short-Sighted Ambition side quest, Isaac will request a number of things. Firstly, he’ll want a Ripened Quince. Quinces are native to Battahl’s deserts - look for a bush with yellow fruits, and then pick it, and wait a few days for it to turn to its Ripened state. Once you have that, head back to Isaac and give it to him.

After a few days have passed, Isaac will ask you to bring him the Transference of Souls 2 book, so he can access the forgotten spell. Yes, this is why we told you to make a forgery.

Giving the real book to Isaac will not only make him blind but will also kill his family (which is what tragically happens if you give him the On the Transference of Souls 2 book). However, if you give him the forgery, you will not only get 16,000 gold, but it will also allow you to buy the On the Transference of Souls 1 book from him when he returns to his shop (for 2,000 gold).

So, win-win!

On the Transference of Souls’ Forgotten Spell

In order to create the forgotten spell book, you need to combine the On the Transference of Souls 1 book with your On the Transference of Souls 2 spellbook - as you would craft other items. That will create the On the Transference of Souls book, which is a one-time only spellbook that casts Celestial Paean.

What does Celestial Paean do? Well, it’s basically Dragon’s Dogma 2’s version of haste, which increases your party’s recovery speed and speed in general (while also decreasing damage).

Celestial Paean is a special ability that mages can use in general if they complete Eini’s Maister objectives and receive the special ability tome, but at least, for now, you can use it in a bind.
