Fairly early on in your time in Vernworth in Dragon’s Dogma 2, your good friend, Captain Brant, will mention that someone seems to be skulking about in the shadows, watching your every step. Brant suggests that you seek out this rotten scoundrel and get to the bottom of why he’s watching you. Are they friend or foe?
After having this conversation with Brant, you’ll gain the quest, “The Arisen’s Shadow” in your quest log, but the issue is, the quest has no destination. No one to start, no hint at when or where. So, as it is with more than a few quests in Dragon’s Dogma 2, it’s up to you to work this one out for yourself. Or, let us assist you.
Now, there’s no specific time of day that this stalker seems to be active, or even a hint as to where. In fact, while we confronted them in the daytime, others have said he appears in the nighttime too. In terms of where, we came across the Arisen’s shadow himself, while skulking around in the shadowy streets, just to the northeast of our dwelling in Vernworth (the one we purchased from Mildred).
The best bit of advice we can give for this quest in particular, though, is to keep an ear open. The hooded individual will crop up in and around Vernworth at all different times of the day, but we noticed him when we heard someone say, “You!”. As a result, it’s handy to have subtitles on for this encounter alone.
When you hear someone say “You!”, scan the immediate environment and look for someone in black clothing, with their hood up. As soon as you spot this hooded individual, start chasing after him, and as soon as you’re close enough, hit the “Grab” button and your main character will tackle them to the ground.
What happens then is entirely up to you, but you will learn that Bermudo is a Battahl spy. You can set Bermudo free, bribe them into giving you gold, or just kick their ass. Whatever happens is up to you.
If, however, they do get thrown in jail, you’ll have to return to Brant at The Stardrop Inn at night a few days later and ask about the “captured agent” to draw to a conclusion this quest - and also get a nice tasty 4,000 gold reward.
At least you won’t be stalked around the clock now, though, eh?
