Dragon’s Dogma 2 - How to complete A Beggar’s Tale

Dan Webb

“Gather ‘round, gather ‘round! Treat your ears to a tale by a master storyteller!” chirps Arthur, the local beggar, who can be found by the fountain in Vernworth’s heartbeat, the Merchant Quarter, in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

But there’s something quite off about Arthur, which is why Benton, who also frequents the Vernworth marketplace, wants you to look into it. Ladies and gents, I present to you, “A Beggar’s Tale.”

The trick to this quest is patience, but the actual truth is, you need a lot of patience to get through this… unless, of course, you follow our handy guide.

So, if you get to the marketplace in the daytime, you’ll find Arthur in front of the fountain, as he always is. This is Arthur’s main spot for the day, and depending on how early you got there, you could be waiting around as long as 10 minutes before he actually moves.

In the early evening, Arthur will move from his spot and walk all the way down to Walter’s Tavern, in the northern region of the Slums district. A few in-game hours later, Arthur will move from the bar and say, “The hour’s gone late, Hilda’s gonna have my hide.”

Arthur will then make his way back into the city when it starts to get dark, to the eastern side of the Common Quarter, and enter into a house and lock himself inside - you’ll find this house just to the east of yours/Mildred’s house. You’ll know it’s the right place as he’ll say, “Door’s locked, that should do it.”

After a short while, Arthur will leave the property, but leave the door unlocked, making it prime snooping time. Inside, along the far wall, you’ll find some “Beggar’s Clothes.” Grab these.

Incidentally, it’s worth noting that you don’t have to wait all day by the fountain or even follow him to the tavern, you can just wait by the door where he goes to leave the “Beggar’s Clothes” and wait for him to get there, and then subsequently leave.

Your next point of call is to follow Arthur to his home, where Hilda will be waiting for him outside. And this is where you get two choices: give Hilda the clothes; or give them to Celina, (his so-called second wife at the tavern).

In short, you get to choose how to destroy the con-artist’s life, and you’ll get 3 Onyx if you decide to grass him up to Hilda, which seems like the obvious choice.
