Shadow of the Erdtree makes some changes to the Elden Ring formula. One of the biggest changes is the way that it deals with levelling and how powerful your character is. Basically, you don’t really need to think about levelling in the traditional way while you are in the Realm of Shadow. Here, you will find out pretty quickly that you are going to get battered fairly swiftly, no matter how high a level you were in the main game.
In the Realm of Shadow, it’s all about something called Scadutree Fragments. These collectibles are strewn across the new map, and you need to hoover them up, go to a Site of Grace, and then select the option there that says “Shadow Realm Blessing.” Then, you will have the option to select Scadutree Blessing and Revered Spirit Ash Blessing. We’ll get into Revered Spirit Ash Blessings later. For now, here all the Scadutree Fragment locations in the starting area Gravesite Plain. They are often to be found at Sites of Grace, too, making things a little easier.
This one is nearest to your starting point, and if you want to make a beeline there, get ready to creep in and out. You find these two Scadutree fragments on an alter in the church, but you have to keep an eye out for the fella with a big hammer who enjoys lurking in the church ruin, because he has a big problem with you.
Three-Path Cross
You will find this one next to Redmane Freyja, a pretty cool NPC who helps you out in battle. (Bear her in mind when you get to fighting the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, a damn hard boss you may want Freyja’s help with.)
Pillar Path Cross
This one is really easy, as it’s right near the Pillar Path Site of Grace, and you can see one Miquella’s Cross right nearby – visible from a while away, handy!
Main Gate Cross
As you can to the Belurat Tower Settlement, which is kind of the first place you should head to, in terms of the story-critical path, you will reach the Main Gate Cross. You will find a Scadutree Fragment here.
Belurat Tower Settlement
This one is slightly sneaky, but, as you make your way through the Belurat Tower Settlement, you will be met by a couple of gigantic scorpions – and also an annoying number of miniature scorpions. You will run into these cheery chaps at the base of the tower, and you will notice, just over a pile of rubble to the right, a doorway. Go through here, and you will find a Scadutree Fragment inside.
Castle Front
This Scadutree Fragment is located right at the crossroads outside Castle Ensis. You will find it near a large statue a short way from the Castle Front Site of Grace. Be careful when trying to nab this one, as there are some nasty enemies lurking near here.
Castle Ensis Checkpoint
The last fragment in the Gravesite Plain, this one is found near the Castle Ensis Checkpoint Site of Grace, and you can see Miquella’s Cross nearby, which you will notice as you’re coming up the stairs – and battling (or sneaking by) an enemy with a big mace.
