Shadow of the Erdtree makes some changes to the Elden Ring formula. One of the biggest changes is the way that it deals with levelling and how powerful your character is. Basically, you don’t really need to think about levelling in the traditional way while you are in the Realm of Shadow. Here, you will find out pretty quickly that you are going to get battered fairly swiftly, no matter how high a level you were in the main game.
In the Realm of Shadow, it’s all about something called Scadutree Fragments. These collectibles are strewn across the new map, and you need to hoover them up, go to a Site of Grace, and then select the option there that says “Shadow Realm Blessing.” Then, you will have the option to select Scadutree Blessing and Revered Spirit Ash Blessing. We’ll get into Revered Spirit Ash Blessings later. For now, here all the Scadutree Fragment locations in the starting area Scadu. They are often to be found at Sites of Grace, too, making things a little easier.
This is one is fairly easy to spot, and if you have decided to make your way to Scadu Altus a little ahead of time then this will be the first Scadutree Fragment that you find in this area. It’s right near the Site of Grace, and the Miquella’s Cross is nice and visible from a distance.
Highroad Cross
This may be the first Scaudtree Fragment that you find in Scadu Altus, if you have gone through Castle Ensis the normal way and beaten the boss – rather then deciding to sneak round. Either way, it’s nice and visible and right near the Site of Grace. Lovely.
Enemy Camp Near Moorth Ruins
Now, this one is just a little bit tricky. If you’re just concentrating on levelling yourself up and getting stronger, then you’re going to want to do what I did: get on Torrent and race through this enemy camp – you’ll find the fragment on a statue in the middle of the camp. Then hightail it out of there!
Above Moorth Ruins
This is an easy one. There is a statue just to the north of the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace, stood just outside the entrance to a tunnel. You will find this fragment at the base of the statue.
Shadow Keep Camp
You’ll want to stay on Torrent for this one, because not only are there a bunch of enemies lurking around here but there is also a Furnace Golem ready to rumble just up the hill – and he will aggro and come and ruin everyone’s day. Nip in, leap over the dry stone wall to the right, and you will find this Fragment on the statue over the wall.
Church of the Crusade
This Scadutree Fragment is located in a ruin, called Church of the Crusade. You won’t want to linger too long near this one, though, because you’re going to get invaded by Fire Knight Queelign, a tough opponent indeed. You can dodge her blows, pick up the Fragment, and then run out of there, if you don’t fancy a fight.
Scaduview Cross
This one isn’t too difficult. You will find the fragment near Miquella’s Cross right on the cliff’s Edge. Go south from Moorth Ruins, and when you get to the Fort of Reprimand, instead of going through the tunnel, go east along the along the cliff until you get to a spirit spring; activate it and use it to get up to the Scaduview Cross.
Shadow Keep, after Golden Hippopotamus
This pair of Scadutree Fragments is dropped by the Golden Hippopotamus boss, so unfortunately there is some extra challenge to these two fragments. However, check out our guide on How to easily beat the Golden Hippopotamus to make your life a lot smoother.
Shadow Keep, Submerged statue
As you make your way through the Curch District of the Shadow Keep, you will have to platform your way carefully through a flooded district. You will find this fragment on the hand of a submerged statue, which you can jump on as long as you’re careful.
Shadow Keep, Storehouse Fourth Floor
As you make your way up the Shadow Keep, toward the boss fight with Messmer the Impaler, you will find this Scadutree Fragment right near the Storehouse Fourth Floor Site of Grace.
Shadow Keep, before Messmer's Dark Chamber
You can’t miss this one. It’s at the bottom of the staircase that leads up the boss arena for Messmer the Impaler. It’s near the Dark Chamber Entrance Site of Grace.
Ruins of Unte, bottom of the waterfall
This one is at the bottom of the waterfall, near the Ruins of Unte. The closest Site of Grace is the Recluses’ River Upstream. You need to make your downriver, climbing down the cliffs, and then double back, going back upriver to the waterfall. You will then find this fragment in a stone coffin.
Recluses' River Downstream, Hippos (x2)
Near the Recluses’ River Downstream Site of Grace, you can make your way downriver to a wetlands area, and here you will find two hippos. Both of them are carrying a Scadutree Fragments. Kill them both to get both fragments. Their attacks are the same as the Golden Hippopotamus boss.
