Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – Should you devour the draconic essence?

The Dragon Communion Priestess is one of many NPCs in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. You will find her on a particular peak in the southern part of the map, and she will offer you a choice: do you want to devour the draconic essence or not? This is classic FromSoftware – one of those obscure and adventurous choices offered up, without any context and with possibly dire implications. Let’s dive in!

Should you devour the draconic essence in Shadow of the Erdtree?

First things first, you will find the Dragon Communion Priestess at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion, which is located here on the map:

She is standing near the enormous corpse of a dragon, right next to the bowl-shaped thing with the red smoke rising our of it. If you talk to her, she comes out with some nutty stuff, mostly about dragons.

After she’s finished her dragon chat, she will offer you a choice: “Devour Draconic Essence” and “Do not partake.”

So, here’s the thing. You may as well devour the damn thing. What you get in return is the Ancient Dragon’s Blessing. You can consume this item, for 15 FP, and it will boost your damage negation of all types for a limited time. This is pretty damn good, when you’re facing some of the tougher bosses.

The good news is, you can come back to the priestess an infinite number of times, and she will give you another Ancient Dragon’s Blessing each time.
