Introduction:
In Still Wakes the Deep, you play as North Sea oil rig worker Caz McLeary, having the worst day on the job ever. Not only is he trapped on the Beira D rig, while a storm rages outside, but there's also a bizarre alien thing on the loose and it's desperate to entangle you in its groping tentacles.

Still Wakes the Deep is a first-person survival horror, and a linear story-driven one at that. You should have little problem unlocking most of the achievements with little effort during a single playthrough, but, using a guide, you can easily do it all in a single run. If you'd rather steer clear of spoilers, we'd suggest one playthrough to enjoy and soak up the story, and a second to mop up anything you might have missed. But, ultimately, it's up to you. If you're here and reading this, you probably want a guide.

Conclusion:
This is a pretty straightforward list that's a nice, easy completion at around five or six hours. Still Wakes the Deep is also a cracking single-player narrative experience, so you're going to enjoy this either way.

There are 37 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Drowned inside the rig

    *MISSABLE*

There are plenty of places for Caz to drown within the confines of the Beira D. Simply find a body of water (any will do, as long as it's deep enough to drown in) inside the rig, then leave Caz to his horrific fate, spluttering with a lungful of seawater. Nasty. You might even drown without trying, especially during those bits where you have to pull yourself forward.

  • Died from falling into the sea five times in different places

    *MISSABLE*

Each time you enter the exterior of the Beira D platform, find a place to throw yourself off the edge, into the deep, roiling briny below. Do this in five different areas (you can't just chuck yourself off in the same place five times), and you'll earn this suicidal accolade.

  • Listen to every optional phonecall

    *MISSABLE*

Each time you enter a room, scan around for a phone on the wall. They all look identical; green with light-up numbers. If the phone is ringing, pick it up and listen to the chat that ensues. As long as you keep an ear out for ringing phones and keep an eye out, you should unlock this without any issues. Even if you don't hear a phone ringing, it's still worth having a look around and attempting to interact with any phones you find, just to be on the safe side. Also, be wary that sometimes a phone will start ringing as you're leaving a room, so it's often a good idea to step out, then go back to double-check you're not missing an incoming call.
  • Talk to everyone in the Intro

    *MISSABLE*

During the opening moments of the game, after you've left Caz's cabin, you'll be instructed to head to the Canteen. There are several groups of workers sitting having a meal and a chat at some of the tables; simply go over and talk to each of them before you go and talk to Roy at the Canteen counter. If you go straight to Roy, you'll miss this and have to reload or start again.

There are three tables to visit in total - two groups, and the misanthrophic Addair, who's sat on his own. You can't interact with the group next to Addair, so don't worry about them.

You'll then make your way our onto the deck, where you'll also need to stop and talk to all of the engineers working outside on your way to meet Rennick.

Visit every enterable cabin in the game

    *MISSABLE*

I actually managed to do this without trying. Just be sure to enter every cabin you come across (taking your time at the beginning to explore and visit the cabins before heading to the Canteen), and by the time you reach the flooded cabins towards the end of the game, this should unlock. Make sure you swim between them via the vents, or go up and over through the ceiling shafts. Easier said than done, as you're being pursued during this bit, but you should be fine to explore each cabin without being hassled. There are eleven cabins to visit in total.

  • Jetsam

Throw a throwable into the sea

    *MISSABLE*

Another easy one. Throwable items can be found all over the Beira D. When you're outside, look around the floor or on surfaces for things like spanners, flasks, safety helmets, hammers, and the like. Once you've found something, pick it up, then wang it into the sea. Well done!

  • Completed the game in Scottish Gaelic

    *MISSABLE*

Before starting the game, head into the options menu and tab over to the 'Accessibility' settings. Switch the language to the 'Gaidhlig (An Rioghachd Aonaichte)' option. Now, start the game and complete it with this language setting switched on. The spoken language is still English, so don't worry about not being able to understand what's going on.

To start the game, go to 'Toiseach Geama Ur'.

Note: Changing the language after you start the game will not unlock this achievement.
  • Completed the game without sprinting for more than 10 total minutes

    *MISSABLE*

Throughout the game, I felt as if I was sprinting almost the entire time, but still managed to unlock this. The best approach here, to be sure you earn this, is to only sprint when it's absolutely necessary. If you're not being chased or playing out a tense set-piece that requires Caz break into a run, there's no reason to sprint. That said, you can also bag this without being overly cautious. Just keep this in mind, and you ought to be fine with this one.

Secret achievements

  • Made it down to the Canteen and talked with Roy

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

You'll need to talk to Roy in the Canteen in order to progress, so there's no way you're missing this.

  • Survived the Event

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

This unlocks once the proverbial poop hits the fan during the story. You'll know it when you see it.

  • Escaped from Engineering

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

After a rather intense first brush with danger, you'll manage to make it out of Engineering, earning this in the process.

  • Launched the Lifeboat

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Hooray! You've launched the lifeboat and escaped. Well done! The end. And Caz lives happily ever after. Just kidding. This another unmissable story one.

  • Got back to Roy in the Canteen

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Expect some more tension and running in the lead up to this. You'll find Roy shacked up in the Canteen's larder, a little worse for wear.

  • Watched the Helicopter Crash

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Did you really think you'd be getting off the oil rig so easily? After you've watched this spectacular scene, you'll unlock this as a reward.

  • Escaped from Rennick

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Talk about the boss from hell. Once you've managed to outrun Rennick, you'll earn this.

  • Restarted the Generator

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Once you've fired up the 'jennies' for Finlay, this will unlock. Also, there are some lights on now, so that's good.

  • Completed Engineering

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Having finished up your business in the rig's Engineering department, you can leave it behind for a bit, unlocking this while you're at it.

  • Escaped from the Pontoons

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Another escape, another achievement chalked off the list. Nice one.

  • Relit the Flare

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

After a precarious venture (another one), Caz will relight the rig's fire, and you'll bag this.

  • Escaped from Flooded Engineering

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

It's not only flooded in here, it's really claustrophobic, too. You'd do well to get out fast and unlock another unmissable achievement.

  • Made it to the roof of Accommodation

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

This is the bit where you go chasing after Roy. Once you've reached him, this will unlock.

  • Rebalanced the Beira D

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Caz will be tasked with activating tension cables in the legs of the Beira D to raise the water level and balance the platform. Once you've finished the objective, you'll earn this.

  • Defeated Rennick

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Another tense sequence ensues where you'll be swimming for your life. The upshot is, that once you've escaped, Rennick will no longer be a problem.

  • Entered the Derrick

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Upon entering the Derrick this will unlock. The clue's in the description. You're nearing the end of the game now. Next stop: credits.

  • Completed the game

    Story-related. Cannot be missed.

Congratulations! You've survived the horror and completed Still Wakes the Deep! Have an achievement!

  • Spot a monster while leaning

To lean, you press lb.png to lean left and rb.png to lean right. As soon as you see a monster (the first one is in the laundry room), lean out of cover and you'll nab this.
  • Put out a fire with an extinguisher

You can't really miss this as you'll need to extinguish fires blocking your path. Pick up an extinguisher and liberally spray it all over the place until there's nothing but glowing embers left.

  • Die in all possible ways

    *MISSABLE*

There are numerous ways to die; falling, electrocution, drowning, jumping into the sea off the platform, being caught by a monster, fire, etc... You'll likely have to go out of your way to get this, as the object of the game is to not die. Good luck!

  • Listen to the whole Shipping Forecast

    *MISSABLE*

Occasionally, you'll find a radio broadcasting the Shipping Forecast. Instinctively, you'll probably move on and not listen in. Don't do that. Listen to the whole thing. There's an achievement in it for you. It should unlock after the announcer says "this is the end of the broadcast".

  • Sprint in all movement modes and traversals

    *MISSABLE*

This seems unusually random. I unexpectedly unlocked this quite near to the end, while sprinting over uneven terrain. If you sprint most of the time, you're far more likely to earn this. The best advice to give is to hold down the sprint button when climbing ladders, swimming, shimmying over beams and ledges, doing monkey bar traversal, vaulting... everything. I managed to unlock this and Walking Simulator (75G) for sprinting for less than 10 minutes during a single playthrough, so if you see yellow paint (marking a traversal point), sprint! Run, Caz! Run!

  • Find every reachable dead crew member

    *MISSABLE*

There are numerous dead crew members you'll find during the course of Still Wakes the Deep's story, most of which you can interact with, prompting Caz to offer a line about their grisly fate. Keeping your eyes peeled and on the look out for all of the ill-fated crew members isn't too difficult – most are on the critical path or close by, so as long as you're vigilant and sticking your nose into every corner, you'll unlock this fairly easily.
  • Spend too much time in the shower room

    *MISSABLE*

Near the beginning of the game, once you enter the Shower Room, you'll be greeted by the sight of a man's bare buttocks. Feel free to stare at the wet arse cheeks for a while (about 30 seconds or so should suffice), and you can enjoy an achievement shortly after.

  • Used all electrical interaction types on the Beira D

    *MISSABLE*

Turning on TVs, radios, light switches, pulling transformer levers, pumps, elevators, flicking circuit switches, and changing fuses with Caz's screwdriver will all count towards this. Just make sure to interact with every electrical device you come across until this unlocks.

In Caz's cabin at the very start of the game, there's a radio and light switch, which should help give you a nice head start.
  • Die in all electrical hazards on the Beira D

    *MISSABLE*

If you're going for the Finlay Destination (75G) achievement, this will help towards that. Electrical hazards include loose cables dangling in water... Actually, it's mostly electric and water. Famously, they don't mix. Just throw yourself at anything crackly and dangerous, and you'll get this for your troubles.

  • Find Roy's Spoon after the sinking

    *MISSABLE*

During the escape from Trots towards the latter part of the game, after you've dropped out of the ventilation shaft and into the cabins, look for Roy's spoon on a tartan armchair facing a desk, by the bed. Once you've spotted it, this should unlock.
  • Hit a monster with a throwable

    *MISSABLE*

You can do this to the first monster you find in the laundry room. Pick up any of the items off the floor, and chuck it at the monster, making sure to hit it. If you do miss this, you can do it to any of the other monsters. Addair is a decent bet; chuck something right into his stupid racist face.

  • Pick up and throw 50 different throwables

    *MISSABLE*

Any of the throwable items strewn across the Beira D can be picked up and thrown. It might not occur to you to throw fifty of them, though, so you'll have to go out of your way to find stuff, pick it up, and chuck it. There are way more than fifty items to pick up and throw, so just pick up and hurl whatever you can get your mitts on until this unlocks.
