If you happen to find yourself in the Slums of Vernworth in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you may come across Kendrick, outside The Gracious Hand - to the southeast of the district. Kendrick will be looking for donations for the church, and will ask for your assistance.
If you give Kendrick 100 gold and some food, he’ll mention that young Malcom is missing, and will ask for your assistance in finding him. Now, while “The Heel of History” quest that starts as a result of this interaction might be a side quest, it’s actually pretty important in the grand scheme of things, because completing it is necessary in finding a “place with plenty of tomes” in The Caged Magistrate, one of the game’s main missions.
In order to get access to the obvious area where Malcolm has gone - you can’t interact with the rubble blocking the tower to the west of The Gracious Hand - you need to speak to three people.
Finding all three people is actually the trickiest part of this side quest.
The three people and where you need to find them are as follows:

Harvey
Aimee
Once you’ve spoken to all three people, you can return to Kendrick, and after a brief exchange, the previously blocked entrance to The Gracious Hand’s Vaults will be open, allowing you to venture in and save Malcolm.
Not the most taxing of side quests, but finding the individuals who could shed light on the location of Malcolm can prove to be a tad annoying.
And as we said, once you find Malcolm and finish “The Heel of History” side quest, not only will you get 3,000 gold and a Panacea, but you’ll also now be able to finish The Caged Magistrate main quest.
