Alan Wake 2 - How to get to the Projection Booth in Poet's Cinema

In Alan Wake 2, at the end of Alan Wake's eighth chapter, "Initiation 8: Zane's Film," you'll be tasked with making your way to the Projection Booth, which is the key to getting to the next ‘Murder Site.’

In this chapter alone, no doubt, you'll have come across many, many obstacles. Not so much when it comes to difficulty spikes, but the game's "puzzles." Whether you're talking about getting out of Poet's Cinema’s Lobby or even escaping Poet's Cinema's Backlot, both seem simple, but require a very specific way of lateral thinking.

The end of Zane's Film is the exact same.

Once you've got “The Grandmaster” Plot Element from the Poet’s Cinema roof, you'll now be able to make your way to the Projection Booth, and finally, to the Murder Site.

It's at this point you'll have to backtrack through the whole level, and make your way back into the Theater Hall. You do that by descending from the roof, going across the Backlot to the north, up the stairs, across the catwalk and out into the Lobby area. From there, head down the stairs and it's a straight shot into the Theater Hall.

Now, if you're anything like us, and looked at the map, you might assume that the way through to the Projection Booth is by changing the Plot Element and using the door that would appear in the little foyer at the top of the stairs - right at the back of the Theater Hall. You know, near the actual Protection Booth. Unfortunately not. That's the exit.

What you need to do, once the Grandmaster Plot Element is active, is head to the stage and go through the newly appeared door at the back of the stage. Something that is incredibly easy to miss.

Once you've gone through that door, you'll be in the film reel maze.

 

How to get through the film reel maze in Poet’s Cinema

The film reel maze is the preceding area before you make it to the Projection Booth in “Initiation 8: Zane’s Film,” which doubles up as the Murder Site. The maze itself is rather confusing, and it can be fairly easy to lose track of where you’re going. Fear not, folks, let us assist.

The First Loop

  • The first few instances of the loop are fairly straightforward. Head forward through the door, into a much larger room. Then head to the exit, which is in the far left corner.
  • In the next room you can only go right. Doing that will reset the loop for the first time.

 

The Second Loop

  • Now, in the second loop, do exactly the same thing, but this time, in the small red-tinted room at the end, when you try the door on the right, it won’t open, but a door will now spawn behind you. Go through it.

 

The Third Loop

  • In the next loop, when you get into the main room, you’ll see someone strapped into the chair - it’s Casey. When you head down the stairs though, he’ll disappear.
  • Now, in order to spawn the next door, you’ll need to do a lap of the room. So, head in, go anti-clockwise around the room, and as you go round the film reel shelf at the end and as you turn to the left, you should see a new door straight ahead.
  • When you’ve watched it, turn around and go straight ahead, to the back right corner of the room, where a new door will appear, labelled “Projection Booth.” Go through it.

 

The Fourth Loop

  • Alas! That was a ruse! You’re in another loop. Head forward again and into the main maze room. You’ll come into the room through a different door this time though (the one you just left through).
  • In this loop you’ll find Casey’s actor, and in order to proceed, you have to head up onto the platform behind him (where you usually come out) and grab the knife.
  • When you go back down the stairs the actor will have gone, but the door behind him (where the Writer’s Journey episode was) is now open.
  • Go through the next room and then follow the long corridor into the room at the end.
  • In that room, grab the Echo on your right. This will be part of the “Echoes - Draft Three” set, and will be called “The Grandmaster.”
  • After the Echo has finished, go through the door marked “Projection Booth.” 
  • In the next room, go in, turn around and go back through the door you just came in.
  • Then, head through the final room, crouch under the fallen shelf and you’ll finally be in the Projection Booth, at the third Murder Site. And that, will conclude the rather confusing film reel maze, and Alan’s eighth chapter.
