ok so the game is co-op online of course but also co-op on the same system.....so the question i ask is how do i set it up for the co-op on the same system ?

Start a single player game, open the pause menu, connect a second controller and press start on it.

Do both accounts get the achievements when playing couch co-op?

Yes both accounts on co op will get achievements. My brother and I have beeen doing it that way

Playing coop have many advantages over online it seems. Best being alot less lagging/crashes then having the xbox online.

Good thing about playin co op same system as well is you can earn the minutes lived in single player game too
