Introduction:
Prepare for the award-winning RPG experience in this definitive edition of Persona 5 Royal, featuring a treasure trove of downloadable content included! Forced to transfer to a high school in Tokyo, the protagonist has a strange dream. “You truly are a prisoner of fate. In the near future, ruin awaits you.” With the goal of “rehabilitation” looming overhead, he must save others from distorted desires by donning the mask of a Phantom Thief.

Step 1 - Follow a Walkthrough:
Now here me out... this game is awesome, but the achievements are a pain. There are so many different choices you can make on each day in the game, and each one will likely move the time of day or even transition you to the next calendar day. Progressing time is one of your enemies in trying to do everything necessary. I'll be honest, I don't think getting the completion here would be possible without a guide. I personally used this one which is very brief and only outlines the exact steps needed (I stuck to the "Normal Route" choices). There is also this one which goes into a ton of extra steps and details to get what they consider "100% completion" which goes above and beyond what is required for the achievements themselves.

One of the biggest pitfalls to watch out for is gaining access to the new third semester added in the "Royal" version of the game. To do this, you must get the Councilor confidant to Rank 9 before November 17th. You will then want to follow the steps to get the "True Ending" outlined in The Path Chosen (60G) below. I will say that once you have maxed out your social stats (Knowledge, Guts, etc) you can begin skipping parts of the walkthrough and either just doing things that interest you, or going to sleep to speed through the days. Even ranking up most of your confidants is not really necessary, but does help you in battle so it's worth doing.

The other thing you'll want to take note of as you play is the large amount of optional achievements for doing various things during battle, social activities in towns, fusing personas in specific ways, capturing a treasure demon, doing things inside the Mementos, etc. Most of this is outlined in the walkthroughs, but not everything. Pay attention to the achievement list to know what to aim for! At one point, after the maid cafe opened in late August, I just made a save and did all the social things not mentioned in the walkthrough to get some achievements, then reverted my save and continued to follow it.

Step 2 - NG+ (if needed):
If you somehow missed something in the above step, which could only happen if you were rushing through the walkthrough or didn't use one at all, you'll be able to start a new game with the same save data after completing the story and carry over pretty much everything (social stats, personas, equipment, money, etc) which will allow you to complete the game a second time and focus on the things you may still need to do.

Conclusion:
Persona 5 Royal is a weird, wonderful marvel of a game. It blends traditional JRPG combat and dungeons with a life simulator that really has some great moments in story-telling. It's not for the faint of heart, and certainly not an easy completion for those who don't like to follow walkthroughs and find their own way, but I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Just watch out for the penis monsters and devils on toilets... like I said, it's a weird game.

There are 52 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Obtained Arsène.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Established your own squad of thieves.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Completed a Mementos request.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Scored the highest on your exams.

    *MISSABLE*

This achievement requires that you correctly answer every exam question on the following dates: May 11-14, July 13-16, October 17-20, December 20-23. You will also need to max out your Knowledge social stat by completing various activities inside and outside of school during free time. The path maxing out your Knowledge stat, as well as all the answers to the exam questions, are once again outlined in the walkthroughs provided in the Road Map.

Note: You can actually get this after the October exams if you answer every question correctly.
  • Maxed out all social stats.

    *MISSABLE*

This is one of the most easily missable achievements in the game. Pretty much everything you do in the game will reward some kind of bonus to one of your five social stats: Knowledge, Guts, Charm, Kindness, and Proficiency. Because there are so many different activities to try, and each of them will move time along, it's hard to balance each stat without a ton of knowledge on what bonus the activity will reward, and if it will progress you to the next part of the day or even to the next full day. This is the main reason I've suggested to follow one of the guides in the Road Map.

If you do choose to play the game blindly, you can continue to work on this during a NG+ run, as all your social stat progress will carry over from a completed game save file. Then you'll have a better idea of what activities to do, and what rewards you will get from them to finish up.
  • Went to a hangout spot with someone.

There are about a dozen different hangout spots that will open up during either scripted story events, reading about them in magazines, or by leveling up your confidants. Once you have a spot open on the map, you'll need to find the appropriate confidant to invite to that location when they are ready to level up. Again, this is accomplished for you during the walkthroughs.
  • Entered a special relationship.

    *MISSABLE*

A "special relationship" is essentially a romance with one of the confidants. The following are the easiest to romance, as they have no pre-requisite responses needed prior to the Rank 9 hang out.

    • Lovers Arcana: Ann Takamaki.
    • Priestess Arcana: Makoto Niijima.
    • Empress Arcana: Haru Okumura.
    • Hermit Arcana: Futaba Sakura.
    • Temperance Arcana: Sadayo Kawakami.
    • Star Arcana: Hifumi Togo.
When you get to Rank 9, this is when you can confirm your feelings for them, and once you reach the Rank 10 scene the achievement will unlock. It should be fairly obvious what answers will lead to romance during the Rank 9 scene, but each relationship is outlined in the walkthroughs in the Road Map, which lists both the friendship and relationship choices for each Rank 9 interaction. Remember you can only romance one girl, so choose wisely!
  • Maxed out one of your Confidants.

To max out a confidant, you must have a number of social interactions with them in your free time during the story. When you are able to interact with them, you'll see a blue card on the map indicating someone to hang out with. While hanging out, the various dialogue choices may reward points toward ranking their confidence level with you. The walkthroughs listed in the Road Map will get you to max rank with every confidant in the game, so this is fairly simple. Work on Ryuji and Ann early on if you're playing blind, as they are the easiest to max out.
  • Evolved a party member's Persona.

If you are on the path to the True Ending, the third semester unlocked as part of the "Royal" version of the game, this will unlock automatically. Make sure to follow the steps to unlock the third semester by getting the Councillor confidant to Rank 9 before November 17th.
  • Obtained a Persona through negotiation.

To obtain new personas in the game, you must either defeat every enemy but one and hope the last one surrenders to you, or hit every enemy left alive with their weakness as the same time which causes a "Hold Up!" situation to occur. During this you can attempt to recruit the persona, or demand money/items. If you attempt to recruit them, you'll enter into a negotiation and must answer questions, matching the personality of the persona. Morgana will tell you how the persona is felling, and you can use the guide HERE to try and match your answers based on the question asked and the personality.
  • Performed a Baton Pass.

The Baton Pass special move will unlock shortly into the story, and occurs when you hit an enemy with their weakness. Once you do so, you'll be able to act again with the same character or you can choose to give your turn to one of your friends. Choose the Baton Pass option at that time to unlock the achievement.
  • Defeated enemies via Disaster Shadow explosion.

A Disaster Shadow is an enemy that could appear in any random encounter, and upon death will explode and deal damage to any neighboring enemies. You can tell a persona is a Disaster Shadow by its dark, galaxy look compared to a similar enemy of the same type. Use your strongest move against one to destroy it in one hit and it should explode with enough force to kill the other enemies and unlock the achievement.
  • Used the grappling hook.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Triggered a Technical.

A technical attack occurs after you inflict a status ailment on an enemy, then follow it up with an attack of a matching type that causes bonus damage, which in most cases is a physical attack for the bonus damage. Below is the full list of pairs.

    • Brainwash - Physical
    • Confuse - Wind, Nuclear
    • Despair - Physical
    • Dizzy - Physical
    • Fear - Physical
    • Freeze - Physical, Nuclear
    • Shock - Physical, Nuclear
    • Sleep - Physical
    • Rage - Physical
  • Obtained a Skill Accessory from a Palace ruler.

For this achievement, you must first collect all three hidden seeds inside one of the palace dungeons. You can see the locations of all these in the video below. Once you have all three from a single palace, they will fuse together into a skull. However, this item is useless until it is refined by Jose in the Memento dungeon. Head inside Mementos and proceed through the floors until he appears, and bring the skull item to him so it can be refined into a useable accessory, which will unlock the achievement.
  • Obtained a Treasure Demon.

Treasure Demons are rare enemies that will give more XP and Money once defeated. They can appear randomly inside the palaces, but are most easily found inside Mementos. You will see these while driving around as large diamonds, and can choose to initiate battle with them as you please. To unlock this achievement you must capture one of them as a persona, which will be done by either landing a critical or technical hit to cause the Hold Up! or the few treasure demons listed below have extra weaknesses that can be exploited. The remaining types do not have an extra weakness and must be hit with a critical or technical.

    • Regent - Nuclear, Psychic
    • Queen's Necklace - Gun
    • Stone of Scone - Curse
    • Orichalcum - Bless
Warning: This achievement is slightly buggy in that it will not unlock if you do not have an open slot in your persona roster. Despite being able to capture and register it by immediately releasing it, this will not unlock the achievement. It must be immediately added to your roster to get the achievement.
  • Performed a Showtime attack.

A Showtime Attack is a co-op move that will unlock as part of the story in the third palace dungeon. You will learn move of these with new characters as the story progresses. The tutorial attack does not unlock the achievement, so you'll need it to happen a second time for that. This is completely RNG, and can happen any time a character with a learned Showtime attack has a turn. You will see a large animation play and the button-page.png button prompt on screen, alerting you to initiate the Showtime attack. Do so a second time to unlock the achievement.
  • Traded in flowers while in Mementos.

Flowers are a collectible found in Mementos after meeting Jose for the first time. These will show up all over every floor, and the cheapest item you can purchase from Jose is only 15 Flowers, so it won't take any time at all to collect enough to purchase something. These do not stay in your inventory when you leave, so be sure to spend any you have if you want to get something for your trouble.
  • Traded in stamps while in Mementos.

See The Search for Power (40G) for more info.
  • Completely changed the cognition of Mementos.

Stamps are another type of collectible that will show up after meeting Jose in Mementos. These are stands that can be found at the exit of each floor, and sometimes also behind random garage doors or breakable walls. Be sure to search each floor carefully to get as many as possiblle. You will need a minimum of 30 Stamps to change a "cognition" of Mementos, which basically means you have maxed out the bonus from one of three categories. The total stamps for each are as follows:

    • Increased XP: 84 Stamps
    • Increased Money: 50 Stamps
    • Increased Items: 30 Stamps
  • Encountered a deviation in Mementos.

A deviation is a random occurance in Mementos where a floor will be completely dark when you arrive, and you will not be able to see or use the mini-map. In trade, these floors have tougher enemies for better rewards, and a higher chance of treasure demons spawning. You will get the achievement the first time this occurs, so you can always just leave the floor and return to reset it to normal if you don't want to deal with the darkness.
  • Conquered the Reaper.

    *MISSABLE*

The Reaper is a super-boss that will appear on any floor of Mementos if you sit in the Morgana bus for a total of two minutes without moving. It is recommended that you be around Level 60+ if you plan to fight it for real on the lower difficulties, and increase by 10 Levels for each difficulty you raise the game. However, if you are playing on Safe mode, you can do this the first time you arrive in Mementos and just keep resurrecting your characters when you die. It will take a long time, but you will succeed eventually and gain about 20-30 levels for your trouble, depending on when you do it. Just keep using physical attacks on Safe mode, while Showtime attacks when they appear will be the bulk of your damage.

A legit version of the fight can be seen below. Use buffs on your party couples with your strongest physical attacks. He has no weaknesses and can not be hit with status effects, so it's literally just a boxing match.
  • Performed a Guillotine execution.

A Guillotine execution will be the first way of fusing persona you unlock, the first time you visit the Velvet Room. This requires that you select two persona from your active roster to sacrifice, creating a new third type of persona. You will likely do this often to create new persona to match your confidants.
  • Performed a Group Guillotine execution.

The Group Guillotine execution will be unlocked by getting your Strength confidant (the twins from the Velvet Room) to Rank 1. To increase their ranks, you must present to them with a specific persona in your active roster, often with a specific move learned. You can find a guide to their ranks HERE. You need to get them to Rank 3 for Success Built on Sacrifice (15G), and will need to use a group execution to unlock Rank 2, so this will come along the way.
  • Used Incense on a Persona in Lockdown.

Lockdown is an option you unlock in the Velvet Room by getting the Strength confidant to Rank 3. Once you unlock it, you will also be given an incense item, so you can do this achievement right away. Choose any persona from your active roster to put into Lockdown, then choose the incense item you were given to use on the persona and increase its stats. The achievement unlocks right when the incense is used, so if you want to get your persona back early feel free. If you ever need more incense, you can buy them with flowers from Jose in Mementos.
  • Performed a Gallows execution.

The Gallows execution is unlocked automatically during the story, after the Pyramid palace. This execution does not fuse personas into something new like the others, but rather sacrifices one persona to stengthen another. Choose one to kill and one to strengthen, and away you go.
  • Performed an execution during a Fusion Alarm.

Fusion Alarms will unlock automatically as part of the story, and you can get this achievement the first time it occurs. You will be sent to the Velvet Room automatically, so it's hard to miss. Perform any type of execution while the Velvet Room is bathed in red light and you'll get this achievement.

If you miss it during the tutorial, fusion alarms can be triggered by ambushing many enemies in a row and performing well in battle. There is no specific meter to view to see how close you are to triggering an alarm, but it isn't very difficult to do.
  • Performed an Electric Chair execution.

The Electric Chair execution will unlock automatically as part of the story at the beginning of August. This execution turns a persona into an item. Choose any persona in your active roster and you'll see what you could gain. Complete the execution to unlock the achievement.
  • Cleaned up in Leblanc.

    *MISSABLE*

Cleaning is an optional task you can perform in the coffee bar where you live by interacting with the closet on the first floor, right next to the stairs. You'll gain Kindness points, and bonus points for the Heirophant confidant - as well as the achievement.
  • Worked a part-time job.

    *MISSABLE*

Part-time jobs can be acquired in a number of ways, most easily by reading the pamphlets on the rack in the underground walkway in Shibuya. Once you read about the job, you'll automatically call and apply (and always be accepted). You can also get a job at the bar by ranking up the Devil confidant. Then you'll need to travel to the job site and choose to work a shift. You can only work at the 777 Convenience Store during the day, and the Beef Bowl Shop or Crossroads Bat at night; the flower shop can be done at either time.
  • Scored a hit at the batting cages.

You can find the batting cages in Yongenjaya, on the main stree around the corner from Leblanc. I'd suggest going at night as there is no limit to how many pitches you get, while during the day you only get five chances. However, this is extremely simple - line up your bat with the trajectory of the ball and press button-a.png at the right time to get a hit. You'll gain Proficiency points for doing this activity.
  • Couldn't take the heat in the bathhouse.

The bathhouse is directly across the alley from Leblanc. For this achievement, you must keep going there on rainy days until you get a short cutscene where you're passed out on the floor from the heat. For some reason, this does not occur in any other weather, and it is yet another completely RNG achievement, so just keep trying until it happens. Feel free to save/reload prior to entering so you can get it done in one night.
  • Won the lottery.

For this achievement you must win the lottery on a DAILY or WEEKLY ticket. For some reason the monthly ticket does not provide the achievement, so I'd suggest buying a daily/weekly ticket early in the story to keep trying in case you fail. You can purchase tickets at the Shibuya train station, near the Sun confidant. Return on the specified date (1 or 7 days later depending on the ticket type) to see if you've won. The results are locked in as soon as you purchase the ticket, so don't try and save/reload on a weekly ticket's drawing date as it will never change.
  • Scored a prize in the crane game.

The crane game is located in the Akihabara arcade which unlocks at the end of August. You can play every day for a chance to win, and this is yet another completely RNG achievement. You simply spend money and see what happens. It does not pass time, so visit every day after the arcade unlocks until you get the achievement.
  • Sold old clothing at Furugi no Neuchi.

This store can be found in Kichijoji. It is literally just a resale shop, so as long as you have an item of clothing you are not wearing, you can sell it here to unlock the achievement.
  • Played a game of darts.

You will find a darts and billiards bar called The Penguin Sniper in Kichijoji for this achievement, which unlocks in early June. Come to this location during any free time section and play a round of darts to unlock the achievement - it does not matter if you invite a friend or if you win/lose. You can even choose to immediately concede and quit the game, still getting the achievement.
  • Played a game of billiards.

You will find a darts and billiards bar called The Penguin Sniper in Kichijoji for this achievement, which unlocks in early June. Come to this location during any free time section and play a round of billiards. This isn't an actual mini-game, just a cutscene, so once that plays out you'll get your achievement.
  • Attended the jazz club.

The jazz club in Kichijoji unlocks while ranking up the Justice confidant - Rank 4 to be precise. Once you have it unlocked, visit it at night during any free time segment to unlock the achievement. You do not need to invite anyone if you don't want to.
  • Visited a temple.

The temple in Kichijoji can be visited during the day after unlocking it in early June. Just speak to the old man out front to spend time at the temple for a quick cutscene and achievement.
  • Customized a gun.

To unlock the ability to customize guns, you must first unlock the Hanged Man confidant. This persona is the owner of the Airsoft gun shop in Shibuya. You will first need to raise your Guts social stat to Rank 4 before he will become a confidant. Once you have done that, speak to him to recruit him, and then speak to him once more to use his services to customize any gun. Purchase any upgrade to unlock the achievement.
  • Passed time at the fishing pond.

The fishing pond will unlock if you accept an invitation from Ryuji on July 6th to join him, or you can read the book Fishpond Spotter from the Shibuya bookstore to unlock the location. Once it is unlocked, you must travel there during free time and sucessfully catch a fish to unlock the achievement. Throw out your line and wait for a fish to bite, then hold button-a.png once it does, angling the analog-left.png toward the dock to reel in the fish. You can try as many times as you'd like until you're successful.
  • Ordered from the special menu at the maid café.

The maid cafe can be found in Akihabara, which unlocks in late August. You will find it across from the donut shop. To unlock the "special menu" you must first earn 20 stamps at the cafe by spending 20,000 Yen. You can only spend 5k per trip, so after four trips ordering the most expensive item, you will unlock an automatic cutscene and this achievement on your 5th trip to the cafe.

Secret achievements

  • Completed the castle Palace.

Story related and can not be missed.

Note: These achievements generally unlock a few days after you defeat the boss in each palace/dungeon. There will be a specific story event related to that person's real world counterpart that will actually trigger it, so don't get worried when you don't get the achievement for clearing the palace after the boss fights.
  • Completed the museum Palace.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Completed the bank Palace.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Completed the pyramid Palace.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Completed the spaceport Palace.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Completed the casino Palace.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Completed the cruise ship Palace.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Completed Mementos.

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Completed every Palace.

Story related and can not be missed.

Note: This requires completing the Laboratory Palace, which can be missable if you do not follow the path to the true ending (refer to The Path Chosen (60G)).
  • Watched the ending.

Story related and can not be missed.

There are actually six different endings that could trigger this achievement, but we will be aiming for the game's "True Ending" which involves unlocking and completing the new third semester. To get all of the achievements in one playthrough, make sure you do the following:

    • Get Councillor confidant to Rank 9 before November 17
    • On 11/19, do not agree to work with your interrogator
    • On 11/24, once again refuse the deal
    • On 1/9, yet again refuse the deal
    • On 2/2, you guessed it - refuse the deal - twice!
If at any point the game ends on one of the dates above, you chose the wrong dialogue options. Reload your last save and try again! You want to always choose the first dialogue option when responding to questions on those dates to ensure you're refusing to work with her.
