Introduction:
Grand Theft Auto V makes a return on eighth-generation consoles. It’s prettier, it’s bigger, and it’s a whole lot crazier. Set in the state of San Andreas, GTA V follows the story of three strangers – Franklin, Michael, and Trevor - as they form a bond through various criminal activities in the pursuit of man’s greatest goal: wealth. The game is presented in an open world format, which can be freely explored at your own pace right from the game’s inception. This means that unlike previous titles, the entirety of San Andreas (Los Santos and Blaine County) is open from the get-go, so you can choose to explore the world before taking on the Single Player missions, side activities, and everything else San Andreas has to offer. Achievement wise, your time will be split between the Single Player portion of the game and the Multiplayer portion of the game: GTA Online. Overall, you’ll need to dedicate ??? hours towards GTA V in order to see the game complete. Although some may pin the phrase “lazy port” to this title, the new features adds to Grand Theft Auto V, such as the brand new first-person perspective, will create an immersive experience for returning players. Be prepared for a thrilling adventure in GTA V.
Story:
Like any open-world Single Player title there is no suggested or recommend order in how you should go about your playthrough. Keep in mind however, that you will need to complete the main storyline, earn a Gold Medal in a few hobbies and pastimes, uncover the entire map, and obtain a total of 70 Gold Medals between the many story missions and side missions. Since there is so much to do in the world, you might feel overwhelmed at times. To avoid the stress, play at a comfortable pace and make sure to spread out your play time between all three characters and all the different missions and activities. Also, take note that during the story missions, you will be given the option to skip the entirety of a mission if you die more than five times. Do NOT skip the mission at this point or else the story-related achievement(s) tied to that mission will not unlock.
GTA Online:
Grand Theft Auto Online offers an open world experience to be shared with other gamers. It extracts numerous elements from the Single Player, most notably the countless activities and missions to participate in, while blending Online components such as matchmaking and shared free roam (of which has been increased to thirty players). There are several ways to launch the Online. When booting the game up, you can follow the on-screen button prompt in the loading screen to join an Online lobby immediately. If you prefer to host your own lobby, allow the Single Player to load. From here, pause your game and scroll over to the "Online" tab. Simple click "Play GTA Online" and you can now choose to host a Closed Crew Session, Closed Friends Session, Solo Session, or Public Session.
While working your way towards Rank 100 or earning at least 30 Platinum Awards, you will want to make sure to rob all 20 stores around San Andreas, participate in all ten activities, and obtain first place in all fifteen competitive game modes the Online has to offer. There are a few achievements that are tied directly to these game modes, such as winning a Rally Race as a Co-Driver, clearing all ten waves in Survival Mode and completing a Gang Attack without dying. Furthermore, some achievements are Rank specific, such as surviving a bounty for a full day, buying real estate, calling in gang backup, and killing a thief who mugged you. Overall, there are no missable achievements in this portion of the game, so sit back, have fun and "enjoy your stay" on GTA Online.
GTA Online Character Transfer:
In order to transfer your GTA Online character and all their progress from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One version of the game, you will first need to complete the Prologue mission and then Franklin’s first two missions. After arriving at Franklin’s house, go ahead and save your game. When you awake, pause your game and scroll over to the “Online” tab in the Pause Menu, and then click “Character Transfer.” This will automatically boot up the Rockstar Policy page. Accept the terms and conditions and then click “Character Transfer” once more in the “Online” tab. After this, you will now be able to select which character you desire to transfer over though take note you can only perform this character transfer once. After selecting your desired character, you will be returned to the Single Player and will be required to wait in returning to GTA Online until the transfer has been successfully completed.
After five or ten minutes have passed, try entering GTA Online by firing it up through the Pause Menu. When you enter GTA Online and find yourself in the character selection screen, any Multiplayer achievements that you had originally obtained with your character on the Xbox 360 will begin to automatically unlock. Please take note that they may not all unlock at once. If this occurs, simply choose your character (you have the option to choose and fully re-customize your transferred character) and when your finished at the police station, a few of the remaining achievements will unlock upon entering your apartment. As a final note, though odd, the Single Player achievements for completing all the stunt jumps, full modifying a weapon, and fully modifying a vehicle will also unlock during this time.
Miscellaneous:
There are several achievements that are not directly tied to the story and side missions. Tasks such as surviving three minutes on a 3-Star chase, fully modifying both a weapon and vehicle, and making profit in the stock market are just the premise of these miscellaneous achievements. There are also four achievements that can only be obtained while playing as Trevor, and one achievement that can only be completed as Michael. As a note of importance, be sure to get these done early on in your playthrough. You will also need to take into consideration that there are 245 collectibles in this game in the form of space ship parts (50), letter scraps (50), toxic waste (30), stunt jumps (50) and aerial challenges (65).
WARNING (POTENTIAL SPOILER): Towards the very end of the game, Devin will arrive at Franklin's house and inform him on his next job. CHOOSE OPTION "C" or else you can miss the following achievements if you haven't already obtained them: "TP Industries Arms Race", "Red Mist", "Kifflom!", "Three Man Army", "Altruist Acolyte", and "Wanted: Alive or Alive".
Mop Up:
If you have missed any Single Player or Online achievements during your time on Grand Theft Auto V, hop back into either portion of the game for a clean up of whatever it is you still need to work on. Chances are you will need to hunt down some more collectibles, work on your Gold Medals for Single Player, grind out Platinum Awards for GTA Online, or even continue your journey towards Rank 100. At any rate, make sure you snag the remainder of these achievements before putting this game away.
Heists Update DLC
(Full G&RM Here)
Introduction to Heists:
Welcome back to Los Santos, you crazy hooligans. In GTA V’s latest Heist Update, five brand new cooperative missions have been added to the online portion of the game alongside new vehicles, weapons, gameplay mechanics and more. Set out to be a completely exhilarating cooperative experience, the new missions allow players to pull off a tense multi-part heists, raids, and robberies. In order to pull of these heists, you will need to be at least a Level 12 and own a high-end apartment before Lester calls you about the first heist. This update brings with it a total of nine new achievements, some of which will see players completing all the individual heists, as well as performing other team-based tasks throughout the various missions. Depending on your current amount of money, this update will take anywhere from twenty-five or more hours to complete.
Online Heists:
The five heists included in this update include “The Fleeca Job,” “The Prison Break,” “The Humane Labs Raid,” “Series A Funding,” and “The Pacific Standard Job.” There are three achievements related to completing these heists, specifically "Parole Day" completing The Prison Break, "Dead Presidents" for completing both The Fleeca Job and The Pacific Standard Job, and In the "In The Name of Science" for completing The Humane Labs Raid and Series A Funding. Each of these heists consists of multiple Setup missions as well as a Finale and competing your first Setup mission will unlock Be Prepared.
As a heist leader (lobby host), you will need to invest your money in a Setup mission and also split the final cut of a Finale evenly across four players for "Shot Called" and "Four Way." Take note players will also have to complete a Finale without taking damage in order to obtain "Can’t Touch This," however this is easily achievement during The Fleeca Job finale without much effort.
As for the last two achievements, "Live a Little" requires players to spend $8 million on the new vehicles included in the Heist Update, though there is a workout for this achievement which only requires players to have $3.4 million in the bank. Lastly, "Mastermind" will unlock once 25 platinum medals have been obtained. These medals are rewarded to players post-mission based on their kills, accuracy, headshots, and general contribution towards completing the main objective of a mission.
Mop Up for Heists:
There isn’t necessarily a “mop up” for these achievements, but take note that players can always grind out their platinum medals on The Fleeca Job with another player in order to finish up "Mastermind". Also, if your short on cash and still need to reach that $3.4 million for "Live a Little," it’s wise to replay the heists as many times as necessary with loyal partners. If the party agrees to it, the player who is in need of the most money can be given 100% of the finale cut in order to make rapid progress towards that monetary goal.
Conclusion to Heists:
All in all, the Heist Update brings five enjoyable cooperative missions to GTA Online with nine unique achievements. Rockstar’s online servers may be a little messy at times, but once you’re in a mission with a group of players, be it a Heist Setup or Heist Finale, the fun to be had is priceless. It may take up to twenty-five hours or more to obtain all nine achievements, coupled with some mindless grinding for platinum medals and money, but it’s sure to be a pleasant experience in exploring the new content and replaying the epic heists.
Freemode Events DLC
Introduction to Freemode Events:
Welcome to the Freemode Events DLC for Grand Theft Auto V. The DLC finally brings the PC version of Rockstar Editor & Director Mode to consoles as well as several freeroam events for GTA Online, although every achievement in the DLC is earned within the Story mode.
Rockstar Editor:
There are 2 achievements for 40 related to exporting videos within the Rockstar Editor (Export 1 & 10 total videos) where the same video can be used to export over multiple times.
Director Mode:
There are 7 achievements for 160 related to the Director Mode within Rockstar Editor. The majority of these achievements will require you to enter the mode as a specific character. You will ultimately need to unlock all Story & Special characters by progressing through the story mode. If you already have these characters unlocked prior to starting this DLC, you can play as the characters right from the start.
Animals:
The only collectable related achievement in the game worth 50 will require you to collect all the Peyote Plants from the base game to unlock all the animal characters. If you have already collected the plants prior to starting this DLC, all animals will already be unlocked for you.
Conclusion to Freemode Events:
Depending on your progress on the game when starting this DLC, it can take from a couple hours to a whole playthrough of the story mode to complete the DLC due to unlocking the characters. Overall there are no difficulty based, multiplayer, or time consuming achievements involved.
Introduction:
GTA V’s latest online update, The Doomsday Heist, focuses on a storyline where your protagonist is called upon to save Los Santos and the entire country from impending doom. In order to initiate this massive heist, though, you will need to own a Facility and be a CEO, VIP, or Motorcycle Club President. This update brings with it a total of eight new achievements. Four of these achievements will come naturally for completing The Doomsday Heist; however, the remaining batch involve more difficulty and expensive one-off challenges and feats. Depending on your current amount of money, this update will take anywhere from twenty or more hours to complete.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
The Doomsday Heist is split across three massive Acts. Each Act involves a certain amount of Setup missions, and each of those Setup missions involves a prerequisite Prep mission. Prep missions involve smuggling certain assets while in a Public Freeroam lobby. Setups and Finales, however, should be familiar in design and can be done in Private lobbies. Investing your cash upfront to initiate the heist will unlock "Getting Started." Please refer to the guide below for more information, as there are two prerequisites before starting the heist.
Then, from there, completing Act I will unlock "The Data Breaches," completing Act II will unlock "The Bogdan Problem," and completing Act III will unlock "The Doomsday Scenario." You will also unlock "A World Worth Saving" for having completed the entirety of The Doomsday Heist.
In order to unlock "Orbital Obliteration," you will need to spend a minimum of $1.4 million to kill another player with the new Orbital Cannon. Finally, there's "Elitist" and "Masterminds;" the former is earned for completing all of the Elite Challenges in each Act's Finale and the latter is earned for completing all three Criminal Mastermind challenges. Please refer to the guide below for specific information regarding these two achievements and take note that they are very difficult and require high levels of patience, skill, and coordination.
A step-by-step guide/walkthrough of this entire DLC, courtesy of user Neg96, can be found HERE. It is extremely detailed, and should provide all of the information needed to finish this heist.
Conclusion:
The Doomsday Heist is ridiculous, yet very enjoyable. Five of the eight achievements in this add-on are manageable; however, the Orbital Cannon is very expensive to purchase and use, and the Elite Challenges and Criminal Mastermind challenges require fine skill and multiple playthroughs of practice. It'll likely take you more than twenty hours to complete this add-on, but in the end, it'll be worth the blood, sweat, and tears.
Overall Conclusion:
On Xbox One, Grand Theft Auto V is an enjoyable experience for newcomers and returning players alike. With a host of new features in both the Single Player and Online components of the game, there are more than enough reasons in taking a plunge and experiencing the chaos of Los Santos this holiday. A vividly realized open-world, an exuberant cast of leading characters, and polished action gameplay are just the first of many reasons why Grand Theft Auto V is a pleasure to play. The achievement list may host its fair share of tedious tasks, such as collectible hunting and online grinding for awards and ranks, however you’ll soon come to realize the entertainment that surrounds such mindless tasks. Just like the first time around, Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox One is completely worth your time.
