In his weekly blog, George R.R. Martin appeared to tease the Elden Ring adaptation rumours. He was playful, he was naughty – cheeky even.
In the blog post (via VGC), Martin was talking about the game, in light of it receiving the Nebula Award for Game Writing. He wrote, “I did the worldbuilding for that project, Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team did all the rest.”
While on that topic, though, he then got rather playful, and wrote this:
“Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on Elden Ring . . . I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?”
So that’s definitely something. Whether it will be a film or, probably more likely, a TV series, it seems like a safe bet.
We’ve had a recent run of TV adaptation, such as The Witcher, on Netflix; The Last of Us, on HBO; and and that Cyberpunk cartoon that people seemed to go about loads for a short while.
Martin is obviously most famous for Game of Thrones, which was itself a huge hit for HBO, so it would be fitting if Elden Ring wound up on there, no? The DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, has just launched to critical acclaim and is doing rather well, so the iron is certainly hot.
