Marketplace DLC:
I personally only bought the "Premium Traveler Pack" to get the artifact that lowers all crafting requirements. The others are nice, but in-game artifacts are available to boost SP and XP gains, and you won't be buying much from the general store, so the others are far from necessary. The "Growth Boost Pack" could be helpful in the early game as it doubles CP/XP/SP gains to make the first half of the game easier before you get the in-game artifcats later on.
Step 1: Complete the Game
The game gives you a bit of leeway to miss some things for the final completion, but not a lot. You don't need 100% on the skits, recipes, skills, enemies, or crafting for instance - but still nearly 90% or more for each, so be thorough. You can mop up the remainder of anything missed in the next step. Thankfully nothing in the game is permanently missable!
Step 2: Post-Game Grind
Xbox One --> Xbox Series Save Transfers
If you have an Xbox Series console and own both versions of the game, you'll be able to strategically use the associated save transfer system to get the DLC completion done on both versions only having to play through it once. Make sure you play on Xbox One first, and anytime you're about to unlock an achievement, save your game. Go back to the DLC menu, and choose to upload your save data. Once it uploads, load up the Xbox Series version and on the DLC menu there, download the save data you previously uploaded. Now you can do whatever you were about to do and unlock the associated achievement, then continue playing the Xbox One version until the next achievement point. Here is a list of when to do this:
- Just before the boss door of Mausoleum of the Ruins: Helgal-Ryugola 238. The First Seal (15G)
- When you return to Niez and it is under attack. Resolution (15G)
- When you arrive in Ulzbek and meet with Doc. True Freedom (15G)
- Just before the boss door of Mausoleum of the Jungle: Helgal-Ryugola 67 The Second Seal (15G)
- In Keystone, before jumping in the well for Hero of the Summit (15G)
- In Keystone, as you're about to collect the final portrait for Always on Her Mind (15G)
- Just before the final boss of Keystone Departure (35G)
- Before crafting the ryugola core weapons Arms Master (15G)
- Before completing the 40th sub-quest Unparalleled Problem Solver (35G)
- Before completing the 12th character sub-quest Individual Growth (15G)
- Before fighting the Ultimate group training ground fight Elite Vanguard, Again (15G)
Starting the DLC
The Beyond the Dawn DLC is accessed through the main menu of the game, and played completely separately from the main story. It takes place after the main story, and will give you bonuses based on your main game completion. I got 110k Gald, 3100 SP, and 100 CP for completing the story and all sub-quests, plus a special weapon for each character for having all characters at Level 100. If you completed the original 1000 Gamerscore prior to starting the DLC you should have the same. You can choose to accept them or not, but it will obviously make things easier if you do. You can then choose all your gameplay settings, and can feel free to use Story difficulty to once again make things easier. You will begin the additonal story at Level 65. Be sure to go into the Settings immediately and accept any unclaimed DLC items, these transfer separately to the DLC from the main game, so you may have even more additional money and items in there to ease your completion. There is even a free "Very Easy" difficulty that you can download from the Microsoft Store to yet again make things easier on yourself.
Playthrough
There are no missables in the DLC to worry about, so aside from managing the save transfers and switching back and forth between the Xbox One and Xbox Series versions (if applicable), the completion is very straightforward. Simply follow the story, grab all side-quests when possible, and the few collectibles needed for the weapons and portraits achievements. Unfortunately this DLC I really wouldn't say is worth the price of admission. It doesn't add much to the story, and the actual story quests are only like 6-8 hours long, with the other half of the completion time coming from the boring sub-quests. For $30 it's just not justified with no new playable characters, no additions to the battle system, etc. Grab it on sale if you can, but otherwise don't bother. It's very strange this came out two years after the main game and was this short and underwhelming.
