Introduction:
Crypt of the Serpent King is a remake of an old Xbox Live Indie Game (the ones on Xbox 360 that sold for $1 and did not have achievements). The developer (a one-man studio from Spain) updated the game with Unity for Xbox One in 2016 and has updated it once again for Xbox Series consoles in 2022. It is a procedurally-generated dungeon crawler/Action-RPG. While it's not a terrible game, it's also not great. There are only seven different enemy types (one per floor of the dungeon) with unique bosses at the end of each level. A complete run can take under an hour on Casual, a bit more on the harder difficulties if you choose to try them. The graphics in the Xbox Series version are much nicer than the Xbox One version, but the game still plays exactly the same.
Playthrough: Complete the Game
Casual difficulty has tons of food and gold chests, as well as no health cap, meaning you can keep picking up health and go over 100 total HP. You also save any gold and experience you've earned if you die to apply to your character if you need to try again. I would suggest trying to get 1000 gold on the first floor and buying the mace, then saving enough money to buy the sword for 6000 gold. If you continue to loot every chest, buy the bow as well for 18000 gold but you can basically stop looting once you have the sword if you want. You don't really need the bow with how easy combat is, but it can come in handy if three enemies spawn near each other to give you some space.
Combat is extremely basic, and every enemy can be killed the same way. Either begin your attack and then walk toward the enemy so that your swing connects as you move forward (this will interrupt any attack they were beginning to use), or simply walk forward to bait them into attacking and then move backward quickly, then once they miss, counter-attack and repeat. Once you get the timing down of either method, you'll never take damage again. Be sure at some point you've opened a chest, grabbed a key, killed a goblin, and as mentioned before buy the sword - basically all of these things are impossible to miss - and once you beat the final floor of the dungeon, you'll have the full 1000 Gamerscore.

Conclusion:
For a measly $3 and an hour of your time, CotSK is a decent way to get 1000 Gamerscore. Outside of that, there's not much going for it. No replayability, no story, and no real reason this should have a remastered version... but here we are.
