Introduction:
Gotham Knights is the latest open world Batman game to come to consoles, from Batman: Arkham Origins developer WB Games Montreal. However, rather than playing as Batman, here you'll be taking on the role of the extended Bat-family, choosing between playing as Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood.

The game offers up probably the best version of Gotham City seen in a video game to date, but it does add in far more RPG mechanics than the Arkham games did, which might not be to everyone's taste. But if you're a Bat-fan, there's definitely fun to be found here, either alone or in co-op.

For XBA’s coverage of this game, including a review by Richard Walker, head to THIS LINK.

Walkthrough:
Gotham Knights may have been marketed as a co-op game first-and-foremost, but luckily, there's not a single achievement here which is focused on multiplayer - every single achievement can be obtained while playing entirely by yourself, which is a welcome relief.

As this is an open world game with several optional objective achievements, there's not a definitive walkthrough to be had here. However, there are a few things we would recommend.

Firstly, choose a single character that you'd like to play with, and continue with them for the rest of the game. You'll briefly need to switch between all four characters to unlock The Batman Family (15G), but otherwise, the game is much easier to get if you stick to one character for the campaign. You can also play the entire game on the Very Easy difficulty, which makes fights considerably shorter, drastically reducing the amount of time it takes to get this achievement. Considering how bloated Gotham Knight's achievement list can be, we'd recommend setting the difficulty to at least Easy to make it less of a grind, and Very Easy for when you're having to mop up any combat achievements, such as Family Meeting (15G) .

Then, once you've picked your character, progress the story until you unlock Whispered Words (15G). At this point, all of the collectibles will become available in the open world. From there, feel free to switch between the main story and the side missions. The vast majority of the achievements will unlock through normal play and progression. And then, once you've finished the main missions and side missions, come back to this guide to see what you need to mop up.

Conclusion:
You may spend a lot of your time comparing Gotham Knights to the Arkham series, and that's to be expected. But this is a different beast, and something to be relished on its own terms.

There are 61 achievements with a total of 1390 points

  • Play as Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood

This one is very easy to get. After escaping from the GCPD headquarters during the first Case File and returning to the Belfry, you’ll unlock the ability to switch characters. Simply go up to each suit in the Belfry, and change between all four characters to unlock the achievement.
  • Complete all 16 Training Area exercises

The training area exercises are accessible from the area in the Belfry with all the gym equipment, specifically the wooden punching post next to the training dummy. At the beginning of the game, there are only ten exercises you can complete, but you’ll unlock the other six as you go through the game, complete challenges, and unlock new abilities.

Try to complete this right near the end of the game since your characters will be more powerful than earlier. You’ll also have to switch between characters to make sure you have access to all of the exercises.
  • Find all of Bruce Wayne's hidden audio recordings

After completing Case File 01, you’ll begin to notice Secret Caches marked on your map. Find these caches, and then quickly make your way through the beacons to unlock the cache location. Once you find them, you’ll also find an audio recording to go with it.

More Secret Caches will pop up on your map as you complete Case Files, both the main story ones and side quests, so keep an eye out. There’s 12 Secret Caches (and therefore 12 Audio Logs) to collect in total, and once you get them all, the achievement will unlock.
  • Successfully protect Batman's secret identity

After completing Case File 01, new Secret Identity Compromised markers will appear on your map. Travel to the locations and complete the objectives as they appear. More of these markers will appear as you progress through each Case File and clear the previous marker.

If you’re spotted and fail one of the Secret Identity Compromised challenges, don’t worry, you can just attempt it again the next night. Due to the stealthy nature of these challenges, they are best completed as Batgirl or Robin. Batgirl can get a hacking ability that makes her invisible to cameras and lasers, which is super useful, while Robin’s stealthy abilities are better for avoiding guards.

Eventually, once you’ve done them all, you can interact with the television upstairs at the Belfry to see Batman’s surprisingly naked alibi, and unlock the achievement.
  • Complete every Batcycle time trial

As you progress through the game and its challenges, you’ll eventually start to see Batcycle time trials appearing on your map. Each time you complete one, a new one should become available to you the next night. They’re not too difficult, and once you’ve completed them all, the achievement will unlock.
  • Reach the maximum level as any member of the Batman Family

Fight enemies, complete challenges, and find collectibles to earn XP in the open world to level up - it's as simple as that. By the time you've completed everything in this guide and completed the game, you should have reached the maximum level of 30. Except, that isn't actually the maximum level. No, instead you'll need to start a New Game+ from the main menu, which will increase the level cap to 40. Play through the game again and grind XP until you reach level 40, and the achievement will be yours.
  • Unlock all Momentum Abilities as Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, or Red Hood

As you progress through the story, more Momentum Abilities will be added to the Momentum Abilities page. Once a new ability appears here, you’ll need to complete a specific challenge to unlock it. Complete the Momentum Ability challenges on the Challenges page as they pop up, and you’ll get the achievement near the end of the game.

You’ll also need to complete Knighthood (15G) for the character you’ve chosen to unlock one of the abilities.
  • Unlock all four Momentum bars as Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, or Red Hood

Once you reach level 10, you’ll get two momentum bars for each character, and at level 15, you’ll unlock three. The fastest way to get this is to then switch to Nightwing (if you’re not already playing as him) and unlock the Extra Momentum Bar skill in the Acrobat skill tree, unlocking the achievement in the process. If you’re playing as another character, however, you just need to reach level twenty to get all four momentum bars.
  • Defeat 30 Mob Godmothers

Mob Godmothers will begin turning up at pretty much every Mob crime in Gotham City once you get past level 10 and keep progressing through the story. If you don’t unlock this achievement naturally, search for crimes in areas of the map with Mob presence (it can change each night) and keep taking out the Godmothers until the achievement unlocks.
  • Defeat 45 Regulator Shockers

Regulator Shockers will begin turning up at pretty much every Regulator crime in Gotham City once you get past level 10 and progress far enough in the story. If you don’t unlock this achievement naturally, search for crimes in areas of the map with Regulator presence (it can change each night) and keep taking out the Shockers until the achievement unlocks.
  • Defeat 30 Regulator Drone Masters

The Regulator Drone Masters first appear during the Heist at S.T.A.R. Labs mission, and they are a right pain in the arse. Once they first turn up, they’ll appear frequently at Regulator crimes around Gotham - seek these out and take out enough of the Drone Masters to unlock the achievement.
  • Defeat 30 Freaks Bulldozers

Freaks Bulldozers will begin turning up at pretty much every Freaks crime in Gotham City once you get past level 10 and progress far enough in the story. If you don’t unlock this achievement naturally, search for crimes in areas of the map with Freaks presence (it can change each night) and keep taking out the Bulldozers until the achievement unlocks.
  • Inflict Elemental Effects on enemies 50 times

The easiest way to do this is to make sure you have a melee or ranged weapon with elemental damage equipped (craft one if you need to). Attack an enemy with it, and you’ll see the elemental effect (whether it’s cryogenic, incendiary, bioelectric, concussive, or toxic damage) on their health gauge, indicating that it’s working. Do this 50 times, and the achievement will unlock.

You can boost the amount of elemental buildup you inflict by adding mod chips to these weapons, and it’s far quicker to build up with your ranged attacks than your melee attacks. Many of the heroes also have Momentum Abilities that deal a lot of elemental damage, quickly building it up, and you can also deal elemental damage by attacking elemental canisters when near enemies. If you engage in the elemental side of the combat mechanics, you’ll quickly unlock this achievement.
  • Discover all the murals for Tim's Gotham City Street Art project

There’s twelve Street Art murals dotted around Gotham City, and we've got all of the locations in our Gotham Knights Street Art - Murals Locations Guide here.
  • Locate all Landmarks of Gotham City

There are forty Historic Landmarks to find around Gotham City. To add them to your collection, you need to find out small plaque outside the front of each one, and interact with it. Luckily for you, we've got all forty locations in our Gotham Knights Historic Landmarks Locations Guide here.
  • Retrieve every hidden Batarang in Gotham City

There are sixty hidden Batarangs hidden among the rooftops and alleyways of Gotham City, and despite giving off a nice glow, it can be really difficult to find all of them. But we did! Here is our Gotham Knights Batarang Locations Guide.
  • Complete 50 Challenges

There’s always several challenges to be completed, which include Case Files, collectibles, challenges from contacts, and more. You should complete 50 challenges pretty easily while working through this guide, but if not, make sure to visit contacts marked on your map and complete their challenges.
  • Acquire 50 Modchips via mod fusion

You’ll unlock tons of modchips as you play the game, from challenges, chests, and dropped by enemies. As you level up, the modchips you find will level up too, so use the older, obsolete chips to unlock this achievement. Go to your Gear, and then to Mods, and press triangle to open the Fuse Modchips menu. Combine four chips to make a new one, and continue doing this until you run out of chips. If the achievement doesn’t unlock, keep playing the game and completing challenges to unlock more chips, and just keep fusing until you earn the achievement.
  • Craft a complete set of Legendary equipment (Suit, Melee Weapon, Ranged Weapon)

Legendary equipment blueprints can be tough to find, but by the time you reach the end of the game (and this guide) you should have one for each of the three categories. Craft them and then equip them to unlock the achievement.

Unlocked very early on during the tutorial missions, when the game unlocks your first momentum ability for you.
  • Complete Case File 01: BATMAN'S LAST CASE

This is story related and cannot be missed.

The first Case File you’ll have, it serves as a sort of tutorial for what to expect from Gotham Knights. Progress through all four chapters to get the achievement.
  • Complete Case File 02: THE RABBIT HOLE

This is story related and cannot be missed.

After you’ve unlocked Loose Ends (15G), you’ll be able to begin the second case file. See it through to its conclusion to get the achievement.

This is story related and cannot be missed.

After you’ve unlocked Seeking Asylum (15G), you’ll be able to begin the final case file in the main story. See it through to its conclusion and defeat the final boss to get the achievement.
  • Uncover a new problem at S.T.A.R. Labs

After completing Case File 01, a new Case File labelled “?.? - Heist at S.T.A.R. Labs” will become available on your map.

Travel to the lab, fight off the Regulators hired by Mr. Freeze, and complete the level to unlock the achievement.
  • Investigate the disruption at Quartz Labs

Once you’ve unlocked To the Victor Go the Spoils (15G), you’ll find the FR01: Mr. Freeze Case File available to progress as a side quest. You’ll need to stop crimes committed by members of the Regulators gang armed with ice weapons out in the open world of Gotham to progress through 1.2 - Cold Front of the case file, unlocking 1.3 - Quartz Labs.

Unlike some of the other Case File missions, you can’t access this one from the open world. Instead, you’ll need to head back to the Belfry, and then launch the mission for the Case Files menu of the Batcomputer (aka your menu). Then it’s a simple case of progressing through Quartz Labs, fighting off goons, and completing the mission!
  • Keep your cool and survive the storm at Elliot Center

After finishing 1.3 - Quartz Labs and grabbing Quartzer Life Crisis (15G), you can launch 1.4 - Gotham City on Ice from the FR01: Mr. Freeze Case File at the Belfry. This is a fairly linear mission that takes you up a frozen Elliot Center, to a big boss battle with Mr. Freeze himself. Equip fire elemental damage if you can, and if the boss fight is giving you trouble, just lower the difficulty to Very Easy and sail through.
  • Put an inmate back behind Blackgate's bars

Once you’ve unlocked Snow Problem (30G), you’ll be tasked with interrogating Mr. Freeze’s goons in the open world, before taking out one of their strongholds and stopping a couple of robberies.

Once this is completed, you can go back to the Belfrey and launch 1.6 - Breakout At Blackgate from the FR01: Mr. Freeze Case File. Stop the breakout at Blackgate, fight Victor in a brand new icey boss fight, and put Victor back behind bars to unlock the achievement.
  • Visit an unlikely source at Blackgate Penitentiary

During 01: BATMAN'S LAST CASE, you’ll be tasked with meeting Harley Quinn at Blackgate Prison. Complete this mission to unlock the achievement.
  • Discover a sketchy self-help program in Gotham's streets

After unlocking Har, Har, Har, Very Funny (15G) and meeting Harley, begin the HQ01: Harley Quinn Case File and complete the first three tracked crimes on your map for this Case File to unlock the achievement.
  • Interrupt a presentation at the Monarch Theater

After unlocking Get ReQ'd (15G) and speaking to Alfred at the Belfry, you’ll be able to take on the 1.2 - Dr. Q At Monarch Theatre mission in the HQ01: Harley Quinn Case File. Like some of the other side missions, you can’t begin this from the open world of Gotham City. Instead, you’ll have to launch it from the Case Files section of the Batcomputer (aka your menu) while at the Belfry. Make your way through the theatre, take on three of the most tedious and frustrating boss fights ever designed (disarming some bombs in the process) and get to the end in one piece to unlock the achievement.
  • Go to Gotham City General Hospital after visiting hours

After beating the 1.2 - Dr. Q At Monarch Theatre mission and unlocking Working Hard or Harley Working? (15G), you’ll have to deal with a few crimes in the open world to complete 1.3 - Paging Dr. Q. Once you do, you can return to the Belfrey and launch 1.4 - Chaos in General from the HQ01: Harley Quinn file.

Fight some rioters, head into Gotham City General Hospital, and take down Harley in a boss fight to unlock the achievement.
  • Unearth a Villain who shouldn't be in Gotham City

As you progress through the game’s main story Case Files, you’ll be tasked with visiting Detective Montoya. Among other things, she’ll tell you that there have been reports of a faceless mugger attacking people.

One of these faceless muggers will turn up in the West End as a crime, with an orange upside down triangle icon. Defeat it, and it’ll melt away into… clay? Ok, we now know what iconic Batman villain is behind this! Find and defeat four more clay Mimics in the West End (they’ll have the same orange markers on your map) and you’ll unlock the achievement.
  • Crash a film set and anger the director

Continue through the CF01: Clayface Case File from Something in the Clay (15G), heading to Dixon Docks to finish 1.2 - Disturbance at Dixon Docks. Complete this mission to unlock the achievement.
  • Crack the case at Gotham Reservoir

After unlocking The Show Mud Go On (15G), you’ll be able to take on the 1.3 - Rumble at the Reservoir Case File in CF01: Clayface. Take on Clayface himself in a climatic battle at Gotham Reservoir to unlock the achievement.
  • Complete all Villain Case Files

To earn this achievement, you’ll need to complete the HQ01: Harley Quinn, CF01: Clayface, and FR01: Mr. Freeze Case Files. Refer to Universal Health Scare (30G), Rock and a Hard Place (30G) and Cooldown (15G) for more information.
  • Reach Knighthood with Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, or Red Hood

To unlock the Knighthood, you need to complete the Timed Strike training at the Belfry, stop ten premeditated crimes, and defeat three mini bosses.

Early in the game, this can be a bit of a pain, as the mini bosses can be rare to come by. However, by the time you’ve levelled up a few times and progressed through the story, every premeditated crime will have at least one mini boss, and even some of the small opportunity crimes will do too.

If you’re confused about how to find premeditated crimes, you need to fight criminals you find to discover information about premeditated crimes for the next night. If you don’t want to go back to the Belfry, however, you can interrogate informants out in the world to discover premeditated crimes happening tonight - when you scan a group of criminals, the informant will have a question mark over their head.

Once these three challenges are completed, return to the Belfry. Depending on your character, you’ll have to interact with a different area to unlock Knighthood - for Batgirl, it’s Batman’s cape on the shrine to the left of the Belfrey exit.
  • Unlock all Knighthood Abilities for any member of the Batman Family

Once you’ve completed Knighthood (15G), you’ll be able to unlock all of your Knighthood abilities. You’ll need around 11 Ability Points to unlock all of the abilities, but as long as you keep playing and levelling up, and investing your points specifically in Knighthood, you’ll unlock them all in no time. Do this for one character to unlock the achievement.
  • Defeat 45 League of Shadows Assassins and 30 Rocketeers

Once you progress far enough in the story, you’ll begin coming across enemies from The League of Shadows. Defeat enough of the Assassins and Rocketeers to unlock the achievement, seeking them out when you need to.
  • Defeat 10 Man-Bats in Gotham City

After unlocking Seeking Asylum (15G), Man-Bats will begin appearing randomly on rooftops in Gotham City. Find and defeat ten of them to unlock the achievement.
  • Defeat 40 Feral Talons, 25 Gladiator Talons, and 15 Hunter Talons

Once you progress far enough in the story, you’ll begin coming across enemies from The Court of Owls. The Talons in particular are particularly deadly - fight enough of these enemies to unlock the achievement, seeking them out where you need to.
  • Collect all missing pages from the mythical Historia Strigidae

Once you unlock Whispered Words (15G), you can start collecting the 42 missing pages of the Historia Strigidae, an old tell-all book about the Court of Owls. The first location is marked on your map, and once you've found that, you can collect the rest. They're a pain to find, even when following the symbols, but luckily, we've got our Gotham Knights Historia Strigidae Book Pages Locations Guide for you to follow.
  • Prevent 250 crimes in Gotham City

As you travel around Gotham City, you’ll find plenty of crimes happening around you, marked by white triangles on your map and compass, as well as premeditated crimes marked from clues gathered the night before. This is fairly simple, if long - just stop every crime that you see on your map, and keep going until you unlock the achievement.
  • Successfully stop all Premeditated Crimes in a single night

This one can be a little tricky, but stick with it. The best thing to do is to gather plenty of clues in a single night, fighting the smaller groups of criminals all around the map. Then return to the Belfry and see how many premeditated crimes have appeared on your map.

Head back out on patrol in Gotham, and focus on the named crimes highlighted on your map. Finishing them all should unlock the achievement, and this includes any Case File crimes that have also been marked on your map.

If the achievement doesn’t unlock, seek out informants at crimes of opportunity (the smaller crimes marked by white triangles) and interrogate them. If there’s still more premeditated crimes to be completed, they’ll appear on your map. Keep doing this until there’s no more crimes appearing on your map, and the achievement should unlock. If it doesn’t just try again another night.
