Introduction:
When Dead Space first released back in 2008, it was a survival horror revelation. The atmosphere was wonderfully tense and creepy, and the setting was grounded in the sort of industrial science fiction that had worked so wonderfully for the Alien franchise. As for the gameplay, Dead Space took all the best bits of Resident Evil 4, and combined them with a limb lopping mechanic, and lavishly gruesome enemies to dismember. It was excellent, and it spawned a similarly well-received sequel, but things eventually went off the rails with Dead Space 3, and it seemed the series might have been lost to the cold vacuum of space.

Luckily, EA has made us whole again by reviving the series, with a gorgeous remake of the first game. There’s a few differences from the original in the Dead Space remake, but otherwise it remains very faithful to the source material. As such, the achievement list remains mostly the same as well, although there are a few surprise additions, and possibly the need for an extra playthrough, as well. So get ready to enter the horrors of the USG Ishimura once again, and step into the heavy boots of Isaac Clarke, in Dead Space.

Walkthrough:
Ok, so, technically, you can get the 1000gs.png with only two playthroughs of the Dead Space remake. However, this would require you to play on the Impossible Difficulty (which is Hard Difficulty, but with permadeath) on your very first playthrough. Putting the difficult nature of it aside, it’s just not the most fun way to experience the game for the first time.

As such, you’ll really need a minimum of three playthroughs to get the full 1000gs.png. And in order to allow players to have a “normal” first playthrough of the game, this is the order that we recommend.

1 - Normal Playthrough:
This first playthrough can basically be approached however you like. If you want the “standard” experience, you can play through on Medium difficulty, with access to all of your weapons. Basically, approach the game how you would if you weren’t thinking too heavily about achievements.

We’d also recommend completing the three newly added sidequests, and backtracking to find all of the Schematics and Audio Logs on this playthrough as well, although these can be saved for New Game+ if you so choose.

You can even make a save file just before the “point of no return” at the end of Chapter 11, and come back to it after completing the game, in order to backtrack through the Ishimura and pick up everything that you left behind. However, you will need to collect as many Nodes as possible in this playthrough regardless, to make a good start on fully upgrading your weapons and suit, so we recommend fully exploring on this first playthrough.

It’s also worth pointing out that everything in Chapter 9 is fully missable, as this is the only area you can’t return to. This area includes a Schematic, some Nodes, and the Front Toward Enemy (10G) achievement. These can also be grabbed in the NG+ playthrough or even the Impossible playthrough, but it's best to grab them first-time around to put your mind at ease.

In the process of this first playthrough, you should end up getting the vast majority of the achievements.

2 - New Game+ Story Difficulty and Plasma Cutter Only:
Now, if you could start New Game+ on Impossible difficulty without having played through on Impossible before, then this would be our second and final playthrough. However, because that isn’t the case, there’s only three main goals for New Game+. Those are: collecting the new Marker Fragment collectibles (exclusive to NG+); fully upgrading your suit and weapons; and completing the game using only the plasma cutter.

Because of this, it’s actually best to do your New Game+ playthrough on Story difficulty. This difficulty setting makes enemies extremely easy to deal with, but, most importantly, it automatically regenerates Isaac’s health after an encounter. This is important, as it means that you can sell every health restoring item you pick up, earning credits to buy more Nodes from the in-game store. This is the best way to ensure that you have enough Nodes to fully upgrade everything at the workbench.

Additionally, putting the game on Story difficulty also makes a Plasma Cutter-only run very easy, and can cut a full playthrough of the game down to around 7-8 hours, possibly even shorter.

If you’d like, you could do the Plasma Cutter run on your first playthrough, or even save it for Impossible difficulty, but like we said before, this way ensures you get to tackle your first playthrough exactly how you want, and cuts down the time you spend on NG+. In this run, you’ll unlock the following achievements:

Trusted Contractor (50G)
One Gun (30G)
Maxed Out (150G)
Marked (10G)
Reunion (40G)

3 - Impossible Difficulty Playthrough:
Bloody hell. Not only does Impossible difficulty see enemies taking less damage, and Isaac taking more (just like hard mode), it also limits you to a single save file. And if you die? Well, say goodbye to that save file forever, you’ll have to start right from the beginning on Impossible Mode again.

It’s a tough old time, but there are some tricks and tips you can use to make things just a little easier.

The most important piece of advice we can give you is this - IF YOU DIE, PAUSE IMMEDIATELY. The moment that an enemy kills you and you hear Isaac flatlining, pause the game. Dead Space allows you to pause, even midway through a death animation, and the game won't have counted it as a death yet.. From here, choose to return to the main menu, and you should find that you can load up your Impossible save from the last save point once again. If you can pause and quit just before you die, even better, but if the worst happens, you should still be able to quickly quit out and not have this playthrough ruined - it worked for us during an infuriating accidental death in Chapter 12, so it should work for you as well.

You’ve got to be careful. You’ll want to save at basically every save point you see, and if a battle starts to get away from you, just immediately quit out. After two playthroughs, you should have a good idea of where Necromorphs spawn from, but if you do get ambushed and lose too much health, or use up too much ammunition, just quit and reset, ready to try again. Health and ammunition are at a premium on this difficulty setting, so you don’t want to end up in a situation where you can’t possibly win.

Speaking of ammunition being at a premium, you’re going to want to make heavy use of Stasis and Kinesis. Stasis can be great for freezing a group of enemies and simply running past them, especially in areas where you have a recharge station nearby, is hugely helpful to save on ammunition, with most enemies unable to follow you through closed doors into another room. Kinesis, meanwhile, is an ideal way to make the most of your surroundings, and save up your ammunition. Keep an eye out for poles or pipes on the wall with a slight blue glow at the end, which can be ripped out and used to pin necromorphs. Similarly, vents that are busted open by an enemy usable leave behind a fan blade, which can slice through arms and legs when fired with Kinesis. Since Kinesis is unlimited, and Stasis can be recharged for free, try to make upgrading these on your suit a priority when using Nodes at the Bench.

It’s not going to be easy, but by the time you finish an Impossible playthrough, you’ll have unlocked the final achievement.

Untouchable (120G)

Conclusion:
The Dead Space remake successfully revives a beloved survival horror franchise with gloriously gory aplomb. Nothing that made the original so good has been compromised, even with all the new additions. Bring on Dead Space 2!

  • Discover the Hunter's origins.

This achievement requires you to complete the new Premeditated Malpractice side-quest. This is a really cool little mission that confirms a theory on the origin of the Hunter that was only hinted at in prior games such as Dead Space Extraction. Once you begin the side-quest, it can be easily tracked and completed through the Missions tab of the RIG menu. It will even let you know if you have access to the area where you’ll find the next objective, or if you don’t.

All three of these new side quests can be completed at any point before the end of Chapter 11, when you hit the point of no return. You’ll be prompted at this point that you won’t be able to return to the USG Ishimura, so make sure that, before you accept this prompt, you head back into the Ishimura, create a save file, and complete all three side missions (see Whole Again (40G)  and Full Clearance (30G)  as well).

To start this side-quest, you’ll need to pick up the Hunter Tissue Sample from within Cryogenics - it’s on the floor in the central chamber where you froze the Hunter in the first place, and can be found immediately after freezing the near-immortal necromorph, right at the end of Chapter 5, as Chapter 6 begins. You can then track the rest of the mission through the Missions tab. This quest can be started as early as Chapter 6, and finished before the end of Chapter 11.
  • Pursue Nicole's investigation.

This achievement requires you to complete the new Scientific Methods side-quest. For fans of Dead Space, this quest is worth doing anyway, if only to flesh out the game’s story and characters further.

You’ll be prompted at this point that you won’t be able to return to the USG Ishimura, so make sure that, before you accept this prompt, you head back into the Ishimura, create a save file, and complete all three side missions (see Final Regeneration (40G)  and Full Clearance (30G)  as well).

To start this side-quest, you’ll need to head to Nicole Brennan’s office on the lower floor of the Main Lab in Medical. Listen to the audio recording on her desk to begin Scientific Methods, and then follow it through the Missions tab. This quest can be started as early as Chapter 2, and finished before the end of Chapter 11.
  • Complete the game on Medium difficulty or above.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Just start a new game (or New Game+) on Medium, Hard, or Impossible difficulty, and see it through to completion to get the achievement.
  • Complete the game in Impossible Mode.

Bloody hell. Not only does Impossible difficulty see enemies taking less damage, and Isaac taking more (just like hard mode), it also limits you to a single save file. And if you die? Well, say goodbye to that save file forever, you’ll have to start right from the beginning on Impossible Mode again.

Since Kinesis is unlimited, and Stasis can be recharged for free, try to make upgrading these on your suit a priority when using Nodes at the Bench.
  • Complete New Game Plus on any difficulty mode.

After beating the game for the first time, you can start a New Game+ playthrough, giving you access to all of your weapons, upgrades, and more, as well as a new suit, extra credits, and ten extra nodes. You can tackle this on any difficulty, even Story Mode, which we’d recommend if you’re trying to go for the 1000G - you can read our full roadmap further up.
  • Own every weapon in the game.

There are seven main weapons to be found in the Dead Space remake. While you’re likely to find all seven naturally on your playthrough, there are a couple that can be missed if you choose not to explore the side rooms. As such, here’s where you can find all of the weapons in Dead Space.
    1. Plasma Cutter - Found in the first chapter, required to progress and can’t be missed.
    2. Pulse Rifle - Found on a body in the Tram Station for Medical (Floor 4) near the beginning of Chapter 2
    3. Ripper - Found on the floor in the Machine Shop in Engineering (Floor 4) as you’re making your way to refuel the engines, in Chapter 3.
    4. Flamethrower - Found on a body encased in corruption on the wall in Engineering, next to a poster for the Flamethrower (Floor 5), on your way to manually ignite the engines in Chapter 3.
    5. Contact Beam - On the floor next to a body in the Records Office on the Bridge (Floor 2) in Chapter 4. This is the first weapon found in a side room, so technically can be missed.
    6. Line Gun - Also found in a side room, this time on the floor of Emergency Equipment Storage in Medical (Floor 4), found in Chapter 5.
    7. Force Gun - Your final weapon is the Force Gun, found in West Seedling Room A, in Hydroponics (Floor 2). It’s on the floor next to a body in a room that requires Level 2 security access, just north of the main elevator in the centre of the room with the ambient jungle sounds playing. Like the Contact Beam and the Line Gun, this can be missed.
Collecting all seven of these weapons will unlock the achievement.
  • Install every weapon upgrade.

The weapon upgrades in Dead Space can be purchased from the Store (normally for around 10,000-12,000 credits) and found around the world, in side rooms, on the main path, or in rooms that you’ll need to backtrack to with security clearance.

Each weapon has three upgrades available to find, meaning that you’ll need to collect a total of 21 weapon upgrades for this achievement.

One important detail is that weapon upgrades are physical items that take up room in your inventory, and won’t be installed into your weapon until you reach a bench with them in your inventory. Because of this, if you accidentally drop them or sell them, you won’t be able to get them again until a New Game+ run, which is less than ideal.
Reaching a bench with a weapon upgrade in your inventory will see it installed in your weapon automatically - you don’t need to actually use your nodes to activate the weapon upgrade in order to get this achievement, although you’ll end up doing that anyway in order to unlock the Maxed Out (150G) achievement.

    • Suspension Module - Cargo Bay, Hangar Cargo Tram Control, Floor 1 (Requires Master Security Override, see Full Clearance (30G))
  • Kill 30 enemies with the Pulse Rifle.

The Pulse Rifle will be one of your trustiest allies in both your first playthrough and your impossible playthrough, so you’ll likely unlock this automatically.

However, like all of the “Kill 30 enemies” achievements, this can be farmed pretty easily once you reach a Guardian enemy. These wall-mounted foes spit out smaller enemies that can be killed quickly and easily, so you can keep the Guardian alive and use your chosen weapon to kill the little tentacle blobs that it spawns.

A final option is to start a New Game+ on Story difficulty, starting from the beginning with all weapons available to you, and easily killing any enemies you come across with your weapon of choice to mop up the achievements.
  • Kill 30 enemies with the Flamethrower.

The Flamethrower is far stronger in the Dead Space remake than it was in the original, and is extremely useful for killing smaller enemies. Make good use of it, and you’ll unlock this achievement automatically on your playthrough.

Alternatively, you can make sure to shoot any bloated Pregnant necromorphs that you come across in the stomach with your Plasma Cutter or Pulse Rifle, unleashing lots of small Swarmer enemies. Quickly switch to the Flamethrower and use it to kill the Swarmers, quickly racking up kills.

A final option is to start a New Game+ on Story difficulty, starting from the beginning with all weapons available to you, and easily killing any enemies you come across with your weapon of choice to mop up the achievements.
  • Kill 30 enemies with the Ripper.

The Ripper is an extremely strong, ammo-efficient weapon to use against single necromorphs, so you’ll likely unlock this automatically as you play.

Alternatively, you can make sure to shoot any bloated Pregnant necromorphs that you come across in the stomach with your Plasma Cutter or Pulse Rifle, unleashing lots of small Swarmer enemies. Quickly switch to the Ripper and use it to kill the Swarmers, quickly racking up kills.

A final option is to start a New Game+ on Story difficulty, starting from the beginning with all weapons available to you, and easily killing any enemies you come across with your weapon of choice to mop up the achievements.
  • Pusher

    10

Kill 30 enemies with the Force Gun.

The Force Gun is extremely useful for stripping the flesh off of a necromorph, making it easier to cut off their limbs with other weapons. However, because of its usefulness as a “support” weapon, you might find that you don’t end up actually finishing off thirty enemies with the Force Gun in a single playthrough.

Because of this, one of the best ways to rack up kills with it is to utilise its AOE to quickly kill lots of smaller enemies. You can make sure to shoot any bloated Pregnant necromorphs that you come across in the stomach with your Plasma Cutter or Pulse Rifle, unleashing lots of small Swarmer enemies. Quickly switch to the Force Gun and use it to kill the Swarmers, quickly racking up kills with minimal ammo use.

Like all of the “Kill 30 enemies” achievements, this can be farmed once you reach a Guardian enemy. These wall-mounted foes spit out smaller enemies that can be killed quickly and easily, so you can keep the Guardian alive and use your chosen weapon to kill the little tentacle blobs that it spawns. However, given the Force Gun’s low ammunition count, using it to kill multiple Swarmers tends to be the more efficient way to farm this achievement.

A final option is to start a New Game+ on Story difficulty, starting from the beginning with all weapons available to you, and easily killing any enemies you come across with your weapon of choice to mop up the achievements.
  • Kill 30 enemies with the Line Gun.

The Line Gun is fantastic at lopping the legs off of your average necromorph, but because its ammunition can be hard to come by, and it’s best combined with other weapons, you won’t always get 30 finishing blows with the Line Gun in one playthrough.

The best method to get this is to use a weapon like the Plasma Cutter or Pulse Rifle to sever a necromorphs arms, before using the line gun to take out both of its legs at once, quickly killing it.

But given the rarity of Line Gun ammunition, this might not be the most efficient way to get the achievement.

A final option is to start a New Game+ on Story difficulty, starting from the beginning with all weapons available to you, and easily killing any enemies you come across with your weapon of choice to mop up the achievements.
  • Kill 30 enemies with the Contact Beam.

The Contact Beam is incredibly strong in the Dead Space remake, and able to quickly melt a necromorph, either using its primary fire, or its secondary fire. Because of this, we recommend using it frequently throughout the game, and this achievement should unlock automatically.

  • Beat the game using only the Plasma Cutter.

As per our Achievement Guide & Roadmap, we recommend doing this on Story or Easy difficulty, either as your first playthrough or as part of your New Game+ run, which should make things pretty easy.

One important tip for getting this achievement is to make sure that any other weapons you pick up are put into storage in the Store. If other weapons are in your inventory, you’ll end up picking up ammunition for them, even if you don’t equip them. Instead, if only the Plasma Cutter is in your inventory, you’ll almost only ever get Plasma Cutter ammunition, which is ideal. Also, putting your other weapons into storage ensures you don’t accidentally use them on your playthrough, which would stop you getting this achievement.

Of course, you’ll want to prioritise using your Nodes to upgrade your Plasma Cutter and your Suit, and make sure to find the Plasma Cutter weapon upgrades (see Built To Order (30G)). You’re also allowed to use Kinesis, Stasis, and stuff like the ADS Cannons, in combat. You just can’t use the Pulse Rifle, Ripper, Flamethrower, Contact Beam, Line Gun, or Force Gun.
  • Place 25 items in Storage.

At one of the in-game stores, you’ll need to move 25 items from your Inventory into Storage. You can’t just move one item back and forth 25 times, however. Instead, you need to have 25 items in storage at once.

Early in Dead Space, you’re unlikely to have 25 items to move over into storage. However, by the time you’ve collected all of your weapons, and upgraded your suit to level four or five, you should be a lot closer to being able to complete this.

If you’re following our Achievement Guide & Roadmap, then this is easiest done on your Story difficulty New Game+ run, since you can move any health items, Status packs, and O2 canisters straight into storage as soon as you get them. Keep doing this until you get the achievement, and then immediately sell them all, and spend the credits on more Nodes to upgrade your weapons.
  • Collect 75 Logs.

Story related and cannot be missed

While collecting 75 logs feels like a big task, doing a full playthrough of Dead Space will see this achievement unlocked automatically, even if you don’t collect any of the optional Text Logs or Audio Logs. That’s because this number includes the dozens of conversations between Isaac and other characters, which can’t be missed, and are automatically added to your log tracker.
  • Collect 150 Logs.

As per Story Teller (10G), over the course of playing Dead Space, you’ll automatically unlock at least 75 logs through story-related conversations and transmissions. This achievement does require you to find more of the optional logs, though, dotted around the USG Ishimura.

Audio Logs, Text Logs, and Security Recordings are often in plain sight, and if you’re careful to scour every room in the process of finding all of the Weapon Upgrades, Schematics, and completing the Side Missions (all of which you’ll need to do for other achievements) then you should easily find 150 logs by the end of Chapter 11.

If you’ve reached the end of the game and you haven’t unlocked this, then two sections in particular - Chapter 5 and Chapter 9- are worth looking out for.

Chapter 9 isn’t able to be revisited after you finish it, and it does hold a few optional logs, so you can revisit this on your New Game+ playthrough to find any stragglers.

Meanwhile, Chapter 5 sees you revisiting the Medical bay of the Ishimura, and it’s easy to miss that a lot of new logs have been dotted around this area since you last visited, especially once you start getting chased by the Hunter. If you feel like you’ve explored every area and haven’t gotten the achievement, it’s worth going back to Medical and revisiting areas where you were previously being chased by the Hunter.

Additionally, some of the logs are tied to the Side Missions, so make sure you’ve completed all three of those as well.
We’ll have a more in-depth guide incoming for the location of each log soon, but rest assured if you explore each side room in the Ishimura, you shouldn’t have a problem getting this achievement. There’s more than 150 logs to find in the game, meaning you don’t have to find them all to get the achievement.
  • Collect all Schematics.

    MISSABLE

There are thirteen Schematics to be found in Dead Space, each one unlocking a new item available to purchase in the Store. These range from ammo, to suit upgrades, and health items, so it’s worth tracking these down.
These can be found all across the USG Ishimura, and can be left for a New Game+ playthrough, if you’d like. However, the Large Med Pack is actually missable, since it’s found on the USM Valor in Chapter 9, which you can’t return to. So make sure not to miss it across your three playthroughs.

    • Oxygen Tank - Platform Storage, Engineering, Floor 4 (Requires Security Clearance 2)
    • Medium Med Pack - Room South of Decontamination Room, Engineering, Floor 2 (Chapter 3 onwards)
    • Large Med Pack - Infirmary, USM Valour, Floor 1 (Chapter 9, CAN BE MISSED)
  • Dismember 50 Limbs.

If you don’t get this achievement, then you’re obviously playing Dead Space wrong. Cut off their limbs! You should find you get this within the first hour or two.
  • Dismember 500 Limbs.

As long as you engage in Dead Space’s combat, aiming to cut off Necromorph limbs, rather than aiming for the head or torso, you should easily get this achievement before you finish the game. We’d be absolutely shocked if you don’t get this achievement during your first playthrough, but on the off chance that you don’t, make sure you are accurate with your Plasma Cutter in your New Game+ playthrough, and chop off as many limbs as you can until it unlocks.
  • Rip off a dangling limb using Kinesis.

This achievement is a bit of a pain, and can be a little hit-or-miss. The easiest way we’ve found to get it is after obtaining the Force Gun. Wait until you’re one-on-one with a necromorph, and use the Force Gun once, up close, to strip them down to the bare bone. Then, try to use Kinesis on the Necromorph. If nothing happens, shoot at one of its legs with the Plasma Cutter to weaken the limb further, and try Kinesis again. Continue this approach until either a) Kinesis does actually manage to pull off a limb, and the achievement pops, or b) the Necromorph dies, oops!

This can be difficult to get, as it seems to require a limb to be severely weakened, but not yet dismembered, and it’s difficult to find the right balance. That’s why the Force Gun makes this much easier, but not quite bullet proof. It’s doable though - we managed it within just a few minutes of getting the Force Gun, after multiple failed attempts before that.
  • Pin an enemy.

To get this achievement, you’ll need to use Kinesis to grab a pole or spike (marked with a glowing blue ring on the end) and launch it into a Necromorph, so that it’s pinned to the wall. The easiest place to get this is near the beginning of Chapter 2, as you enter the top floor of the Main Lab. Here you’ll get a little tutorial prompt telling you that you can throw items at enemies, and there’s loads of poles around you to pick up. Two Necromorphs will spawn (one behind you, one in front) shortly after you enter, so grab a spike, and chuck it at one, and the achievement should pop.
  • Freeze

    10

    Use Stasis on 50 enemies.

Stasis is such an important tool to use in Dead Space. Slowing down enemies makes it far easier to aim shots, carefully dismembering limbs, and it gives you a bit of breathing room if you’re pinned down as well. You should get this on a first playthrough, but if you don’t, start your New Game+ run and use Stasis as often as you can on enemies. You don’t even need to kill them, you can just Stasis them, wait for it to wear off, and then hit them with Stasis again. Make a conscious effort to use Stasis as often as possible on your foes, and you’ll quickly get this achievement.
  • Kill 10 enemies with a stomp attack.

Do not waste your time trying to stomp full-sized necromorphs for this achievement, as you’ll end up taking way too much damage, and there’s a much easier way to get this.

In Chapter 5, when you’re re-exploring Medical, you’ll come across your first Guardian enemy in Imaging Diagnostics. These foes cling to the walls, with tentacles that you need to shoot off. The important part, however, is that they spit out smaller enemies, which are easily dispatched in a single stomp.

When coming across a Guardian, either here or later in the game, you can avoid shooting them, baiting them to fire out the smaller enemies (little blobs with a single tentacle). Run over to each one and stomp them, and repeat this ten times, to easily get the achievement.
  • Fully upgrade all weapons and equipment.

There is basically no way to do this on a single playthrough of Dead Space. Luckily, we already need to do a New Game+ playthrough to get the Trusted Contractor (50G) achievement, but it’s still not totally assured, so here is our best advice on how to approach this.

Firstly, you’re going to want to keep your eyes peeled for as many Nodes as you can find. They are typically found in side rooms, down dead end corridors, or in rooms that you can backtrack to when you get a higher security clearance. They are also dropped by defeated Brutes, and unlocked when you install a weapon upgrade at the Bench (see Built To Order (30G)).

As per our Achievement Guide & Roadmap, the best way to approach this is to collect as many Nodes as you can on your first, normal playthrough, as well as the weapon upgrades and suit upgrades.

Then, when you start a New Game+ playthrough, pick Story difficulty, and only use the Plasma Cutter. Make sure to buy the Level 6 suit ASAP (you’ll need this to be able to fully upgrade it) and then spend literally any excess money you have on Nodes from the store.

Because of the ease with which you’re dispatching enemies, and Isaac’s auto-generating health, you can sell any excess health items, stasis packs, O2 canisters, and even ammunition, at the Store, to raise more sweet credits to spend on Nodes. Additionally, make sure to pick up every Node you find along the way. Even without any late game backtracking, you should be able to fully upgrade all of your weapons and your suit by Chapter 10 of NG+. If you don’t, there’s still more Nodes to be found by using the Master Security Override, and a few in Chapter 12 down on Aegis VII as well. Just keep selling things and buying Nodes until you’ve upgraded everything.

Secret achievements

  • Survive the Shooting Gallery.

    MISSABLE

One of the few truly missable achievements in the Dead Space remake, although, if you’re attempting three full playthroughs, there’s plenty of chances to pick it up. The shooting gallery is found on the USM Valor, during Chapter 9. The reason this achievement is missable is because it's in an area you won’t be able to return to once the chapter closes, but it’s really no bother.

Once on the USM Valor, make sure to dive into the Shooting Range, on the way to the Infirmary. Here, you can start up the shooting range, but you don’t need to take any shots. Instead, after a brief period of time, you’ll be attacked by multiple necromorphs. Simply defeat them all, and you’ll get the achievement, as well as access to all of the previously-locked lockers on the side.
  • Complete Level 6 in Zero-G Basketball.

You’ll find the Zero-G basketball court near the beginning of Chapter 10, in the Crew Quarters. You’ll need to enter the court regardless, in order to grab a battery, but you’ll want to stick around to get this achievement.

The first time you start Zero-G Basketball, you’ll get attacked by necromorphs, so don’t worry about properly playing this time. Once the necromorphs are defeated, restart the Zero-G basketball session, and attempt to complete Level 6.

The best way to do this is to float in Zero-G yourself near the middle of the room, making sure you have a good visual of all three pipes where the basketball can be ejected from, even when aiming your weapon. When the basketball is ejected, quickly grab it with Kinesis, and fire it into one of the four coloured rings.

Speed is of the essence here, as you’ll want to get points as quickly as possible. But you’ll also want to keep an eye on the four different coloured rings. After Level 1, you should notice that certain rings sometimes light up, normally after every other shot. Aim for these lit rings to get ten points, rather than five. Also, as you go up the levels, some of the rings will be covered up, so aim at the open rings instead.

The reason we recommend floating in Zero-G, rather than standing on the court, is that it’s easier to aim more precisely using both the right stick for your camera, and the left stick to strafe left, right, up, and down. You might not get this on your first go, but it’s easy enough once you get the hang of it. Get a total of 220 points to complete Level 6 and get the achievement.
  • Find the Peng Treasure.

The Peng Treasure was found in the original Dead Space game, and it returns for the remake, although it’s no longer found in the same location.

You’ll find the Peng Treasure in Chapter 11, in the cargo hangar where the Red Marker is being held. Your objective at this point is to “Engage the Cargo Crane”. However, look around where the lift you came down is, and you’ll see a bunch of boxes in front of some lockers, and a dead body as well. There’s a nice big PENG poster next to it, in case you needed any more hints. Move the boxes and the body, open the lockers, and you’ll find the treasure inside. Not only will you get the achievement, but you can also sell the Peng Treasure for a whopping 30,000 credits, which will help with other achievements such as Maxed Out (150G)  and Full Arsenal (10G).
  • Create the Master Security Override.

This achievement requires you to complete the new You Are Not Authorized side-quest. This is absolutely essential to complete if you want to get every achievement, since some weapon upgrades are hidden behind Master Security Override doors and chests.

You’ll be prompted at this point that you won’t be able to return to the USG Ishimura, so make sure that, before you accept this prompt, you head back into the Ishimura, create a save file, and complete all three side missions (see Whole Again (40G) and Final Regeneration (40G) as well).

To start this side-quest, you’ll have to interact with the screen on the right hand side of the Captain’s Nest, just below the Main Atrium of the Bridge. You can then track the rest of the mission through the Missions tab, with several RIGs that need to be collected and returned to this location to form the Master Security Override. This quest can be started as early as Chapter 4, and finished before the end of Chapter 11.

The mission tracker will show you when each RIG is available to find, although the RIG found in Engineering will show as available, even before you have Level 3 security clearance, which is needed to enter the room where it’s found. The rest can all be found and tracked when the Mission’s tab shows them as green, rather than red.
  • Kill a Brute.

Story related and cannot be missed

You’ll meet your first Brute near the beginning of Chapter 4. Despite their intimidating size, killing these guys is actually pretty easy. You just need to hit them with Stasis in order to slow them down, then run around behind them, and shoot the glowing pus sacks on their backs. Rinse and repeat until the Brute is dead, and make sure to pick up the Node that they drop.
  • Kill the Leviathan.

Story related and cannot be missed

The Leviathan boss fight arrives at the end of Chapter 6. This Zero-G fight isn’t too difficult as long as you keep moving left and right to avoid the tentacles (click in the left stick to speed up your flight a bit), and make use of the Plasma Cutter or Pulse Rifle on its big glowing pus sacks. Once the tentacles are dealt with, keep shooting the glowy bit in its big mouth when it opens, firing back the pus balls that it spits at you with Kinesis.
  • Kill the Leviathan Remnant.

Story related and cannot be missed

The Leviathan Remnant is the second major boss fight of the game, found at the end of Chapter 8, but proves a fair bit easier than your earlier fight against it. There are three ADS Cannons on the exterior of the ship, which you’ll need to interact with, and then use to fire on the Leviathan's glowing weak spots. Once you’ve done enough damage, the Leviathan will destroy that ADS Cannon, and you’ll have to move onto the next one.

This fight takes place in a vacuum, so keep an eye on the O2 Tanks - there’s two at the airlock where you came from, and one on either end by the ADS Cannons as well. Occasionally, it’ll shoot big fleshy sea mines, which are fairly easy to avoid. Once all three ADS Cannons are busted, you’ll just need to take a few shots with your own weapon - either the Plasma Cutter or Pulse Rifle is best - to finally finish it off.
  • Kill the Hive Mind.

Story related and cannot be missed

The final boss in the game, the Hive Mind has unfortunately not been significantly improved from its original outing back in 2008. As such, this proves a fairly easy, if monotonous boss fight, split into three main phases.

The first phase will have you shooting at the five weak spots around the Hive Mind’s mouth, while avoiding its tentacle attacks. This is a simple case of strafing right when it lifts its tentacle to attack to your left, and then vice versa, until you’ll hit all the weak spots. After this, a wave of Necromorphs will be summoned, but you’ve been dealing with them all game, so you know what to do.

The next phase sees the Hive Mind firing acid that stays on the field, making strafing to avoid the tentacles just a tad harder. Try to bait the hive mind into firing its acid on either the far left or far right, which gives you more room to work with, and shoot at one of the five weak points when it opens up. Do this five times and the boss will be nearly down.

Finally, the Hive Mind will pick you up, and you’ll need to shoot the final weak point. One shot will do it, but it’s surprisingly tough, given the weird camera angle that you’re given. The contact beam is a good choice here, with its consistent damage and big laser beam making it easier to track the weak spot.

Take it down, and the achievement is yours. Congratulations!
  • Marked

Pick up a Marker fragment for the first time.

Marker Fragments are a brand new collectible in the Dead Space remake, exclusively found in a New Game+ playthrough. You’ll need to collect all thirteen of them to see the new alternative ending and unlock the Reunion (40G) achievement, but you’ll only need one Marker Fragment for this particular achievement. You can check out our full Dead Space Marker Fragment guide here.
  • See the alternative ending on any difficulty mode.

The Dead Space remake adds in a brand new alternative ending to the game, but you’ll only be able to see it on a New Game+ playthrough. And even then, you’ll need to find twelve new Marker Fragment collectibles, which also only appear during a New Game+ playthrough.

You can see our full Dead Space Marker Fragment guide here.

Once you’ve found all twelve Marker Fragments on a New Game+ playthrough, you’ll need to return to the Executive Quarters on the Crew Deck before you reach the end of Chapter 11. Enter the office of Lt. Commander V. Holt, and then interact with the candlelit table, placing each Marker Fragment on the twelve pedestals.

Once you’ve done this, you can continue back to the main story and start Chapter 12, and once you complete the game, you’ll be able to watch the new alternative ending for yourself. Oh, and you’ll get the achievement too, of course.
