Introduction:
From developer Tango Gameworks, the makers of The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo is essentially a supernatural first-person shooter. Fused with ghostly investigator KK, protagonist Akito embarks upon a mission to rescue his sister from the clutches of the mysterious masked Hannya, whose unhinged plan is to connect the real world and the underworld.
Using your elemental gust, water and fire powers, you'll fend off malevolent enemies known as Visitors. Blasting away at macabre foes will expose their spirit cores, which you can then forcibly tug out. You'll need to do this in a few different ways while going for the 1000G, while exploring every square inch of Tokyo absorbing spirits using a katashiro paper doll, tracking down Jizo statues, hidden tanuki, and a myriad of other collectibles. Offerings to prayer boxes and using prayer beads (find out how to get the most useful ones here) will help you find collectibles, and you'll be able to track most of these via the Database tab in the menu. Fortunately, there are no missable achievements either, which is nice.
Step 1: Tackle the game's main and side missions, absorbing any spirits you find along the way
You can work towards maxing out your skills and Synergy Level, but this isn't entirely necessary for your first playthrough. You can always complete the game and then come back to your completed save data, which puts you back to the point of no return during Chapter 4. Keep your eyes peeled for random Hyakki Yako events, usually mentioned by KK in dialogue as a 'parade' of Visitors. You can enter these to fight enemies and acquire additional spirits. We found a Hyakki Yako event at the Shibuya Crossing Landmark (down one of the foggy side streets), so it's worth checking here once in a while to see if/when it appears.
It's worth noting that upon finishing the story, you'll acquire the Transmission Beads, enabling you to instantly transfer spirits upon absorbing them, negating the need to visit a payphone. This will save you a lot of time, especially as absorbing all 240,300 spirits can become a chore. What else that can make the game a breeze is collecting all the best prayer beads, the locations of which can be found here.
Step 2: Use the Spirit Perception beads with Spectral Vision to find the last remaining spirits, then be sure to transfer them all to acquire the 100% total.
If you're missing a few spirits, you can use the map screen to hover over torii gates, which shows your progress in each region. Bear in mind that some spirits can only be extracted from corruption trees, Hyakki Yako events, Containment Cubes, or certain missions. It's then a case of mopping up any collectibles, be it magatama from relic-hunting nekomata vendors or yokai; completing any leftover side missions; cleansing any torii gates you may have missed; and tracking down any tanuki or Jizo statues you've yet to discover. Also, look out for any Visitor types you may have yet to dispatch, and try taking them down in different ways (headshots, Quick Purge stealth attacks, using talismans etc.) to work towards various achievements, like performing 200 Quick Purges, or taking out ten enemies using a Stun Talisman, for instance. If you decide to transmit 100% of the spirits and complete the game, you'll be awarded the Tireless Beads and Shadow Beads, the former granting infinite SP, Talismans, and Arrows, while the latter turns you invisible. This will make the rest of the game an absolute breeze.
Step 3: Finish the game for a second time
Finish the game for a second time (beating only Chapters 5 and 6 using a completed save game that puts you back to the final mission of Chapter 4) having deposited 100% spirits, if you haven't already, and/or set about on a final clean up run around the city. Finish up any achievements related to combat milestones you may not have done yet, or the one where you need to stare at the moon for 30 seconds. Unlock every skill, max out your Synergy Level (there are tips on how best to do that here), and purchase all of the outfits, music, and food items from nekomata vendors (find out how to farm meika here), if you haven't already and you'll be all done then. Good luck out there!
