Introduction:
Welcome to RoboCop: Rogue City, a first person shooter where you take on the role of RoboCop at a time when the entire city is in chaos and gangs are running amok thanks to a New Guy In Town who's looking for somewhere to spend all of his money. This game and its layout/progression reminded me a lot of Deus Ex with how the missions work. Basically, you get sent out to a new area to complete a new main mission. These are quite long, and along the way in that area, you'll encounter various opportunities for side missions that are isolated to that area. After each main mission, you return to the Police Department, which acts as a hub area. Unlike Deus Ex, there are no stealth options in this game (considering you're a hulking robot), but there are dialogue options that you can use to your advantage, adding some role-playing aspects to this game. Achievement-wise, there are a bunch of story achievements, but the rest are essentially chapter-specific achievements, with only a few being random miscellaneous achievements. It's a relatively easy list. Let's get started.
Note on Skill Point Allocation:
While there are technically no missable achievements, there are a few tied to skill point allocation that you should be aware of so you can plan accordingly.
- May Be Used Against You (15G) requires you to hack a turret. There are only two opportunities to do this, and they're both in late-game main missions. To do so, you need 6 skill points in Engineering. Personally, I found this to be a good investment anyway, because increasing Engineering made the chips installed on the motherboard give higher increases to each stat. However, if you for some reason don't want to spend skill points here, make sure you have enough saved up by the time you reach the main mission "Cyber Trail," as that's the first and easiest place to get that achievement.
- Practice Makes Perfect (30G) requires you to max out any stat with 10 skill points. Even if you did ever single thing in the game, you would get around 70 skill points total, although most people will likely fall in the 40-50 range. With ten different stats available, you could potentially spend your skill points in such a way that they're distributed evenly and none is maxed. Keep this in mind. If you do prefer to spread evenly, just save up a handful of skill points, spend them to max a skill, then pause and reload your last checkpoint to get your points back. I should note that for most people, this will happen naturally. I personally maxed out Combat, Armor, Vitality, and Engineering to maximize my damage output and my ability to tank damage.
- There Can Only Be One (30G) doesn't directly require any skill point allocation, but especially if you're playing on any difficulty other than Easy, this achievement can be tough. This achievement takes place around two thirds of the way through the game, and sees you fighting off waves of robot enemies that not only can do a lot of damage but take a lot of damage to destroy. Personally, I had Combat and Armor at 8/10 skill points each, plus 6/10 in Engineering, and I had no problems defeating enemies fast enough, but I was still using Recovery Charges regularly to stay alive. If you get to that point and, for example, have spent most of your skill points on things like Focus, Perception, Deduction, etc., they won't help in that battle, and you'll likely find yourself struggling immensely with that battle at all, let alone the achievement. Keep this is mind as you allocate skill points throughout your playthrough.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
As noted above, this game has a ton of miscellaneous and/or chapter-specific achievements. That's the main thing to be aware of as you progress. Before that though, a couple things to point out relative to the gameplay and such:
- There are actually no achievements tied to any side missions, and they aren't required for any achievements. The only benefit of doing side missions is that they give you a pretty pathetic amount of XP, but then count toward more XP at the conclusion of each main mission when your performance is reviewed. Therefore, you can feel free to skip most side missions if you just want this completion
- Similarly, there are a ton of pickups throughout the game that count as "crime evidence," such as Incriminating Photos, Nuke, Stolen Wallet/Jewelry/Handbag, etc. These things all pop up with some amount they reward you with, but this is NOT XP, unfortunately/annoyingly. I'm not entirely sure what those points are or whatever it is that pops up when you pick these up, but all these seem to do is contribute to your evalution at the end of each main mission, where you'll get extra XP for crime evidence you've collected. It seemed to me that, no matter how much crime evidence I collected, the most I could get was 500 XP. So, again, if you're not worried about getting tons of XP, you can ignore all these little pickups that are all over the place. I definitely don't recommend wasting time seeking them out, but grab them if you see them for some easy extra XP at the end of a mission
- There are another type of collectiles that do give you XP outright. These are things such as papers and documents that you can scan or read. These aren't required for any achievements, but they do at least give you immediate XP
On to the miscellaneous achievements. Here's a rundown of what to get in which chapter, and in what order:
Breaking News (first mission/tutorial)
Zip This Up (10G) (first of endless opportunities)
Strikeout! (15G) (first of many opportunities)
Officer of the month (30G) (first and easiest opportunity
Police Station (first visit, but will visit between every main mission)
Dead-On (15G), "This Guy Is Really Good" (30G), and SuperCop (90G) (first opportunity, but I don't recommend doing it until after the third main mission, "Street Vulture's Turf"
In Search of Soot/Soot's Final Encore (second mission consisting of two main quests)
Uphold the Law (15G)
Hard Boiled (30G)
I'd Buy That For a Dollar! (15G)
No stone unturned (15G)
Nukem! (15G) (first and easy opportunity)
Street Vulture's Turf (third mission)
Live by the bike... (15G)
Good eyes, Murphy! (30G)
- No achievements for multiple main missions here -
Silver Linings/ Let's Talk (around four main missions later)
There Can Only Be One (30G)
Cyber Trail/The Man Himself (multi-part main mission)
A Real Hero (15G)
May Be Used Against You (15G)
Hard Boiled (30G) (second opportunity)
By the time you get to the "The Man Himself" main mission, you should be done with all miscellaneous achievements and just have story ones left. If you missed any, you can load into chapters from the main menu to mop up whatever you missed.
Conclusion:
RoboCop has a surprising amount of content. The achievements don't reflect this, since you can blow through the entire game without paying attention to any side missions, secrets, hidden areas, optional objectives, etc., but you'd be doing yourself a disservice in ignoring all of that. There are tons of side stories to follow along with, any many tie into results in the main missions. You also can get multiple different ending cutscenes depending on who you supported, who you became friends with, etc. While it starts off feeling like a relatively generic FPS game, it quickly turns into a really enjoyable experience with tons of RPG elements. There's way more to do here than what this guide provides, so I encourage you to explore all there is. Congrats on the completion!
