Introduction:
Skull and Bones is here, after a protracted and much-delayed development time. The game started life as an offshoot of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and it has slowly morphed into what it is now: a live-service pirate sailing adventure. There is a storyline here, but the game can only be played online. The game isn’t all that interesting, to be honest, but, in terms of an achievement list, what we have here is pretty varied and – on the whole – pretty easy to unlock, though there are one or two achievements that will keep you going for the long haul. Without further ado, let’s jump in!
Step 1 – Sail around the world:
This sounds like a strange first step, but it will help your progress through the game greatly, and it will also help you to unlock several achievements. It’s a good idea, when you first start Skull and Bones, to sail around far and wide. That way, you defog the map and open up loads of fast-travel points, making your progress through the game a lot faster and easier.
You don’t need to have a particular direction in mind, but you need to head west, to the Coast of Africa, and you need to head east to the East Indies. In doing this, you will add a lot of mileage to Magellan (70G), which tasks you with racking up 1,000,000 meters sailed. If, on your travels, you stop to harvest materials such as metals, fibers, and wood, then you can unlock Metal Collector (15G), Fiber Collector (15G), and Wood Collector (15G).
You can also go after targetted achievements such as Home of Compagnie Royale (15G), Coast of Africa Explorer (15G), Home of Clan of Fara (15G), Red Isle Explorer (15G), East Indies Explorer (15G). These all have you exploring the zones within regions, and also spyglassing or interacting with key locations. The Explorer (15G) has you activating a pirate bonfire at three different locations. This helps you sail more quickly anyway, so it's easily done during this phase. Also in that vein, Home of Sea People (15G), Home of Confederation of Ungwana (15G), Home of Dutch Merchant Company (15G) all have you seeking out and finding key locations.
Step 2 – Play through the main campaign:
Going through the main story will, of course, unlock you the story-related achievements, which are rewarded for basic progression. These include Banished Admiral (15G), Ship Captain (15G), Mainland Pirate (15G), Turtle Up! (15G), and Just Business (15G).
Also, while you are playing through the main story, you will be a lot quicker, because you have already unlocked all of that map, and now you can zip about the place a lot quicker using fast-travel. Though, you do have to pay for fast travel each time you use it, and depending on how far you want to go you need to pay more silver. In going through the main campaign, there are also a number of achievements that you will likely unlock in the course of your journey. The People's Person (15G) has you talking to 20 NPCs. The Poacher (30G) has you hunting down one hostile animal. And Battle Royale (15G) has you defeating five ships in the Open Seas region.
Step 3 – Endgame and multiplayer achievements:
The last phase is where you can mop up any achievements that you haven’t unlocked in the previous phases. At this point, you will have greatly contributed toward some of the more passive achievements, such as Magellan (70G), When We Raid, It Pours (30G), and Skull and Jute (15G).
You can also go after some of the more focussed multiplayer achievements, such as It's More Fun Together! (30G), Pirates, Assemble! (15G), and First Come, First Served (30G). Now, during this part of the game, you can choose to go after some of the more strange and niche achievements. Lots of these can be unlocked at any part of your playthrough, as they are quite easy and don't require high stats. Achievements such as Lunar Effect (15G), After a Long Day of Sailing (15G), The Silencer (30G), Why Fight When We Can Negotiate? (15G), and Rags to Riches (15G) all fit this kind of focussed achievement-hunting.
At this final point in the playthrough, you will also have unlocked But You Have Heard of Me (30G), as your infamy will be either at Cutthroat or Kingpin 1. While you’re in the endgame, you can stick it out to unlock Magellan (70G) and When We Raid, It Pours (30G). At this point, with all of the long-game achievements unlocks, and all your achievement-specific hunting out of the way, you’re looking at a fairly easy 1000

Conclusion:
And there we have it. Not a particularly difficult list, with some variety, and some achievements that just require longevity. Skull and Bones is a dull exercise in checklist progression, spiced here and there with some impressive sailing.
