Introduction:
Welcome to South Park: Snow Day! This game marks a significant departure from the previous two South Park games, which were both 2.5D turn-based RPGs. This game takes a format similar to Hades, which you can tell is what the developers were playing at the time when they thought up this game. However, this game is broken into five separate chapters rather than one continuous playthrough that Hades and other roguelite games use. Similar to those game thoughs is that you'll get various perks and upgrades specific to your current run, but those are random and will vary run to run. You'll also get a currency to use on permanent perks between runs, just like a true roguelite. The combat is pretty simplistic but isn't a walk in the park. The achievements only consist of a few story related ones. Most are combat or situational miscellaneous achievements that get you to do and experience various powers and weapons in the game. Let's get started.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
This game consists of five independent chapters rather than one continuous playthrough like other roguelite games, but each chapter will take upwards of an hour on your first playthrough. Explore and look around for the shimmering breakable containers, breaking them to get Toilet Paper (TP), Dark Matter (DM), or health. The more thorough you are, the easier your playthrough will be. A quick note on the currencies:
- Toilet Paper (TP) is for the current chapter only. When you beat the boss and return to Kupa Keep, you lose all TP. There is therefore no point to saving it up. Utilize TP to upgrade cards each time you get one from Jimmy. If you can afford it, always upgrade a card before you pick it. There's no point in saving up all that TP only to never use it.
- Dark Matter (DM) is for upgrading permanently between runs. Dark Matter is either gotten from breakable containers or chests, where it kind of looks like coffee thermoses, or from black puddles on the ground that you can absorb with
when given the prompt (those puddles are really rare). Back at Kupa Keep between runs, you can interact with the port-o-potty to spend DM on upgrades. Personally, I spent all of mine on the "left" path from the center, which is the path to increase ranged damage, melee damage, and Pissed Off meter, but you can cater it to however you want
- Platinum Points (PP) are rewards from completing various ingame challenges (such as those are correspond to achievements). These are used only for buying cosmetics from the Bazaar in Kupa Keep and are NOT needed for any achievements. Feel free to completing ignore PP and the Bazaar if you're just going for achievements
As you progress, spend your TP on upgrading cards that you want so they're as strong as possible, making things easier on you, and don't forget to spend DM between chapters to make the following chapters more manageable. As you're working your way through chapters, there are a bunch of miscellaneous achievements you can work on to save time and make things more efficient, saving mop up time. Here is a list of general things to keep an eye out for.
Look for the following Bullshit cards at the start of each chapter:
- Moon Jump - I found this largely useless, but the achievement Mooncrash (20G) is tied to it and is really easy to get as long as you try for it. Take an opportunity to do so when that Bullshit card presents itself
- Invisibility - another card that I found not very useful, but No Tears Now, Only Dreams (20G) requires you to finish off a boss with a melee attack while invisible. It's a bit of a pain, but worth getting it out of the way if you can manage
- On the flip side, look out for the Vampires Bullshit card from your opponents. You need to kill 10 Vampires for Van Helsing (20G) and it only counts if you kill them, not if your NPC allies do so. So, make sure if your enemy uses the Vampires Bullshit card, you beeline toward the Vampires and kill them yourself. It'll cut down on replays and grinding later
- Fart Escape - there are two easy achievements you can get with this ability: The Green Seas (20G) for grossing out four enemies at once, which is really easy to do (just use the ability when four little enemies are around you), and then Put the Ass in Assassin (20G), which needs to be used on the enemies that turn invisible a cumulative total of three times
- Healing Totem - one achievement, Powdered Cheese Bath (20G), for this power, and it's really easy to get during a boss fight. You'll likely be taking this power with you on every run though
- Gravity Bomb - I found this power pretty useless, so I don't recommend actually using it. It's really easy to grab I'll Do It Myself (20G) right at the start of any run, rather than trying to make due with this power throughout a whole run
- Cheesing - the two achievements tied to this power are The Escher of Necromancy (20G) and Middle Management (20G), both of which must be done on Chapter 4. Bring Cheesing power with you on that chapter and try to get both if possible so save yourself from another run of Chapter 4
- Chapter 1 - Powdered Cheese Bath (20G) and The Green Seas (20G) should be gotten in this chapter since they're your only two available powers. You can also work on (and unlock) Death From Above (20G) in this chapter since the enemies are weaker. Might as well take care of Grave Dancing (20G) the first time your allies go down too. Lastly, this is a good time to get Tap That Maple Syrup (20G) since Ents only show up in Chapter 1 and Chapter 4, and you need to be using the Twin Daggers to get it
- Chapter 2 - choose Fart Escape again as a power, and use it to get Put the Ass in Assassin (20G) in this chapter. Nothing else specific to this chapter
- Chapter 3 - you'll get two story achievements in this chapter, but other than that, no chapter-specific achievements here
- Chapter 4 - this is where Necros are for the first time, so choose Cheesing as one of your abilities so you can try for both Middle Management (20G) and The Escher of Necromancy (20G). You should also have unlocked the Wand by now, so choose it (since it's way better than the other two ranged weapons), and then you can try to unlock Fields of Flame (20G). Lastly, during the boss fight at the end of the chapter, make sure to unlock Know Thy Enemy (70G)
- Chapter 5 - right at the beginning is a great place to get cannonball kills for Pirate Ship, Please! (30G). Other than that, make sure to get Clean Underwear (70G) during the final boss fight

After beating the game, you get access to Nichole and her Infernal Pacts, making it possible to unlock A New Rule (20G) and Hardcore (30G). This is quite easy to do, and I recommend doing it on Chapter 5 to make it as quick and simple as possible. Refer to Hardcore (30G) for more information on how to quickly get both of those achievements, which may sound hard but they aren't really.
Now that all of those achievements are done, you likely still have some mop-up to do. Refer to the guide for whatever miscellaneous achievements you still have left to see the quickest and easiest ways to knock them out.
Lastly is Marshpooper (70G), which is technically the hardest achievement in the game. I recommend saving it for last because, by the time you complete all other achievements, you'll both be much better at the game but also have unlocked lots of Dark Matter perks in the hub to make you stronger. Refer to Marshpooper (70G) for tips on how to make that achievement as painless as possible. That should wrap up this completion, aside from playing online with someone for Socially Transmitted Distraction (20G).
Conclusion:
I personally had fun with this game, but I also went into it with low expectations thanks to some pretty harsh reviews. While it may not be as solid of a game as the previous two RPGs, it's still fun while it lasts, and thankfully doesn't requie any grinding. It definitely would've been way more fun with more weapon variety and enemy types, but even playing the entire thing solo I still enjoyed it. It definitely doesn't stand out in the roguelite genre, but if you're a South Park fan you'll definitely still enjoy this game for what it's worth: some mindless fun for a handful of hours.
