Introduction:
Sand Land is an action-RPG based on a manga by Akira Toriyama, most famously the creator of Dragon Ball. The developer is ILCA , and the crux of the adventure has you rumbling to and fro acorss an apocalyptic wasteland looking for water. Most of the game consists of fairly stale combat, carried out in tanks and other heavy machinery, and also some hand-to-hand. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of room for a really good game based on Toriyama’s manga, and this one doesn’t do justice to the vision of the manga or the anime. Still, if you’re a Toriyama fan, then this is required reading, as it were. In terms of achievements, this is a really pretty easy list. A lot of them are tied to the story, and there aren't very many imaginative or difficult ones to hunt down. Let’s get into it!

Step 1 – Finish the Main Story:
Completing the main story in Sand Land will unlock loads of achievements. There is a raft of story-related unlocks, such as Hydration! (10G), Hitting the Road (10G), First Vehicle (10G), Journey Hub (10G), New Journey (20G), Reunion (20G), and all sorts more, right up to Blessed Rain (20G). Along with all those achievements, which you get for progressing the story and just completing chapters, there are also lots that you can't really avoid unlocking. Vehicle Builder (10G), Vehicle Builder (10G), Part Upgrade (10G) (I suppose, technically, you could go the whole game without upgrading any parts, but you won't in practice), Part Production (10G), and Customizer (10G) are all tied to things that you will do in the course of the main adventure, things you can't avoid doing.

Then, on top of those, which are largely vehicle-based, you will also unlock a load of achievements tied to the combat and upgrades. These include Skill Upgrade (10G), Training Results (40G), Demonic Power (10G), Power Up, Pal (10G), Strong Together (20G), and Power of Friendship (10G).

Then, there are a few achievements that you will have to actually try to unlock, but, even then, you will likely unlock a bunch of these naturally just by playing. Things like Customizer (10G), where you have to repaint or customise the decals one of your vehicles, for example. Danger Lurks in Shadows (10G), which has you performing 10 Stealth Attacks. People Pleaser (10G), which you unlock for completing a side quest. Finders Not Keepers (10G) has you picking up an item of lost property. And Treasure Hunter (10G) has you finding an item at an exploration site, like a cave or a ruin.

Step 2 – Slightly focused achievement hunting:
Once you have finished that, you can then go about a little hunting. Some achievements are slightly out of the way, though none are too difficult. Interior Designer (20G), for example, has you furnishing your room back at Spino. Challenger (10G) requires that you fight in the Battle Arena. Meanwhile, Legend (20G) has you winning all ranked matches in the game’s Battle Arena mode. Racer (20G) has you clear a certain number of Time Attacks. And Champion (20G) has you winning all Headline Bouts. You can also use this phase to hunt down the three guardians, which are boss battles, basically, with no real fan fare; you just run into them out in the wild. Netting all three will nab you Guardian Nemesis (20G), Enemy Down (20G), and Formidable Encounter (20G).

Step 3 – Mop up:
This last phase is good for any remaining sneaky achievements. Express Traveler (40G) requires that you unlock a certain number of fast travel points on the map. So, really, this is a good achievement to put on the back burner while you explore the world. Engineer (40G) is much the same, in that it requires that you unlock a number of radio towers across the map. (This is worth doing anyway, as it fills in the map with terrain details.) Concerned Fellow Citizen (20G) has you pick up lost property a certain number of times, so this is something that you may well have accidentally unlocked by this point, if you’re hoovering stuff up in the open world. Spino Do-Gooder (20G) has you unlocking all Spino facilities through side quests.

Conclusion:
And there you have it. A bright and vibrant world filled with dull combat and a plodding story. Not the most difficult list at all, and a fairly easy 1000gs.png!

There are 51 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • All achievements unlocked.

Once you have made your way across the deserts and forests, thumped the enemy into next week, and proven yourself a bastion of demon kind, unlocking all of the other achievements on the list, this achievement will be yours, you little fiend!
  • Upgraded a vehicle.

You need to talk to Ann, who is in the garage in Spino. This will take you to the vehicle menu, and you will see the option there to Upgrade Vehicle. On this menu, you will be able to raise the level of your vehicles, making them more powerful and effective in combat. Hover over the vehicle you wish to upgrade, and press button-a.png. You will then see your current Vehicle Level, and, if you press and hold button-a.png, you will be able to raise that level. Once you have done that one time, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Upgraded a vehicle to the maximum.

As is the case with Vehicle Upgrade (10G), you need to have set up your vehicle upgrade garage. This means progressing the story until Ann is set up in Spino. (And there are also other mechanics whom you come across in the game, at various other settlements.) Once you have, go and visit the mechanic and select the Upgrade Vehicle option. You need to insure that you have the requisite materials and the money that you need to secure the upgrade, and then hold button-a.png. When you reach the maximum level for that vehicle, this achievement will unlock.
  • Made a vehicle.

    Story-related and unmissable.

As part of the “A Jump-bot?! Gimme!” mission, you will have to assemble a Jump-Bot. Once you have visited Ann in her garage and crafted each of the four parts necessary to to craft the Jump-Bot itself, you can then hold button-a.png to assemble the tank. When you do, this achievement will then unlock.

  • Owned multiple types of vehicles.

In order to unlock the Vehicle Hobbyist achievement, you need to own seven different vehicle types. This means, obviously progressing the story, which has you picking up many different types. You will likely unlock this achievement by the time you reach Forest Land or soon after, and you will have access to the Hopper and various other extra vehicles. (You can switch out which vehicles you have on you by going to a garage and clicking on the Select Vehicle option; then you can slot the desired vehicle into your radial menu, accessed by pressing dpad-right.png.) Once you have your seventh vehicle, this achievement will unlock.
  • Owned many types of vehicles.

As is the case with Vehicle Hobbyist (10G), you unlock this achievement by collecting a certain number of vehicles. In the case of the Vehicle Maniac achievement, you need to own thirteen different vehicles. While exploring, keep an eye out for vehicle blueprints, which you can find in chests and can buy from some merchants, as well. Once you have thirteen, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Obtained multiple vehicle parts blueprints.

You can obtain blueprints for vehicles and vehicle parts in a couple of ways: you can find them in chests, which are often tucked away in caves and ruins, and you can buy them from certain merchants. Plus, you can also obtain them by completing certain Side Quests. In order to unlock this achievement, you need to pick up fifty-three different blueprints. These can be for vehicles and for vehicle parts. Once you have fifty-three, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Upgraded a part.

To unlock this achievement, head for the garage and talk to Ann (or whichever mechanic you happen to be dealing with, if you’re not in Spino), and select the Parts option. From here, you can upgrade your parts in much the same way that you would your vehicle and your characters. It’s a good idea to keep your preferred weapons boosted to decent levels. Hover over the desired part and hold button-a.png to upgrade it – provided that you have the requisite materials, of course. when you do, this achievement will unlock.
  • Made a part.

    Story-related and unmissable.

During the mission “A Jump-bot?! Gimme!,” you will be able to start crafting parts for other kinds of tanks – specifically, for the Jump-Bot. You need to talk to Ann, who is in the garage in Spino. This will take you to the vehicle menu, from which you have the option to craft parts. Press rb.png to tab across to the Jump Bot option in the menu, select a part (for example the legs) and then hold button-a.png. This will craft that part, and this achievement will then unlock.

  • Owned a part of the strongest class.

I wouldn’t say that this achievement is necessarily unmissable, because you could technically not pick up a purple-coloured part, but you will come across them in the course of the main adventure. I found one in the mission “Counteroffensive!” after beating the Forest Land Officer. Once you pick up the purple Special Part, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Owned many parts of the strongest class for each vehicle type.

As is the case with Fiend-Approved Quality (20G), you will start to find purple parts for your vehicles as you progress through the main story. By the time you make it to Forest Land, your enemies will have grown quite tough. This is good news, as it means that you will find lots more of the strongest parts on enemies. Once have collected fifty-three strong parts, this achievement will unlock.
  • Customized a vehicle's decals or repainted it.

First, you need to complete the “Mysterious Voice” Side Quest, in order to unlock the paint shop. This is what will allow you to repaint your vehicles and to add custom decals. It’s a vanity business! Here is the location of the Mysterious Voice Side Quest, which pops up in Spino:

    general---sand-land_2024-05-01_10-41-23_cd68eee9-5eaa-4bb2-a214-cc441809456e.jpg

Once you have completed the quest, someone called Shion will set up shop in Spino, and this is what you need to unlock this achievement. Head to the paint shop and speak to Shion, then select the Painter option, and choose the vehicle you want to give a makeover to. Once you have pressed button-a.png and repainted it, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Upgraded one of Beelzebub's skills.

Press the Options button, to access the menu, and then tab across (rb.png) to the Characters menu. You will then see Beelzebub’s skills screen. Hover over the New Finishing Move skill, and hold button-a.png. You will unlock this skill and this achievement will then also unlock.
  • Gave Beelzebub multiple skill upgrades.

You need to give Beelzebub 16 skill upgrades (see Skill Upgrade (10G)) in order to unlock this achievement.
  • Used a Special Skill.

When you are in a battle, press and hold rb.png and then press button-b.png. Beelzebub will use one of his special abilities – the first of which has you throwing a massive boulder at your foes – and this achievement will then unlock. Note: you do need to progress a small way into the main story, and to have unlocked the special power in the character upgrade menu, before you can do this (see Skill Upgrade (10G)).
  • Upgraded an ally's skill.

To unlock this achievement, press Options and then tab across (rb.png) to the Characters page. From here, you can upgrade Beelzebub's abilites, making him more effective in combat. You can also upgrade your allies, and you can register their attacks to different button presses and have them chime in during hand-to-hand combat encounters. Press and hold button-a.png to unlock of these skills, and this achievement will then unlock.
  • Gave your allies multiple skill upgrades.

See Power Up, Pal (10G), to learn how the character upgrade system works. Now, to pop the Strong Together achievement, you need to unlock twenty-eight of your allies’ abilites. Just hold button-a.png over the desired upgrade, and once you hit the twenty-eighth this achievement will then unlock.
  • Used an ally skill.

Your allies have skills that assist you in battle (see Strong Together (20G)) and once you have upgraded your allies and given them some skills – which you do fairly early in the story – you will be able to use these. You can map them to certain buttons by hovering over the skill in the menu and pressing button-a.png, then choosing which of the face buttons you want it pinned to. Then, when you're in battle, hold lb.png and press your desired skill button, and this achievement will then unlock.
  • Carried out 10 Stealth Attacks.

During some parts of the adventure, usually when you find yourself on foot in an enemy military base, you will come across a stealth section. These sections aren’t very good, but, crucially, they also aren’t remotely difficult. In order to unlock this achievement, you need to do ten stealth attacks. You do these by holding lt.png to go into sneaky mode; then, creep up to an enemy and press button-y.png. Do this on ten enemies, and this achievement will then unlock.
  • Completed a side quest.

Side quests are indicated, on the map, as little question marks, and you can see them on your HUD as you run around. There are lots of these, notably in Spino, which is your homebase. Go up to one of these question marks and press button-y.png to talk to the quest-giver. Once you have finished the quest, this achievement will unlock.
  • Unlocked all Spino facilities through side quests.

As is the case with Customizer (10G), there are numerous side quests that you can complete, and some of them will result in you recruiting new people to come and live in Spino, your main hub. These people will add different options for you, such as the paint shop, where you can customise the look of your vehicles; the Workshop, which gives you access to different crafting components and rarer items, like Raptor Steel. To unlock the Workshop, you need to complete the Tinkerer Siblings side quest.
  • Completed a certain number of side quests.

First things first, see People Pleaser (10G) for an explanation on Side Quests. These are clearly marked on the map and also on the HUD, as a little exclamation mark, when you’re running around. There seventy-eight Side Quests in total, and all of your quests are listed in the Quests tab. Press Options and then tab across (rb.png) to the Quests page to see all of your active and completed quests. Once you have finished all seventy-eight, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Picked up lost property.

Once you have outrun the Geji Dragon, a cutscene will play, and Rao will talk about being out of food and water. The vehicle will be parked up in a new place, and just to your left you will see a yellow rubber duck leaning against a tree. Go over to it and press button-y.png to pick it up, and this achievement will then unlock.
  • Picked up lost property multiple times.

You will find lost property while you are out exploring in the world (see Finders Not Keepers (10G)), and it usually takes the form of trinkets and personal items. Return these to the right NPCs, and you will receive rewards. In order to unlock this achievement, you need to pick up fifty-eight bits of lost property.
  • Unlocked a certain number of Radio Towers.

In order to unlock the Engineer achievement, you need to repair twenty-four Radio Towers. These are marked on the map with a little pylon icon, and you can set a custom waypoint by pressing button-a.png. This will make it easy to navigate your way to the towers, and repaiting them will also fill your map in with icons of nearby things objects of interest. Once you have repaired twenty-four Radio Towers, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Activated all Fast Travel points.

There are one hundred and eight Fast Travel points in Sand Land, from little water fill-up checkpoints to bases, settlements, and cities. They are highlighted in blue on your map, which you can check at any time by pressing Options. It’s worth doing, just because it makes getting across the game’s expanses that much speedier; you just hover over the desired fast-travel points and hold button-x.png. Once you have visited all one hundred and eight of them, and held button-y.png to rest at each of them, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Found an item at an exploration site.

At the same location that you found the rubber duck and unlocked the Finders Not Keepers (10G) achievement, you will also find a chest up on the hill to your right. Walk up to it and press button-y.png to open the chest, and this achievement will then unlock.
  • Defeated an outlaw.

Head to the Junker Market: Lisab, which you can find here on the map:

    general---sand-land_2024-05-01_12-53-25_15ab6d00-6c70-48d6-80eb-7fbe559a81f9.jpg

When you’re there, you will come across a Hunter, from whom you can accept bounty contracts – Red Dead style! Take on one of these and hunt down your quarry, then thump them and/or shoot them into submission, and this achievement will then unlock.
  • Defeated a certain number of outlaws.

After you’ve defeated your first outlaw (see Sheriff (40G)), you know to take on nine more contracts and go and complete them. Once you’ve defeated ten outlaws in total, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Racer

    20

Cleared a certain number of Time Attacks.

You can find Time Attacks marked on the map as the little chequered flag icons. (You may want to repair some of the Radio Towers to fill more of the map icons in – see Engineer (40G).) They look like this:

    general---sand-land_2024-05-01_15-11-41_2d37a3c7-e831-463f-922a-fbfa23b9d442.jpg

As you can see, at the bottom-left there is a list of activities, divided by region, and you can tell how many things you have left to do / find in that area. There are usually one or two Time Attacks to a region. Once you have completed ten of these Time Attacks, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Got a room.

You need to first complete the side quest “Light on the Hilltop,” which you can find here:

    general-sandland_2024-05-10_12-56-09_36230d6a-8c0e-4aab-9858-b991e7cec2cb.jpg

Once you’ve finished that quest, Lutemis will come and join your settlement at Spino, and she will open a furniture store. This is where you need to go to purchase a room; the cheapest one is 10,000 Zeni. Once you have purchased a room, head to the garage and to the back wall inside. There’s a steel door there, and if you hold button-y.png then you’ll access your room, and this achievement will then unlock.
  • Furnished your room.

You unlock the Interior Designer by acquiring 100 pieces of furniture for your room. You can do this by finding furniture while you’re out exploring, and you can also buy furniture from Lutemis’s shop – which she sets up in Spino. (See My Own Room (10G).) Once you have bought or acquired your hundredth piece, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Fought in the Battle Arena.

The Battle Arena is an optional thing in Sand Land – basically an amphitheatre-style arena, where you can fight battles and win vehicle parts and zeni. First things first, you will find the Battle Arena here on the map:

    general-sandland_2024-05-10_13-02-07_2418df51-945f-4140-9339-db304ab04378.jpg

You’ll find a large gate here, and it will lead you through into the Battle Arena. There are two kinds of events that you can partake in here: Headline Bouts and Ranked Matches. The former are basically boss fights, tougher version of bosses that you do in the main game. The latter are sub-bosses. Stock up on healing items before going in, and also potions that can buff your combat prowess. Once you have completed a fight, in either category, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Won all Headline Bouts.

First things first, see Challenger (10G) for an explanation of the Battle Arena. In order to unlock the Champion achievement, you need to finish all of the Headline Bouts. There are thirty-nine Headline Bouts in the Battle Arena, so you’re in for the long haul with this one. It isn’t actually all that tough, though; just stock up on potions, buffs, and healing items, and you’ll be fine. Once you’ve beaten all thirty-nine, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Legend

    20

    Won all Ranked Matches.

See Challenger (10G) for an explanation of the Battle Arena. And also Champion (20G), which will let you know exactly what you’re in for for this achievement. It’s very similar to Champion (20G), except you unlock the Legend achievement by completing the other category of event at the Battle Arena, the Ranked Matches. These are marginally easier fights, and you need to complete fifty-two of them. Once you have beaten all fifty-two, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Outlaw

    20

Defeated a certain number of gang bosses.

If you check the map screen, then you will see Hideouts dotted here and there. The icon is a little skull on a flag. These are basically enemy bases, each belonging to a different gang, and you need to go there and be prepared to beat up a bunch of dudes. After you have cleared them out, you will fight the gang boss.

Secret achievements

  • Stole water from the soldiers.

You unlock this achievement by playing through the opening combat tutorial. You need to use a combination of weak and heavy attacks, along with your epic finishers, to defeat the two soldiers. Once you have beaten them, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Left Demon Village with your friends.

    Story-related and unmissable.

Once you have completed the tutorial and gone back to the Demon Village, you will soon meet Rao, a sheriff from a nearby town. He will propose a mission to find a water source, the Legendary Spring, and you will ask your father, Lucifer, if you can go. Once he agrees, you will set off in Rao’s car, a cutscene will play, and this achievement will unlock.

  • Stole a tank from the hangar.

    Story-related and unmissable.

You will unlock this achievement as part of the main story, during the mission “A Tank? Sign Me Up!” Once the cutscene in which you meet Ann is over, you will find yourself in control of a tank, and this achievement will then unlock.

  • Arrived in Spino.

    Story-related and unmissable.

After you have completed the “Need a Lift, Ann?” mission, a cutscene will trigger, and you will reach the village of Spino. This is a hub location that is part of the main quest, and the achievement will unlock once the cutscene is finished.

  • Found the Legendary Spring.

    Story-related and unmissable.

You will unlock this achievement after you have finished the mission “Headin’ South!” and during the mission “The Legendary Spring.” You will discover a narrow pass of rock in the midst of a sandstorm. As you make your way through the pass, Beelzebub will find a lush green oasis, and this achievement will then unlock.

  • Set out with your friends once more.

    Story-related and unmissable.

Once you have finished the mission “Water to the World!,” and the first big chunk of the story is complete, you will then be ready to head out on the next big adventure. Once you have reported back to your father at the Demon Village, you will start a new mission, called “Delivery for the Picchi.” Once the cutscene is over, and you are deposited into the open desert, this achievement will then unlock.

  • Arrived in Forest Land.

    Story-related and unmissable.

You will unlock this achievement during the missions "To Forest Land!" After you make your way through the dungeon and fight the Kraken, you will then trigger a cutscene that has you being carried through a fast current underwater. Eventually, you will be spat out in a green and pleasant new land. You will immediately have to fight a group of enemies hand-to-hand, then another cutscene will play. Once it has ended this achievement will then unlock.
  • Ann told her friends her secret.

    Story-related and unmissable.

You will unlock this achievement during the mission “Rescue Mission!” After you have established yourself in Forest Land and made a settlement at Trikke Camp, you will trigger a cutscene, after escaping the military complex and getting back to Trikke Camp. Once this cutscene is finished, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Reunited King Jam and Ann.

    Story-related and unmissable.

You will unlock this achievement for completing the mission “A Royal Rescue.” Once you have freed Ann’s father from prison and fought Prince Muniel, you will trigger a cutscene and wind up back at Trikke Camp. When the cutscene ends, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Flying Fortress Garam reactivated.

    Story-related and unmissable.

You will unlock this achievement for completing the mission “The Flying Fortress Garam.” After you have beaten Rosetta and her huge battletank – which isn’t actually a difficult fight at all, nor are any of the boss fights in Sand Land – you will trigger a cutscene. Then, you will follow a route down in an underground cavern and another cutscene will trigger. This achievement will then unlock.
  • Saved the world.

    Story-related and unmissable.

You will unlock this achievement for completing the mission “The Flying Fortress Garam.” After you have battled your way through the fortress, you will face off against Muniel, who morphs into a giant musclebound form with angel wings. It's still not a very tough fight, though. Use the Battle Armour vehicle and thump him with your giant iron fists. His attacks are really easy to evade with analog-left.png. Once this is done, you will trigger a couple of long cutscenes and get spat out into the post-game. When you do, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Defeated the Guardian of Nahn.

The Guardian of Nahn is a random boss encounter, and it just so happens to be a big red pterodactyl. You will the sucker in Sand Land at the location marked here:

    general-sandland_2024-05-10_17-23-14_60b75fbe-3b10-4b7f-bad7-29a3f8208940.jpg

Hop in your tank, keep up your lateral movement, and get blasting. This one isn't difficult at all. Once you have beaten the Guardian of Nahn, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Defeated the Guardian of Chapa.

The Guardian of Chapa is a random boss encounter, a big lion in a very grumpy mood indeed. You will this unhappy fellow in Sand Land at the location marked here:

    general-sandland_2024-05-10_19-10-42_7ffc1242-7241-4ee8-bf87-51055e89fb60.jpg

I found the Hovercar the best one for this, although the Battle Armor is always good, if you prefer to get up close and personal. Either way, it’s lunging attacks are easily avoided. Once you have beaten the Guardian of Chapa, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Defeated the Guardian of Rohti.

The Guardian of Rohti is one of the four guardians that you can find out in the wild. This particular one is a big old crocodile, and you will find him near Unai Radio Tower in Forest Land. The location is here:

    general-sandland_2024-05-10_19-21-57_14e3a96e-97bb-4e6e-8f9a-0c0d16d8ee2e.jpg

The Hovercar is the one to go for here. You don’t have much choice, given that the fight is on the water. Move laterally to avoid the beast’s long-range leaping attacks, and keep up a steady rate of fire with your missiles and / machine guns. Once you have beaten the Guardian of Rohti, this achievement will then unlock.
  • Defeated General Shiva.

To fight General Shiva, you need to embark on the Fateful Face-Off side quest. This you activate by talking to General Are in the Royal Capital. The location of the battle against General Shiva is in Sand Land here:

    general-sandland_2024-05-10_19-24-39_6df3becf-f886-49a7-aa6b-c9fb89d1c5fa.jpg

There are two other boss battles that you have to complete first, and General Shiva is the third opponent – though, you will have to defeated a number of Forest Land tanks first before he appears. In any event, he isn’t a very tought opponent at all. Keep up your movement, stock up on attack and defence boosts, along with repair kits, and keep up a steady rate of fire. Your Army Tank is good here, as is the Hovercar and the Battle Armor – or a mix of all three! Once you have defeated General Shive, this achievement will then unlock.
