Introduction:
Sand Land is an action-RPG based on a manga by Akira Toriyama, most famously the creator of Dragon Ball. The developer is ILCA , and the crux of the adventure has you rumbling to and fro acorss an apocalyptic wasteland looking for water. Most of the game consists of fairly stale combat, carried out in tanks and other heavy machinery, and also some hand-to-hand. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of room for a really good game based on Toriyama’s manga, and this one doesn’t do justice to the vision of the manga or the anime. Still, if you’re a Toriyama fan, then this is required reading, as it were. In terms of achievements, this is a really pretty easy list. A lot of them are tied to the story, and there aren't very many imaginative or difficult ones to hunt down. Let’s get into it!
Step 1 – Finish the Main Story:
Completing the main story in Sand Land will unlock loads of achievements. There is a raft of story-related unlocks, such as Hydration! (10G), Hitting the Road (10G), First Vehicle (10G), Journey Hub (10G), New Journey (20G), Reunion (20G), and all sorts more, right up to Blessed Rain (20G). Along with all those achievements, which you get for progressing the story and just completing chapters, there are also lots that you can't really avoid unlocking. Vehicle Builder (10G), Vehicle Builder (10G), Part Upgrade (10G) (I suppose, technically, you could go the whole game without upgrading any parts, but you won't in practice), Part Production (10G), and Customizer (10G) are all tied to things that you will do in the course of the main adventure, things you can't avoid doing.
Then, on top of those, which are largely vehicle-based, you will also unlock a load of achievements tied to the combat and upgrades. These include Skill Upgrade (10G), Training Results (40G), Demonic Power (10G), Power Up, Pal (10G), Strong Together (20G), and Power of Friendship (10G).
Then, there are a few achievements that you will have to actually try to unlock, but, even then, you will likely unlock a bunch of these naturally just by playing. Things like Customizer (10G), where you have to repaint or customise the decals one of your vehicles, for example. Danger Lurks in Shadows (10G), which has you performing 10 Stealth Attacks. People Pleaser (10G), which you unlock for completing a side quest. Finders Not Keepers (10G) has you picking up an item of lost property. And Treasure Hunter (10G) has you finding an item at an exploration site, like a cave or a ruin.
Step 2 – Slightly focused achievement hunting:
Once you have finished that, you can then go about a little hunting. Some achievements are slightly out of the way, though none are too difficult. Interior Designer (20G), for example, has you furnishing your room back at Spino. Challenger (10G) requires that you fight in the Battle Arena. Meanwhile, Legend (20G) has you winning all ranked matches in the game’s Battle Arena mode. Racer (20G) has you clear a certain number of Time Attacks. And Champion (20G) has you winning all Headline Bouts. You can also use this phase to hunt down the three guardians, which are boss battles, basically, with no real fan fare; you just run into them out in the wild. Netting all three will nab you Guardian Nemesis (20G), Enemy Down (20G), and Formidable Encounter (20G).
Step 3 – Mop up:
This last phase is good for any remaining sneaky achievements. Express Traveler (40G) requires that you unlock a certain number of fast travel points on the map. So, really, this is a good achievement to put on the back burner while you explore the world. Engineer (40G) is much the same, in that it requires that you unlock a number of radio towers across the map. (This is worth doing anyway, as it fills in the map with terrain details.) Concerned Fellow Citizen (20G) has you pick up lost property a certain number of times, so this is something that you may well have accidentally unlocked by this point, if you’re hoovering stuff up in the open world. Spino Do-Gooder (20G) has you unlocking all Spino facilities through side quests.
Conclusion:
And there you have it. A bright and vibrant world filled with dull combat and a plodding story. Not the most difficult list at all, and a fairly easy 1000
