Introduction:
Welcome to Undead Horde, an RTS zombie game where you control a necromancer who can resurrect corpses to fight for him. You'll be amassing a horde of allies by defeating enemies and resurrecting them to be on your side, and then using them to defeat more enemies, and so on. The game is broken down into around 40 smallish levels, making this a very manageable RTS game. The achievements are largely simple and straightforward, with only a few requiring you to make it a point to get them. However, see the important note below on missables since you could screw yourself out of some achievements if you aren't aware how enemies and progression works. Let's get started.
IMPORTANT Note on Missables:
There are two reasons achievements in this game are missable:
To start, just jump right into the game and run through the beginning tutorial sections. This will teach you the main mechanics of the game, of which there aren't many of: attack with
(you can hold the trigger in rather than mashing it), send enemies to attack with
, and resurrect corpses with
. That's the bulk of the game, but you'll eventually use a bit more strategy when it comes to what allies you want in your horde and what gear you equip.
Basically, for the completion, your goal as you progress is to:
As noted above, be sure you have every achievement in the game except Second Era (90G). Once that's your only achievement, go ahead and use the urn in the Crypt to slumber to the second era, and you'll unlock your final achievement.
Conclusion:
Undead Horde starts off a bit slow, but once things get going it's a pretty fun game. There is constant loot coming your way, which is great for keeping things interesting. Unfortunately, this meant that I literally never used the Crypt at all, since I didn't spend a single gold the entire time because I constantly had a steady stream of new gear being dropped. It's also a bit annoying that the game decides to throw fire at you toward the end, and there's no way to survive it without having some sort of fire resistance stat boosts in your gear, and that's the only status effect I encountered the entire time with the game. Other than that, I found it to be a pretty addictive game where I just wanted to keep pushing through and claiming areas, and had a lot of fun with this. It's definitely an extremely simple introduction into the RTS genre since it has more RPG elements than RTS, and it also has barely anything to manage versus other RTS games. Congrats on the completion!

IMPORTANT Note on Missables:
There are two reasons achievements in this game are missable:
- The first is because enemies do NOT respawn in levels once you "claim" a level. Claiming a level means you've killed all enemies AND destroyed all buildings. Once you do this, you'll get an onscreen notification that the area is claimed (or that all living are slain, in some levels where there are no buildings). This is also displayed just above your minimap in the lower right, where you can see a count of how many enemies and buildings are left on the current level. When both reach zero, the area is considered claimed. Once that happens, there will never be enemies on that level again. What this means for achievements is that, if you decide to just plow through all levels and claim all areas without paying attention to miscellaneous combat or horde achievements, there is no way to mop those achievements up if you've killed all enemies in the game. As a result, you'll want to ensure you get all miscellaneous achievements at the earliest opportunity just so you don't have to worry about them. That being said, there is NG+ to play right into, but that's still the equivalent of starting a new game to progress from scratch to try to get missed achievements.
- This leads to the second aspect of missable achievements. After beating the game, the final quest introduces you to the urn, which you can use to slumber until the next era, which is effectively New Game+. While the game does warn you before you use it, once you start NG+, you lose all access to your regular playthrough. This means that if you missed any achievements at all, such as secrets, quests, claiming areas, etc., you need to start them all over again on this NG+ playthrough, and essentially do a whole extra playthrough of the game. Therefore, Second Era (90G) should be your last achievement in the game, and you should not use the urn to slumber until you have every other achievement.
To start, just jump right into the game and run through the beginning tutorial sections. This will teach you the main mechanics of the game, of which there aren't many of: attack with

Basically, for the completion, your goal as you progress is to:
- Destroy all buildings in the area you come to. This is top priority, because otherwise enemies endlessly respawn. Buildings do not respawn, so even if you die, any buildings you destroyed stay that way, making it possible to make slow progress, worst case. The minimap in the lower right shows buildings in yellow that you need to destroy, and right above the minimap is a house icon showing how many buildings are left to destroy
- Kill all enemies. This is second priority, since they'll respawn until you destroy buildings. Once you get down to lower amounts of enemies left on a map, if you look at the minimap closely, you can see glowing red areas where enemies are left, helping you track them down. Like with buildings, there is a counter above the minimap that shows how many enemies are left, and you'll want to bring that down to zero
- Once you've destroyed all buildings and killed all enemies, you'll get a notification that the area has been claimed, and it'll get noticeably darker. This is a good time to mop up any secrets in that level. Press
to view the overworld map, and next to the level you're on there will be a purple chest icon with a number in it indicating how many secrets are undiscovered in that level. Use the guide in Explorer (90G) to grab any before moving on
- The last thing to do is to track down any exclamation points on your minimap. These are quest markers, and they typically just require you to talk to various people marked on your map. You need to complete all quests, so just take care of any quest markers before moving on
- As soon as you encounter chickens in groups in Alwyn Forest, that's a great place to get both Undead Trainer (30G) and Re-Animator (30G), although both can be done at numerous locations. I still recommend getting them done very early on, because later levels will be far, far harder to get them
- As soon as you get your first Scythe weapon drop, get Grim Reaper (15G) out of the way
- As soon as you get your first Staff with a Chickening aspect (turns an enemy into a chicken) get Werechicken (15G) done
- As soon as you get your first Ring of Plagueing drop, get Salmonella (15G) done
As noted above, be sure you have every achievement in the game except Second Era (90G). Once that's your only achievement, go ahead and use the urn in the Crypt to slumber to the second era, and you'll unlock your final achievement.
