Introduction:
The original Match-3 RPG returns with an all-new adventure, bringing the classic combination of strategic puzzle battles with epic monsters, unique hero classes, and rich fantasy stories. Explore mythical dungeons, uncover valuable loot, and unlock epic gear as you embark on a brand-new journey to become the next Puzzle Quest legend!

Xbox/Mobile Cross-Progression:
You will be happy to learn that unlike Gems of War, Puzzle Quest 3 allows cross-progression with an account you make via your email address. You can use this account on Xbox or a mobile device (I have tested on iOS) and switch back and forth as much as you want. I am not sure if this works across other platforms such as PC or Playstation, but I assume most people would want this ability on mobile since the game is essentially played best there anyway, and you can make progress on it anywhere you go! To enable this, do the following:

  1. Click on the icon with the three horizontal lines in the upper left of the screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Go to "Account"
  4. Click "Register"
  5. Choose an email address and password
  6. Go to your email and click on the activation link you were sent
  7. Use this same email/password on your other platform(s) to log in/recover your account
What to do if you "unlock" an achievement on Mobile:
While you are playing your account on a mobile device, you do not have to worry about what progress you make. Obviously if you meet the requirements for an achievement, because you are not signed into your Xbox Live profile on mobile, the achievement will not unlock to your Gamertag. But do not worry, there is a quick and easy way to do this later!

When you login to the game on your Xbox, go to the Tavern section, then "Goals" and click on the "Achievements" banner on the bottom of that screen. It should show the proper number of unlocked achievements in-game, even if that doesn't match what you have on your Gamertag because some were unlocked while playing on mobile. To force the achievements to unlock on your Xbox, simply hover over the appropriate achievement and press button-a.png - this forces the game to check if the matching Xbox achievement has unlocked on your profile, and if not it will do so immediately! If you are worried about having everything unlocked in the proper order, make sure you click on them chronologically (Chapter 1 before Chapter 5, Level 10 before Level 25, etc).

This is one of the best features a free-to-play game like this could have, and will certainly help you work on the game much more often and allow you to focus on other games when you actually can sit down in front of your Xbox!

Story Mode:
Your first order of business should be working through the game's 15 Chapters and complete the story. Along the way, you may need to explore some of the side content to earn more gold, better equipment, crafting materials, etc. You'll sort of figure that out yourself along the way, if you notice the gear score you have is much lower than the listed enemy score it means you need to grind some other areas to level up. If the "challenge" estimate is at Hard, it is advised you don't try that battle and instead upgrade some equipment before trying. You can pay gold and materials to upgrade your existing equipment, or use the Events/Dungeons/Skirmishes to get chests and hope for better equipment.

This process will take quite a long time, but along the way should reward you with a number of the achievements in the game outside of the ones tied simply to beating the story. Obviously your character will reach quite a high level, you'll tackle a bunch of the side content, and you'll get equipment from some of the sets to attempt to get a complete set bonus. Work on upgrading your followers and minions for better rewards, faster chest unlocks, etc. Unfortunately with this F2P model, time invested in this game will not be short unless you drop a big chunk of real world dollars to assist you.

Make sure you level your followers  and complete their side-quests while you go so they can help you. Getting them upgraded will also reward better items, more space to have chests stored/unlocking, a continuous supply of food, among other things. It's all a lot to take in at first, but really every screen is important, and hitting all of the content in waves will make you the most successful - though any way you slice it, this is a long, slow grind.

Multiplayer:
You only need to win a single co-op battle and five versus battles for the multiplayer achievements, as well as join or create a Kingdom. There are dozens of public kingdoms you can join simply to get the achievement, but being in an active one will get you better daily and weekly rewards, so it's advised to find a good, active one.

Season 3.0 DLC

Well, after nearly a year and two seasons of content have come and gone, we have unfortunately been hit with some DLC achievements for this game. Luckily, if you have completed the base achievement list, you'll be set in a good place to complete this fairly easily. There is one main achievement for completing the new season, while two of the achievements will require buying older seasonal content (Seasons 1.5 and 2.5), and another will require a 10-week investment in doing Adventures. All of this content is easy for a Level 50 account with good gear, which you should already have from completing the base list of achievements. For any additional help, see the guide below.

Season 3.1 DLC

And here we go. After two seasons came and went and it seemed like the original 1000gs.png was all we would get, here we are with multiple updates in a row. This one is extremely simple, but once again has time-gated achievements related to completing the Season 3.1 story content and doing 50 new adventures. Both of these have weekly updates, requiring you to keep coming back until you complete them. Be on the lookout for repeatable adventures so you can grind that one during the same week, but not every adventure can be replayed.

Overall Conclusion:
Puzzle Quest is back and it is now a F2P grind - not surprising considering they put out Gems of War in between with the same model essentially. The gameplay remains addictive, and the monetization will continue to smack you in the face, but overall it really is a good game. With the added ability to play this on Mobile and transfer your data back to Xbox, you'll be able to sneak in moments here and there on the go and make the 100+ hours feel less obtrusive.

There are 33 achievements with a total of 1200 points

  • Create your first Hero

After a short tutorial, you will be asked to pick a class to play as. Choose any of them and start the story mode to unlock this achievement.
  • Complete Chapter 1

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Complete Chapter 5

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Complete Chapter 10

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Complete Chapter 15

Story related and can not be missed.
  • Reach Level 10 with any Hero

See High and Mighty (100G) for more info.
  • Reach Level 25 with any Hero

See High and Mighty (100G) for more info.
  • Reach Level 50 with any Hero

You gain experience from every battle you win, and even a tiny amount for any battle you lose. This achievement will simply take time, but you can even complete battles against much easier opponents and still get some decent experience. Complete the story and this should come along the way. If not, just complete any appropriate Dungeon over and over until you're done.
  • Complete your first Follower Side Quest

Follower side-quests will unlock shortly after completing Chapter 1 when your first follower joins you. The gear score for these does not increase as yours done, so you can complete the next chapter and it will super easy to complete.
  • Reach Level 10 on a Follower

Followers are leveled with gold and food, a resource you will earn for many different types of battles and chests. You will also need to complete at least one side-quest per follower to get a unique item that is used to increase their "rarity" - you only need one to go from Common (white) to Uncommon (green) which happens at Level 5. You can get to Level 10 from there with no more rarity increases (the next one happens at Level 15).
  • Own 50 unique pieces of Gear

This will come naturally as you complete the story, but be aware you need to have all 50 unique pieces of gear in your inventory at the same time, so don't salvage anything unless you have a double of it.
  • Get any Gear Item to Level 10

See Forgemaster (200G) for more info.
  • Get any Gear Item to Level 50

The level you can increase your gear to is directly linked to your player level, so you won't be able to get this until you've also unlocked High and Mighty (100G). As you level and work through the story you'll get equipment near your own level, so don't spend too much on leveling up existing gear unless you're hard stuck on a story quest and aren't having luck getting new equipment from chests. This game is one of patience, so sometimes it is better to earn a gold or diamond chest and simply wait a day for it to unlock to see what you get rather than grinding a ton of battles for materials to level up existing gear. Regardless, once you get to Level 50 you'll be able to also increase a piece of gear to Level 50 for this achievement.

You'll need plenty of gold, equipment shards, and unique items (glyphs, runes, and relics) for this process - I won't go over how to obtain every single one as the game does a good job of allowing you to click on the item you need and then it shows any possible way to obtain it. Just follow the story to complete it and then target the different game types. You can of course spend real money to purchase bundles for upgrading certain things, but that's up to you.

Update: As of April 2, 2024, the requirement for this achievement changed, but only slightly. There was a large gear rework introduced with Season 3.0 and rather than upgrading individual pieces of equipment, there are now "Battle Scrolls" for defense, offense, and utility. If you already had achievement it will obviously stay unlocked, but if you were working toward it, your grind likely got longer. While this gear rework has simplified the process and allows all gear to share the same power boosts, the number of items required to get a scroll to Level 50 significantly increased over what a single item may have required. Regardless, the process remains the same as above.
  • Own 10 unique Spells

This will once again come naturally as you work through the story. You'll get new spells as rewards from story quests and from various chests. Just make sure you have ten unique spells in your inventory all at the same time.
  • Scribe

Get a Spell to Level 10

Similar to upgrading equipment, you will need a unique item (runes for spells) to increase the rarity. You should only need a single rune at Level 5 and can then use basic materials (spell shards and gold) to get it to Level 10.

Update: The spell system got a rework at the end of Season 2.0 (patch 2.5), which is outlined HERE. However, the system remains the same in how you upgrade the book to how you upgraded spells which I outlined in the original solution above.
  • Own 25 unique Minions

Just like spells and equipment, this will come along the way to completing the story. Be sure to keep any minion possible (even duplicates) as they are needed to open chests if you don't have a key to open it immediately. You can get rid of your duplicates later on once you have a nice stock of them, though you shouldn't run out of space for a while, especially if you are upgrading your followers who will provide more storage.
  • Get a Minion to Level 10

Similar to upgrading equipment, you will need a unique item (scrolls for minions) to increase the rarity. You should only need a single scroll at Level 5 and can then use basic materials (minion shards and gold) to get it to Level 10.
  • Equip your first Armor Bonus

An armor bonus occurs when you have at least two items equipped from the same set at the same time. Sometimes the set bonuses rely on the rarity of the pieces as well, and a bonus may not activate unless both pieces are Rare (blue) quality for instance. You should get this fairly early in the game as it spoon feeds you a few items from the "Royal" set as story quest rewards.
  • Equip a complete Armor Bonus Set

You should be able to get this fairly early in your journey to completing the story. I used one of the early sets called "Guard" which has Pauldron, Armor, Gloves, Belt, Shield, and Broadsword. Every armor set includes a weapon and will consist of six different pieces. At the time I unlocked this I also had five items for the Night and Royal sets and four pieces for three other sets, so you'll finish one quicker than you think.
  • Join a Kingdom

Once you hit Level 3, you can view the Kingdoms menu and you'll find a large number of available Kingdoms. Most will be public so you can just join quickly to get the achievement. You can also create your own Kingdom for 5k Gold if you'd prefer. I'd suggest trying to join a fairly full Kingdom as you will get some decent rewards of gold and keys just by being a member and playing the game.
  • Win a battle in a Party

You will gain the ability to fight battles in a party starting at Hero Level 3. Go to the "Battles" tab at the bottom of the screen and choose the "Party" option. From here you can search for existing parties and join them, or start your own and wait for someone to join you. You need a minimum of two people to unlock this achievement, despite being able to start a battle by yourself inside this section.

The battles here will scale to the total gear score of the party, so for instance if someone Level 30 joins you while you're only Level 5 as happened when I first got this achievement, you will likely get killed in one or two hits by the enemy your're facing. If you die, a resurrection timer begins and your party member if alive will move in to attack your enemy once they are done with their own. I died three times and did almost zero damage, but my ally killed all three enemies in the battle and I still got credit for completing it, and unlocked the achievement.
  • Win 5 Skirmishes

Skirmishes will take place during the story quests, so this is unmissable if you complete the story. You can also access on-demand Skirmishes via the "Battles" menu once you hit Level 5 if you want to speed this up.
  • Beat 5 Dungeons

Dungeons will take place during the story quests, so this is unmissable if you complete the story. You can also access on-demand Dungeons via the "Battles" menu once you hit Level 5 if you want to speed this up.
  • Win 5 Versus Battles

The Versus option will unlock in the "Battles" menu once you hit Level 9. Use the Quick Battle option to randomly get matched against an AI version of another player who has a similar level and gear score that you do. Try to prioritize skull matches and obviously focus on getting color matches for the spells you have. These battles typically aren't too difficult and you only need five thankfully.
  • Defeat 10 Enemies in Events

Events unlock in the "Battle" menu once you hit Level 5. You will see Daily Siege and Event Dungeons which will last one or multiple days, respectively. You get two tokens per day for each type of event, and each token will enroll you in a fight against two enemies. If you've followed that math, you can fight up to 8 enemies per day in Events. Do this two days in a row to unlock the achievement (assuming you kill every enemy and do not fail the fights).
  • Defeat 100 Dragons

Dragons will show up during story quests, events, and dungeons - most specifically the "Dragonrest Temple" dungeon which has a guaranteed dragon at the end. I'd suggest completing story mode first before spending any time grinding out the rest.

DLC: Season 3.0

There are 5 achievements with a total of 150 points

  • Defeat the Scourge of Light

The Scourge of Light is the final boss of Season 1.5, which can be purchased from the shop for 750 Gems, or played for free if you wait for it to be available during the weekly rotation (but since there are 10+ seasons, this could take a while). You will need to complete all three chapters of the season to face off and defeat this boss, which should pose no issue if you are Player Level 50 and have high-level gear.
  • Defeat Yog'Thadassa

Yog'Thadassa is the final boss of Season 2.5, which at the time of writing this guide (April 2024) is only available for Crowns, which cost real-world money to purchase and will set you back $5. As future seasons are released, it is likely this will be available for 750 gems similar to the other seasonal content, and will also be featured for free in the weekly rotation. However you decide to acquire this content, you will need to complete all three chapters of the season to face off and defeat this boss, which should pose no issue if you are Player Level 50 and have high-level gear.
  • Complete all Chapters of the Story in Season 3.0

Season 3.0 released into the game on April 2024, with one chapter unlocking every two weeks. Playing during the current active season is always free, while similar to Apocalypse Then (50G) you may need to use crowns, gems, or wait for the free weekly rotation to access the content. However you decide to access the content, once you have completed all three chapters, this achievement will unlock. Like previous seasonal content, a Level 50 player will have no issues on the regular difficulty.
  • Complete 10 Adventures

Adventures are available once per week, and consist of a few daily battles while you choose which path to take along a large map. You can view the entire map ahead of time, so plan your moves accordingly if you want to complete them as quickly as possible. You will not be able to complete the entire adventure in one sitting, as you only have so much "energy" per day, and this will refresh the following day to continue the journey or you can use gems to purchase more if you want to do the entire adventure in a single day. But as I said, only one adventure is available per week, so save your gems and just do it over multiple days. You can complete an adventure in the fewest possible moves in two days, or do it over 3-4 days if you want to explore every part of the map.
  • Collect 15 Portraits

Portraits are unlocked by completing various in-game achievements. I had 15 as soon as I logged back into the game in April 2024 after completing the original 1000 Gamerscore back when the game first launched, so this should come naturally as you work toward all the other achievements. The main way to earn these is to complete NPC side-quests, raise your Citadel level, max out different hero classes, and win increasing amounts of battles.

DLC: Season 3.1

There are 2 achievements with a total of 50 points

  • Complete all Chapters of the Story in Season 3.1

Story related and can not be missed. Remember that seasons are always free during the period in which they initially release, then will cost either gems or crowns to purchase depending on when you get around to playing them.
  • Complete 50 Adventures

Unfortunately this achievement is once again not retroactive, so even with the 10 Adventures that we did for the Season 3.0 achievement update, we're starting at zero once again. I did find out (after completing Going on an Adventure (15G) over a 10-week span) that there are some adventures that can be repeated. Be on the lookout for these, and you can knock out a huge chunk of this or even all 50 during a single adventure period. You'll likely need to spend a lot of gems to keep refreshing your energy though, or just work on it slowly over time.
