Introduction:
Welcome to Planet of Lana, a 2D puzzle platformer that sees you take on the role of a girl whose sister gets abducted by a faceless force of mechanical invanders, and it's up to you and a pal you'll meet on the way to save her. This game is a perfect pairing of Planet Alpha and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. It has the side scrolling platformers, set pieces, and stealth of Planet Alpha, mixed with the unintelligible language, character designs, and narrative of Brothers. The achievements are pretty straightforward, requiring you to find the ten hidden shrines, beat the game, and then beat the game without dying. The latter will likely sound intimidating to some, but there are some workarounds to make it relatively pain-free. Let's get started.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
As noted above, there are three types of achievements in this game:
As for the other non-story achievements.there related to the hidden shrines, and there are ten of those. Some chapters have one, some have two, and some have none. I have provided text guides for the shrines in each relevant achievement solution below, and then there is a video guide in A Trace of the Past (110G). Use whichever format you prefer, and keep it handy as you progress so you don't need to mop up later. Thankfully, the shrines are all in safe, out-of-the-way places that won't jeopardize your no-death run at all, so there's no reason to avoid them on your first playthrough. However, if you do miss any, you can easily mop them up with chapter select when you're done.
And that's it for this game's completion. Play through, avoiding deaths and reloading to cancel them out, grab the shrines along the way, and when you beat the game you'll have this completion. If you missed any shrines, use Chapter Select to get them. If you beat the game and don't get Flawless (110G), you'll unfortunately need to start a new save file and try again.
Conclusion:
Planet of Lana is a gorgeous game, with simple but fun puzzle-platforming, and a nice emotional grip throughout. It's definitely a really solid addition to the genre, and if you're a fan of either of the other two games I mentioned in the Intro, definitely play this game. While the no-death achievement will likely put off a bunch of people, it's still relatively simple to work around the deaths, unlike other games in the genre such as Limbo. If you survived with no deaths, congrats on the completion!
