Introduction:
Welcome to Turnip Boy Robs a Bank, the sequel to Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. You definitely don't need to have played the first before playing this one, though. This game has a roguelite format with shmup gameplay. Basically, each run you go on, you enter the bank to explore and steal money, defeating enemies and bosses along the way. You open up more of the bank to explore by defeating bosses to get their keycards, but also by returning to the hub between runs to buy permanent items to open up new areas. Along the way, you'll be getting lots of different ranged and melee weapons to help out, encountering tons of NPCs, many of which have side quests for you to complete, and spending your hard-earned money between runs on permanent upgrades to things such as damage, dodge distance, max health, and others. Achievements require you to beat the game and complete all side quests, as well as buying everything in the hub. This is all surprisingly straightforward to do. Let's get started.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
As noted in the overview, not only can you play on the easier difficulty, but there are also Accessibility options, including God Mode and some other things that game this game far easier than it otherwise would be. Feel free to utilize as much of this as you want to improve your experience. No achievements are affected.

Second, I'll quickly run through how this game works, since I wasn't expecting a roguelite experience when I started it. Each "run" has you entering the bank to steal money and progress farther into it. You can only carry a set amount of cash, but you can carry an unlimited amount of objects worth money (such as stuff you pick up from display cases). These add to your total after each run, so don't be alarm if your dollar amount doesn't go up when picking them up. You'll only be able to get so far in each run, and then you'll encounter some sort of barrier that'll require an item from the Dark Web to get past. To end each run, you'll need to head back to your truck at the entrance to the bank and leave. If time runs out, enemies start coming after you and attacking in higher and higher numbers. It uses a star system similar to Grand Theft Auto. Your stars increase the longer you spend fighting enemies and not leaving. If you stay to five stars, you get gassed everywhere. This is meant to kill you incredibly quickly, but if you use God Mode it won't impact you. However, be aware that after some minutes at five stars being gassed, eventually you'll be auto-killed, and even God Mode won't stop that. Dying (or this auto-kill if using God Mode) means you lose every single thing you've picked up and half the cash you collected. You'll therefore always want to get to your truck by the time the gas starts, to be safe. Your truck takes you back to the hub where you can donate weapons for research, buy "roids" to permanently increase stats for the next run, and buy items from the Dark Web which essentially function as story objects needed to progress further. So, you'll be alternating between the bank runs and buying stuff in the hub as you work on this completion.

Since this is a roguelite, go ahead and jump in, getting used to different types of earning money, enemies, and exploration. Some things to specifically focus on while you play:

  • Always end your run back at the truck with two weapons you picked up during the run (meaning get one new one and ditch the one you brought to bring a second new one). The reason for this is because you need to donate your weapons you brought back in the upper right corner of the hub to increase research meter up to level 10 for an achievement. The only way to do this is with two weapons from each run. This will take many runs to level up, so make sure you're always contributing towards it
  • During each run, always look for and interact with any NPC with a red exclamation above their head. That NPC has a new side quest for you to complete. Also keep an eye out for NPCs with a green exclamation, because those will progress and/or complete an existing side quest
  • You'll be taught that elevators are randomized on each run. Always check every elevator on each run, because all of them have NPCs with side quests and ways to earn money
  • As you progress further into the bank, you'll fight bosses and get keycards to access new areas. Each time you access a new area, the money you get in that area is far money than the previous area. At that point, I'd recommend skipping getting any money in the previous area. For example, on your first couple runs, you'll be getting enough money to likely max out your bag at $1,000 and earning hundreds from other sources. However, after beating the first boss and getting to the second area (Seed Stock), the money will be coming in closer to the thousands. Relics you collect from display cases are worth $1,000 instead of $100 in the first area. Similarly, when you get to the third area in the dark with the green slime, display case relics are worth $10,000 instead of $1,000. With this type of progress, you'll want to just run right through early areas on your new runs and beeline right to the new areas you've reached, to get the maximum amount of money
  • Regarding the Roids you can buy in the hub, if you're playing with God Mode on and other Accessibility options, none of the Roids really matters except for the money bag. That should be your top priority, since you'll be maxing out at $1,000 very early. Keep upgrading your money bag
  • In general, save and prioritize your money for the Dark Web items, especially if using God Mode. The Dark Web items are the only way to progress further, so get them on priority, then the money bag.
You'll initially be experienced some disorientation with the layout, but as you play you'll realize everything is connected and no areas are actually very big. Unfortunately, none of the side quests are marked on your map. Do as many as you can as you progress through areas, explore, and beat the game. By the time you beat the game, you'll unlock all story achievements, all money-related achievements tied to stealing money, and will have earned enough money to buy all Roids and all Dark Web items. Then, after beating the game and opening up all areas, refer to Completionist (150G) for a list of all side quests and where to complete them to mop up whatever you're missing. This will also result in you unlocking all hats. If you still need to grind out weapon research, go ahead and do that to wrap up this completion.

Conclusion:
Turnip Boy Robs a Bank is a crazy game. I had no idea what to expect going into it, but I had a ton of fun and couldn't put it down. The gameplay is really fun and addictive, the dialogue is ridiculous, with tons of references to various popular culture and online memes, and everything about the game is silly and over the top. It's a fun and hilarious experience from start to finish, and Accessibility options make it even easier to enjoy. This is one of the fastest and easiest games in the roguelite genre, so it's a great stepping stone for those new to the type of gameplay. Hopefully you enjoyed too, and congrats on the completion.

There are 23 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Break into the Botanical Bank

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This will unlock right at the beginning of the game, after starting your first run.
  • Purchase an item off the dark web

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

You'll need to buy many Dark Web items to progress farther into the bank. Your first will be the pick axe.
  • Use the weapon rack

While not strictly story related, you'll be introduced to the weapon rack after your second run. Use it to take a starting weapon with you on each run. The first time you do so, you'll unlock this.
  • Research a weapon

You'll also be taught about the weapon research board after your second run. Donate one of the weapons you bring back from a run to the board and you'll unlock this.
  • Purchase a Robo-Roid

After your first boss battle, you'll be taught about Roids in the hub. You'll need to purchase them all for an achievement, but prioritize the money bag first and foremost.
  • Refer to Please stop asking me for money (50G) for more information.
  • Steal $10,000

Refer to Please stop asking me for money (50G) for more information.
  • Steal $100,000

Refer to Please stop asking me for money (50G) for more information.
  • All of these achievements are basically story related. They are also all cumulative; you don't need to have $1,000,000 in your stash at once (although you unavoidably will as part of the story).

As noted in the roadmap, each new area of the bank you get to from beating a boss has an increased money reward from relics you get from display cases. You should therefore always be progressing and beelining to the newest area for the highest rewards. The last area you get to has a display case item worth $1,000,000 that you can't miss, so you'll unavoidably unlock all of these achievements by then.
  • Take all the photos

This is a specific side quest given to you by Annie in the hub. Some photos are taken at photo stands around the map, and some come from other sources. This side quest is detailed in Completionist (150G) with the rest of them. As soon as you take the last photo, this achievement unlocks, without needing to turn it in to Annie.
  • Obtained all the hats

There are 42 hats in the game, but they aren't a traditional collectible. There are actually only three ways to get hats:

    • In your Inbox on the pause menu from the start of the game
    • In your Inbox on the pause menu after beating the game
    • Reward for each side quest
As a result, you don't need to go out of your way for any hats. Beat the game and complete all tasks for Completionist (150G) (refer to it for more information). Then, pause and go to your Inbox. Mash button-a.png to cycle through all your mail and receive all the new hats, and this achievement will unlock.
  • Puchase all the Robo-Roids

As the description says, you need to purchase all of the permanent upgrades in the hub. They'll be quite expensive early on, but considering the display case relics in the final area are worth $100,000 each (not to mention the gem in the Motherlode worth $1,000,000), you will easily be able to buy out all upgrades by the time you beat the game. You'll end up being left with more money than you know what to do with.
  • Purchase all the items from the dark web

Almost all of these are story related. Most of the rest are needed for side quests. Like with the Roids, you'll have more money than you know what to do with by the end of the game, making it very easy to purchase all of these, which you'll likely do before reaching the end of the game anyway.
  • Reach the max level in weapon research

This requires you to reach level 10 in weapon research in the hub. You do this by turning in weapons you've collected during runs. You can only hold two weapons, so progress will be a bit slow here. On top of that, there doesn't seem to be a way to know how valuable your current weapons are. However, I have noticed that melee seem to be more valuable than ranged. The best I've seen are the soul scythe from the item box in the DJ room, and the huge sword from the fourth boss. Make it a point to bring two weapons back with you after each run and always turn them in, and you should have very little grinding to do at the end of your playthrough. Run in, head right to the fourth boss and defeat it to get its sword. Spot check a few elevators for the DJ room to get the scythe. Otherwise, grab any other random weapon drop and bring it back with you. Rinse and repeat until you reach level 10. This shouldn't take long at all.
  • Complete all tasks

Tasks are all of the quests in the game, both main and side quests. Aside from beating the game, there are a ton of side quests to complete. The following link does a great job of summarizing them all and showing screenshots of where each quest giver is and what you need to do, since this game for some reason doesn't mark anything on your map.

Secret achievements

  • Defeat Yeehaw

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the first boss of the game, and is located by first buying the pickaxe from the Dark Web, then going straight up through the first two rooms to reach a long hallway. Head through the left door to reach this boss fight.

Pretty much every boss fight of the first four works the same way: damage the boss while avoiding its projectiles, and after a set amount of damage the boss will jump back onto its perch in the center. You'll have to just survive and fight regular enemies and wait for the boss to jump back down. Rinse and repeat.
  • Defeat the Rotten Candy Apple

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the second boss of the game, and is located by first buying the cardboard box from the Dark Web, which becomes available after approaching where it's used. From the first boss, go up into Seed Stock, then go straight up to the top and over to the left to find a blocked area of boxes. You'll need to first go there and activate the quest to make the cardboard box appear at the Dark Web. Return to the hub to buy it. Once you have it, return to this location, complete the quest, then head up into the next room and through the door in the top center to find this boss.

Pretty much every boss fight of the first four works the same way: damage the boss while avoiding its projectiles, and after a set amount of damage the boss will jump back onto its perch in the center. You'll have to just survive and fight regular enemies and wait for the boss to jump back down. Rinse and repeat.
  • Defeat Mecha-Chad

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the third boss of the game, and is located by first buying the lantern from the Dark Web so you can see in the third area (which is accessed from the main hallway near the start, going straight up through the first keycard door, through the courtyard, then up and through the second keycard door. You'll want the lantern to be able to see in this area at all, and it's available earlier. Then, proceed through this area, which is a little tough to navigate, as far up and right as possible, and you'll find a weird wall of NPCs to interact with. This will make your next item at the Dark Web available to buy. Return to the hub, buy it, then return to this wall to break it up so you can go through and find this boss.

Pretty much every boss fight of the first four works the same way: damage the boss while avoiding its projectiles, and after a set amount of damage the boss will jump back onto its perch in the center. You'll have to just survive and fight regular enemies and wait for the boss to jump back down. Rinse and repeat.
  • Defeat Uncle Rigsby

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the fourth boss of the game, and is located by first buying the bridge from the Dark Web after triggering it at its use location. Head up into the courtyard where the fountain is, then through the third boss area into the crypts. Proceed through the hallways to find a pumpkin NPC with a quest by a gap. Talk to him to trigger the bridge to spawn at the Dark Web. Buy it in the hub, then return to this place to use it. Head through to reach this boss fight.

This boss is slightly different than the previous three. It has two arms and a main body you need to hit, and as far as I can tell, there's no way to hit the body with a melee weapon. Each time you destroy a hand, it will chase and attack you while you fight the body. There are also enemies spawning around too, making this pretty hectic.
  • Find the Mysterious Motherlode

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

After beating the fourth boss, return to the hub and you can buy the crowbar from the Dark Web. Return to the bank and head up and into the courtyard. Near the top exit is a manhole you can interact with to remove to enter the sewers. Navigate this area, defeating the swarms of rats along the way, and you'll reach the vault where this achievement unlocks. Make sure to grab the gem worth $1,000,000 at the end!
  • Find dad's stuff

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Right after finding the Motherlode, talk to Stinky in the vault and he'll tell you to open the suitcase above him. Do so to unlock this achievement.
  • Steal the Botanical Bank

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This achievement will first require you to purchase the boosters from the Dark Web for $900,000, which you'll easily be able to afford after taking the gem in the vault at the bottom of the bank. Once you buy them, you then need to enter a run and beat all four regular bosses again. Each one you beat will have an interactable point to build a rocket. Do this in all four boss rooms, then return to the courtyard and interact with the console to launch the bank and unlock this.
  • Defeat the final boss

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

After launching the bank, the final boss will appear. It's indestructible and will attack you nonstop. Your goal is basically to undo everything you just did: return to all four rockets and interact with them to disable them, then return to the courtyard and press the button, all while being attacked constantly. This will beat the final boss and the game.
