Introduction:
“Two engines, one champion, no limits. Climb on, strap in, and experience the pure adrenaline-pumping excitement of the podracing sequence from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace!
Take the controls as Anakin Skywalker or any one of over 21 podracers and feel the full-force blast of two; negotiate through flaming methane lakes, Tusken Raider assaults, anti-gravity tunnels and much more in a pulse-pounding, do-or-die fight to the finish where anyone will do anything to cross the finish line. How far will you go?” - xbox.com
Originally released in 1999 on the Nintendo 64, Aspyr has remastered the original game with updated graphics, modernized controls and achievement support. Even if you haven’t played this game previously or aren’t a fan of Star Wars, this is a surprisingly decent racing game, albeit very bare bones compared to modern racers.
Achievement-wise, Star Wars: Episode I Racer tasks you with placing first in all 25 races, fully upgrading your pod to give you an advantage, unlocking racers, plus a variety of other simple requirements. There are two ways to play this game; the way it was intended or playing with Debug Mode on. Debug Mode is a developer exploit which allows you to change aspects of the game to make it much easier for the player. It is really only useful for placing first in every race with minimal effort, making most achievements a breeze to earn.
Debug Mode:
For those who wish to use debug mode, this section is for you. Debug mode is mainly useful for placing first in all 25 races, and thus winning the maximum amount of truguts and unlocking a number of other achievements.
Note: Debug Mode is only valid for the current game session. If you quit the game and play it at another time, you will need to go through these steps again.
To utilize the debug menu, you first need to enter a passcode. For this, you will be creating two players; one for the passcode and one you will actually be playing with. We will not be using the first player at all as cheats do disable achievements if used directly.
On the main menu, select ‘Tournament’. Then on the next screen, select the top empty player slot. Here is where you’ll enter the passcode. Holding

Note that if you happen to press

Next, without exiting, to name this player slot, enter one or two letters then , pressing

Now that the debug menu is set up, we will be creating a player to use. Select the next empty player slot, and from there, enter a three-letter name, pressing

With that set up, when you select ‘Start Race’, you can access the cheat menu to easily win each race in 20 to 30 seconds. Refer to The fastest racer in the galaxy (70G) for more details.
Walkthrough - First Place:
The first thing you want to concentrate on is placing first in all 25 races. You can start on any of the three circuits available (Invitational circuit needs to be unlocked). Once you’ve placed first in all the races, you will have unlocked a minimum of 15 achievements, including all locked pod racers.
Note: If you are using debug mode, you will place first in every race in a matter of 20 to 30 seconds.

Walkthrough - Miscellaneous Mop Up:
With the first place, locked racer and parts achievements out of the way, now it is time to concentrate on the remaining achievements. At this point, using Debug Mode isn’t really beneficial to unlocking these achievements except for maybe using Invincibility Mode.
Chances are, when you were getting your first place wins, you also unlocked:

For what it’s worth, Star Wars: Episode I Racer is a mediocre remaster at best. Aspyr basically cleaned up the graphics to make it playable on modern consoles and TVs. It is what it is. The game still retains the fast-paced racing and is a satisfying game for fans of old as well as new.
