Introduction:
Welcome to Catlateral Damage: Remeowstered, a first-person game where you take on the role of a cat left alone inside of a house/building, and your goal is to cause as much chaos as possible. Think of it like a much simpler Untitled Goose Game, where you have objectives to complete that range from causing monetary value in damage, scratching curtains, catching mice/moths, riding Roombas, and smashing things. Along the way, you'll gather some collecticles, unlock new cats, purchase perks, and unlock new levels and game modes. It's a pretty solid amount of content. As for achievements, you'll spent a few hours in Goals Mode, another hour or so in Procedural Mode, and then have a bunch of grinding to do for miscellaneous achievements. Let's get started.
Goals Mode:
The only accessible mode from the start is Goals Mode. Each level functions the same way. In each, you need to:
- Complete all five goals. The individual goals can be completed across separate runs, but progress on a single goal doesn't carry between runs. So, if you need to cause $10,000 in damage, that must be done in a single run. In early levels, this makes it easy to focus on a couple goals per run
- Achieve the high score. On the level select screen you'll be shown what the high score threshold is. You'll basically need to focus on toppling stuff and breaking stuff to reach this goal. In each levels, you'll need to do this on a separate run from doing goals since you won't have good enough stats and energy to do it all at once
- Collect all of the photos. There are a handful of photos to collect in every level. They are either very obvious hanging on a wall, on they're in a standing frame on a shelf on tabletop. Those are the only two places photos can be, and you'll need them all in every level
- Collect the key. In the first six levels, after completing half of the items (getting half of the bells), a key will be become available to collect, hidden in the level somewhere. Replay the level and grab the key to unlock an achievement and a new level
- Top priority is Double Jump. If you can't reach your Goals, you can't complete them, and this makes it possible to reach all areas of the levels
- Second priority is energy, namely the three perks to increase energy amount
- Third priority is jump height. With this maxed out plus double jump, you can essentially jump from the floor to the ceiling in almost every level
- After that, get the perks for napping and eating giving you more energy to again prolong your runs
- Lastly, mop up everything left in whatever order you want. None of the rest really matters much
Procedural Mode:
This mode will unlock relatively early in Goals Mode, but don't bother with it until you have all perks and have unlocked the last level in Goals Mode, Pawliday Den. There are only two achievements specific to this mode, actually. The first is Peak Purrformance (15G), which must be done on a Procedural run of Modern Home. The second is Procedural Pro (40G) for completing 100 goals in this mode. How it works is that each time you do a Procedural run on a level, you are given five randomized goals to complete. Aside from that, the levels work just like Goals Mode. So this is a sort of grind, but you'll need to grind out 100 completed goals in this mode. The quickest way to do this is to replay Pawliday Den (the last level) over and over because it's such a small and compact level, making it very quick and easy to complete the five goals.
One very important other thing to complete in this mode is the photos for Photo Completionist (50G). You need all 300 photos, and after Goals Mode you won't even reach 100. The only way to get more photos is in Procedural Mode. Each time you do a run (of Pawliday Den), you'll also want to collect all of the photos in addition to completing all of the goals. Like usual, check the four walls for any hanging photos and then the flat surfaces (shelves and tables) for any framed photos. You can get 4-6 photos per run, plus some goals reward you with photos too. It should work out pretty closely, if you're getting all photos in each run too, that you'll reach 250 or so photos by the time you finish 100 goals in this mode. From there, you likely have a ton of extra currency after buying all perks. Go into Collection, and Photos, and then use your currency to buy as many missing photos as you can. If you still are short of 300 after all that, you'll need to do more runs in Procedural Mode where you just grab the photos then end the run, and repeat to reach 300 photos.
Grinding:
With those bigger items done, all that should be left are miscellaneous cumulative achievements. Now it's time to grind them out. Grab the miscellaneous ones such as catching mice, catching moths, unrolling toilet paper, etc. Refer to the guide for how to quickly and easily grind them out. Your last and longer grind will be for Ultra Mess Maker (50G) for toppling 20,000 total items. You are unlikely to be more than a third of the way done with it by the time you finish every other achievement, meaning you have some serious grinding to do. Thankfully there are some efficient ways to do this, but expect to spend a couple hours grinding this out to finish off your completion.
Conclusion:
This is a pretty simple but fun game. The controls and handling are pretty awkward to get used to, and increase movement speed makes things a bit harder since you're harder to control, but overall it's a solid amount of content and enjoyable for what it is. The grind at the end is a little obnoxious, artificially adding length, but it isn't too bad to wrap up this completion.
