Introduction:
“The best-selling LEGO Batman video game franchise returns in an out-of-this-world, action-packed adventure! In LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, the Caped Crusader joins forces with the super heroes of the DC Comics universe and blasts off to outer space to stop the evil Brainiac from destroying Earth. Using the power of the Lantern Rings, Brainiac shrinks worlds to add to his twisted collection of miniature cities from across the universe. Now the greatest super heroes and the most cunning villains must unite and journey to different Lantern Worlds to collect the Lantern Rings and stop Brainiac before it’s too late.” - from LEGO.com.
Traverse through 15 sprawling levels and 11 hubs that take you to such locations as the Batcave, the Fortress of Solitude, the Watchtower and even the Lantern Planets. Unlock and play as your favorite DC Universe characters, each with special and unique abilities, as you try to thwart Brainiac’s ultimate goal of taking over the Earth!
All LEGO games follow the same formula. First you play through the story, then replay the levels in Free Play to get 100% in them then you tackle the hubs one at a time. This game is no different. Utilizing this method will maximize your time and you will complete the game sooner. Or, you can shake things up and play in any order you like!
Cheat Codes:
As with all previous LEGO games, using cheat codes do not disable any achievements. At any point in the game, press > ‘Extras’ > ‘Enter Code’. Then enter in the code of your choice below.
Note: If you use the red brick codes, you still have to locate and purchase the red brick in the game for it to count towards the 100%.
Refer to this post for a list of cheat codes.
Character Abilities:
Sometimes in free play you need a certain character to perform a certain task and you don’t know who to use. This list has most of the abilities listed and which character you can use. Chances are you are going to use the same character for an ability all the time, but alternates are listed in case you want to mix things up.
Refer to this post for a list of abilities.
Step 1 - Story Mode:
There are 15 story levels to play through, each taking roughly 20-30 minutes, so you’re looking at approximately 6-7 hours to complete this step. These levels are not difficult at all but you may become stuck in certain areas as to what to do next. If that happens, there is a Youtube walkthrough playlist linked below to assist you.
Don’t worry about any collectibles or attaining True Hero the first time playing as you cannot gather most of them through story mode anyway. Plus, you need certain characters to access certain areas of the level that aren’t available to you in your first playthrough. Just sit back and enjoy the story.
Once the story is complete, you will unlock the bonus level where you play as Batman and Robin from the 1966 TV show, with voice over by the one and only Adam West.
Step 2 - Free Play Mode:
It is recommended that you complete the story first before going back and playing the levels in Free Play.
Once you have completed the story, free play opens up for all the levels and the hubs. You can do them in any order, but it is suggested that you complete free play in the levels before the hubs as there are red bricks you unlock and purchase that will help you as you go along. Of course, if you are using video walkthroughs, you don’t really need any of these bricks except maybe the stud multipliers.
Each story level contains five gold bricks: completing the level (which you should have gotten in Story mode), attaining True Hero, finding all 10 minikits, rescuing Adam West and finding all three character tokens. Playing through each level again should take about the same time each as it did playing through the story, so it’ll take about 6-7 hours to accomplish this step. Play through each level and complete them 100% before moving onto the next one so you don’t have to backtrack and play it again.
Full 100% for all levels and hubs (playlist courtesy of packattack04082)
Step 3 - Hubs:
You have limited access to areas of the Batcave and the Watchtower after you complete level four, ‘Space Station Infestation.’ You gain full access to all areas (including the Hall of Justice) and can access the character grid to purchase and switch characters after completing level six, ‘The Lantern Menace.’ You can also go back and play completed levels in Free Play once you complete that level.
Each hub has side-quests, puzzles and small battles to unlock character tokens and gold bricks. Certain side-quests don’t appear until previous ones are completed, so same with the Free Play levels, complete one hub 100% before moving onto the next one to reduce backtracking and to maximize your play time.
You do not have access to the seven Lantern planet hubs until you have at least 10 gold bricks and have completed the corresponding level. Plus, you have to build the portals to these planets in the Moon Base before you can visit them. The Lantern planet hubs also contain side-quests, puzzles and small battles, but also include races. Each race (12 on Oa and three on each of the six other planets) reward you with a gold brick. The controls are better and the races are shorter than what was in LEGO Marvel, so you really shouldn’t have too much trouble with these.
Step 4 - Mop Up & 100%:
Don’t forget to complete all 21 VR missions in either the Batcave or Watchtower. They reward you with gold bricks, character tokens and/or vehicle tokens. Then make sure you’ve purchased all the characters and vehicles (only location to purchase vehicles is on Oa). Also make sure you purchase all 20 red bricks. If you’ve missed anything in Free Play or in the hubs, now is your chance to complete it. Press to see what your percentage is. If it’s 100%, make your way to the Green Room in the Watchtower Control Room, pull the lever and watch the studs fall!
