Introduction:
Finn and Jake have been sent by Princess Bubblegum to the Nameless Kingdom. Upon arrival, they discover that the princesses of the kingdom have been kidnapped! The two heroes set out on an adventure to rescue the princesses and save the Nameless Kingdom, encountering many familiar characters along the way.

Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom is very reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda games. If you've played some of them, you'll see many similarities.

Playthrough 1:
For your first playthrough, you'll want to just enjoy the game and get used to its mechanics, locations, and enemies. There are tons items to collect, many of which will require item or ability upgrades found in the dungeons you will explore. During this playthrough, you will be able to unlock all but one achievement, "Ambitreacherous."

Playthrough 2:
This playthrough will be dedicated solely to Ambitreacherous. For this run, you are not allowed to upgrade your thumps, sword, or armor. That means no picking up thumps after defeating bosses, no rattleballs training, no like like sweater from final dungeon, and no Jake shield upgrade (unconfirmed) from Marceline. See "Ambitreacherous" for a couple tips.

Mop Up:
Since you reload your save before defeating the final boss, all but one achievement is missable. You are free to tackle whatever achievements you put off at your leisure before or after finishing the game.

Conclusion:
Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom is a short, but enjoyable homage to The Legend of Zelda. My biggest complaint with this game is that it's small. You don't have a large world or many dungeons to explore. However, if you're a fan of the series and The Legend of Zelda, this game is for you.

There are 35 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Get briefed on the mission

Story related and cannot be missed.

You will get this as soon as you speak to Pillowmint Butler.

  • Find Lullaby Princess

Story related and cannot be missed.

Lullaby Princess is located in the first temple known as Song Temple. To reach her, you will have to defeat the temple’s boss. To reach the boss, you will have to find the temple upgrade, the Grabby Hands, solve an instrument puzzle, and find the boss key. Solving the puzzle requires using the grabby hands on five hand shaped switches which are connected to various instruments. You will see these instruments along with numbers on special tiles located throughout the dungeon. The numbers indicated the order you need to hit them (1 = first, 2 second, etc).

The boss is made up of six enemies. To defeat them, you must use Jake’s Grabby Hands on their projectiles to hit them back at the enemies. Upon doing this, you will stun the enemy that attacked you. Then, you must quickly use Grabby Hands on that stunned enemy to defeat it. Their attack pattern changes each time you defeat one and their projectiles move faster, so you will have to anticipate them and use Grabby Hands sooner and sooner.

  • Appease Cinnamon Bun

Story related and cannot be missed.

To appease Cinnamon Bun, you need to give him a baggy of poot. There is a Medium Butt Rock that creates clouds of poot. It is located one screen down, three screens to the left, and 1 screen down again from the starting castle’s entrance. After getting the poot, go to the rightmost bridge on the world map to find Cinnamon Bun. Talk to him and the option to give him the baggy of poot will appear. Choose yes.

  • Find a renewable light source

Story related and cannot be missed.

To acquire the renewable light source, you need to first have acquired Grabby Hands from the first temple. After you have done so, follow the steps in “A day in the life of a bun.” Once Cinnamon Bun is out of the way, go two screens to the right to find Rattleballs and a tiny manticore flying around.

Use Grabby Hands to put the manticore in an empty baggy. Next, you need to go to Magic Man and give him the manticore. Magic Man is located in a house one screen to the right from Stanley which is in the very bottom left corner of the map.

  • Find Slumber Princess

Story related and cannot be missed.

Slumber Princess is located in the second temple. To reach her, you’ll have to defeat the temple boss by lifting and throwing crystals into holes to reflect his eye beam to the back of his shell. Blue crystals reflect in cardinal directions (up, down, left, right), and green crystals reflect in two angled directions relative to the direction the beam is coming from. Repeat until he’s defeated.

  • Find Nightmare Princess

Story Related and cannot be missed.

This princess is located in the third temple. To defeat the boss of this temple, you will have to fight a shadow of Finn. This boss has three phases. The first phase requires you to use Lady Rainicorn’s Ring and attack with Jake.

The second phase requires lighting all four torches before attacking. The third phase requires either Jake or Finn to step on a pressure plate to allow light in the room which will damage the boss. You can use the other person to attack the boss and keep it inside the circle of light.

  • Find a Gum Globe

Gum Globes are hidden items that can be found in bushes, in treasure chests, inside stumps, etc. Upon finding your first one, this achievement will unlock. See “Blade of Grass” for locations.

  • Find a Thump Shard

    See “The Red Throne.

  • Max out your Thump Meter

Maxing out your Thump meter requires finding all thump shards and thumps from defeating bosses. The following is a list of the thump shards in the order I found them:

    1. From the starting castle’s entrance, go down one screen and left to screens. Up some stairs will be a cracked Cliffside wall you need to bomb. Inside is a rotating bridge puzzle. (Requires Grabby Hands).
    2. Burn the stump directly north of Rattleballs and go up one screen. (Requires Flambo).
    3. Located on 2F of the second temple. (Requires bombing the floor on 3F and jumping down the hole).
    4. Available for 200 treasure at Choose Goose’s shop.
    5. Under a giant rock two screens down from the graveyard. (Requires Hero’s Gauntlet).
    6. Inside a cave one screen down, one screen to the left, one screen down, and one screen to the right of the first temple’s entrance. (Requires Hero’s Gauntlet).
    7. Under a giant rock two screens down from second temple’s entrance. (Requires Hero’s Gauntlet).
    8. From the rightmost bridge on the world map where Cinnamon Bun was, go one screen to the right, then go back one screen to the left from the bottom part of this screen. You will find the entrance to a cave. In the cave, go up some stairs to find another exit. Leave and go left to find a cracked Cliffside wall. Bomb it and you’ll find a thump shard inside.
    9. In the bottom right side of the map, there is a swamp area. From the first screen of this area, go one screen to the left and one screen down to find a thump shard. (Requires Flambo to kill stationary plant monsters).
    10. From Stanley’s house move two screens to the right to see a thump shard in the middle of some wooden posts. (Requires Slammy Hands).
    11. From the second temple’s entrance, move one screen down and one screen to the left. The thump shard will be over a gap on a long bridge. (Requires Lady Rainicorn’s Ring).
    12. From the northeastern most bridge on the map, move to the left side of the bridge to find a cave entrance. Inside the cave is a giant rock with the thump shard underneath. (Requires Hero’s Gauntlet).
    13. From the starting castle’s entrance, move one screen down and one screen to the left. The thump shard will be behind a wooden post. (Requires Slammy Hands).
    14. From the third temple’s entrance, move one screen down and one screen to the right. The thump shard will be on an island connected by broken bridges. (Requires Lady Rainicorn’s Ring).
    15. From the second temple’s entrance, move one screen down, one screen to the left, and one screen down. Jump down off the cliff and you’ll see a broken bridge. The thump shard is on the other side. (Requires Lady Rainicorn’s Ring).
    16. From the starting castle’s entrance, move one screen down, one screen to the right, and one screen down to find a broken bridge. The thump shard will be in a treasure chest on an island across some broken bridges. (Requires Lady Rainicorn’s Ring).
    17. On 2F of the final dungeon in the bottom right most room. (Requires entry from the bottom centermost room).
    18. On 2f of the final dungeon in a very tiny secret room on the map. (Requires bombing a wall and entry through bottom left locked door).
  • Buy an item from Choose Goose

Choose Goose has a shop directly north of the starting castle. If you open your map and look at the top center of the map, his shop will be the middle building. Simply buy one of the items to unlock this achievement. The cheapest item costs 20 treasure.

  • Buy any variety of Trail Mix

You can buy trail mix from the witch located one screen down, and three screens to the left of the starting castle’s entrance in a shop. There are three types of trail mix and you need fruit, nuts, or demon hearts to purchase them.

  • Complete the Trading Game

This achievement is a sequence of trades you need to complete before you can enter the final dungeon. To complete this, you must do the following:

    1. Acquire Heat cassette from rightmost house above the starting castle on the world map. (Requires Grabby Hands).
    2. From the location above, move down two screens and chop down a bush on the left side of the screen to reveal a hidden staircase. Inside is Shelby, and he’ll ask for a movie. Give it to him to receive Mind Games.
    3. Near the second temple’s entrance is a long bridge. Cross it and on the left side is a cave entrance. Inside is the Ice King. He is looking for pickup moves to impress princesses. Speak to him to give him Mind Games and he will give you his Fanfiction.
    4. From the southern entrance of the Totally Freaky Dungeon, move down one screen to find a cave entrance. Inside is Coal Man, and he’s looking for something to read. Speak to him to give him the Fanfiction, and you will receive a Honey Energy Drink.
    5. From the first temple’s entrance, move one screen down, one screen to the left, one screen down, and one screen to the right to find a cave entrance. Once inside, go all the way to the right then up to find the party bears and Party Pat. Speak to Party Pat to give him the Honey Energy Drink, and you will receive Bug Milk
    6. In the top part of the Graveyard is a Nightosphere Demon looking for bug milk to open a portal. Speak to him to give him the Bug Milk and he will give you the Enchiridion, unlocking the achievement.
  • Win the race against Starchy

To win against Starchy, you will have to have the Grabby Hands from the first temple and the Hero’s Gauntlet from the second temple. After you have both, burn the stump and throw the giant rock in the graveyard. Now you can accept Starchy’s challenge and take these shortcuts to win. Since he runs at the exact same speed and gets a head start, there’s no other way to win.

  • Receive sword training

To receive sword training, you need to find 20 Gum Globes and give them to Rattleballs. Upon doing so, he will give you the ability to do more damage with your sword and shoot energy blasts with it at full health. Rattleballs is located two screens to the right from the rightmost bridge on the world map where Cinnamon Bun was.

Gum Globes are hidden items that can be found in bushes, in treasure chests, inside stumps, under giant rocks, etc. Here are the locations I found Gum Globes:

    1. In a treasure chest on the right side of the screen at the starting castle’s entrance.
    2. In a bush one screen up from the bridge that’s directly to the right of the starting castle.
    3. In a treasure chest on 1F in Song Temple. (Bomb a floor on 2F).
    4. In a treasure chest one screen to the right and one screen down from the rightmost bridge on the world map.
    5. In a bush two screens to the right, up some stairs from the rightmost bridge on the world map.
    6. Inside a stump right next to Magic Man’s house (Requires Flambo).
    7. Inside a stump right next to the Medium Butt Shaped Rock (Requires Flambo).
    8. In a bush one screen down, four screens to the right from the starting castle’s entrance.
    9. In a bush up some stairs one screen to the left of the trail mix shop. (You need to navigate a dark cave to get here).
    10. In a treasure chest down one screen, right two screens, and up one screen up some stairs from the second temple’s entrance.
    11. In a treasure chest on 4F of the second temple in the very top right room.
    12. There’s one for sale at Choose Goose’s shop for 50 treasure. It will show up for sale after you have bought the thump shard for 200 treasure.
    13. In a treasure chest one screen down, one screen to the left, and one screen up from the first temple’s entrance. (Requires Hero’s Gauntlet).
    14. In a treasure chest one screen down, one screen to the left, and one screen down from the first temple’s entrance. (Requires Flambo).
    15. Under a giant rock one screen down, one screen to the right, and one screen down from the starting castle’s entrance. (Requires Hero’s Gauntlet).
    16. Inside a tree stump one screen down and one screen to the left of the starting castle’s entrance. (Requires Flambo).
    17. Inside a tree stump one screen to the right of Stanley’s house. (Requires Flambo).
    18. In a treasure chest one screen to the left of the Medium Butt Rock. (Requires navigating a dark cave and jumping off a cliff).
    19. Under a giant rock in a dark cave one screen to the left and one screen up from trail mix shop. (Requires Hero’s Gauntlet).
    20. In a treasure chest one screen down, one screen to the left, and one screen down from the second temple’s entrance. (Requires jumping off a cliff).
  • Complete the circle of love

From the trail mix shop move up one screen and enter a cave. Immediately go to the right to find a room with Tree Trunks. Speak to her to receive a love note that you need to give to Mr. Pig.

From the starting castle’s entrance, move down one screen, right one screen, up two screens, and right one screen to find a cave entrance. Mr. Pig will be inside. Speak to him to give him the note and unlock the achievement. He will now sell spare thumps as well.

  • Make a mess of the Pottery Shop until you get something nice

The Pottery Shop is the leftmost building above the starting castle on the world map. When you enter you will see many pots. As soon as you smash one, a timer will appear. You have to smash them all before it reaches zero, because you’ll be thrown out and will have to try again.

Smashing them all within the time limit is only possible once you acquire the Smashy Hands ability. See "Locate the Hidden Princess." With this ability, press and hold  to charge smashy hands before releasing. Doing so will create a large shockwave that will smash several pots at once. Upon success, you will be thrown out and yelled at. Then a baggy will be at your feet.

  • Find every item in the entire game.

I'm not exactly sure what this achievement is asking for since I did not ever possess all three types of trail mix or Cyclops tears. This is a list of the items I had when the achievement unlocked:

    • Fruit
    • Nuts
    • Demon Heart
  • Find every secret Gunter cave

Gunter can be found in secret areas of many caves, and you will have to find him in each of his locations and speak to him. Each time you do, he will give you some treasure. The following are his locations:

    1. From the starting castle’s entrance, go down one screen and left two screens. Up some stairs will be a cracked Cliffside wall you need to bomb. Once inside, go down the stairs and all the way to the left into a white exit, leading into another part of the cave.
    2. After navigating a dark cave that leads to an area north of the trail mix shop, you’ll find another dark cave. Avoid the porcupines, fairy convicts, dynamite guys, and ear monsters while making your way to the top left area of the cave. Gunter will be standing between two torches. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you walk under a long wooden bridge before entering the cave and as again as soon as you enter the cave.
    3. Right above Stanley’s house in the very bottom left corner of the map is a stump that can be burned with Flambo. Beyond it is Gunter. This isn’t much of a cave area.
    4. From the rightmost bridge on the world map where Cinnamon Bun was, go one screen to the right, then go back one screen to the left from the bottom part of this screen. You will find the entrance to a cave. Gunter will be inside on the far left side after you go up some stairs.
    5. From the rightmost bridge on the world map where Cinnamon Bun was, go two screens to the right to find a cracked Cliffside wall. Bomb it to find Gunter inside.
    6. From the third temple entrance, go down one screen and right one screen. Chop the bushes until you find a secret staircase. It’ll drop you onto a raised platform Gunter is standing on.
  • Dance the night away in the Rave Cave

The Rave Cave is located one screen down, one screen to the left, one screen down, and one screen to the right from the first temple’s entrance. Once inside, go all the way to the right then up. To unlock this achievement, you stay in this area for around 10 minutes.

  • Stun 5 enemies with a single Bananarang

Before you can attempt this, you need to buy the Bananarang from Choose Goose. Once you have it, a good spot to get this is in the second room of the first temple. It’s very large and there are over 10 enemies in this area. You’ll want to stay close to the skeletons so they’ll continue to follow you. Once you have several of them together, throw the Bananarang past them and quickly move between it and the group of enemies. It will hit them on the way back to you. This may take a few tries.

Alternatively, there’s a much easier way to bunch them together, and that is to use meat. If you’re willing to spend some treasure or find some, drop a piece of meat and all enemies in the room will flock to it until it disappears. I don’t know if the upgraded Bananarang charged throw counts, I succeeded with a single Bananrang as the achievement description states.

  • Chop down 999 bushes

This will most likely unlock with natural progression. Scattered across the land are many bushes with items, money, and health in them. After you chop down 999 bushes, the achievement will be yours.

  • Beat the game without upgrading Finn's Thumps, Sword, or Armor.

For this achievement, you cannot pick up any thumps after defeating temple bosses, upgrade Jake at Marceline’s cave pool, upgrade your sword at Rattleballs, or pick up the Like Like Sweater in the final dungeon. (It might be on 1B as that's the only place with a treasure chest I didn't open aside from the Thump Shard chest on 2F.)

This achievement isn’t as bad as it sounds. A glitch I stumbled upon allows you to use infinite items from a baggy, including invincible trail mix. To perform this glitch put your baggy with whatever item you want to use infinitely on the button. After you use the item, go to the map screen and press

This will cause you to use the item again even if your bag is empty! Repeat as necessary.

NOTE: It is important to be aware that you need to catch projectiles into a baggy for the final boss. This will reset your glitch, but it will allow you to use the projectile multiple times instead of having to catch more.

My method for tackling this boss was to have one baggy of attack up mix, two baggies of invincibility mix, and one baggy of spare thumps.

I started with a baggy of invincibility mix and would use it over and over while attacking until the boss would create a barrier and throw green projectiles. From this point, I would use the invincibility mix one last them, then switch to attack mix, then I'd catch and use the projectiles to destroy the barrier.

At this point, I would use my second invincibility mix after the first wore off for the last time and continue attacking as normal. When I reached the point where the boss would shoot green shockwaves in all directions, I used invincibility again because this part requires catching and attacking with green projectiles again. After catching and using the same green projectile a few times, the barrier went down and I attacked as usual until the boss was defeated.

Secret achievements

  • Locate the hidden Princess

Lumpy Space Princess is the hidden princess and she’s located in the totally freaky dungeon. This dungeon is located one screen down, one screen to the left, and one screen up from the third temple. After you reach LSP and speak to her, you’ll need to use Grabby Hands on her to unlock this achievement. You’ll also unlock the Slammy Hands ability allowing you to smash wooden posts.

  • Get Extra Ending 1

After defeating the final boss, you will have to choose which of the three princesses should rule over the kingdom. Choose Lullaby princess for this ending.

  • Get Extra Ending 2

  • Find every Baggy

Baggies are this game’s empty bottles that are used for storing various items and enemies. You can find them at the following locations:

    1. At Choose Goose’s shop for 20 treasure.
    2. In a treasure chest inside a secret cave. From the starting castle’s entrance, go down one screen, left one screen, and up one screen. A cliffside wall will have cracks on it. Bomb it to reveal the cave entrance.
    3. A reward from Starchy after beating him in a race. (Requires first and second temple treasures).
    4. A reward from the wizard after bringing him five piles of wood. (See "The vault").
    5. A “reward” for smashing all the pots in the Pottery Shop. (Requires Smashy Hands).
  • Receive every type of Curse

There are four types of curses you can be afflicted with. They are the foot transformation, poison, confusion, and ice. The yellow version of this spinning flower enemy, a buried magi, is only capable of inflicting ice and foot transformation.

It is located in the first temple. There’s a purple version of this enemy in the third temple and it is capable of inflicting all four curses. Simply let it hit you until you’ve had all four curses.

  • Repair the wizard's door

Similar to the first Legend of Zelda on NES, an old man will get mad at you if you reveal the entrance to his secret cave. The wizard is located in a cave one screen north of the trail mix shop. (you’ll have to navigate a dark cave to get here) You will have to blow up a cracked Cliffside wall to get to the wizard. Upon entering he will demand you go find five piles of boards to fix his door. The boards can be found in the following locations:

    1. Inside a stump near the trail mix shop. (Requires Flambo).
    2. Inside a stump down one screen, left one screen, and up one screen from the starting castle’s entrance. (Requires Flambo).
    3. In a bush down one screen, left one screen, and up one screen from the first temple’s entrance.
    4. Under a giant rock one screen to the left and one screen up from the trail mix shop. (Requires Hero’s Gauntlet and navigating a dark cave).
    5. On the far right side of the map, you will find a rainy/swamp area if you keep going south. On the first screen you see like this, go down and to the right a bit to find some plant monsters. Use flambo on them then head back up to find a tree stump. The wood is inside the tree stump. (Requires Flambo obviously).
  • Squash a Pie Fairy

To squash a Pie Fairy, you need to have Jake’s Grabby Hands ability. Once you have it, press  near a pie fairy. They can be found randomly and near pink fountains.

  • Defeat an enemy after hitting it with both Finn and Jake

Contrary to the achievement name, you don’t actually wear Jake. In the third temple, you get Lady Rainicorn’s Ring which allows you to play as Jake. After you get this, use it to have Jake leave Finn’s pocket and walk up to an enemy to attack. After you’ve hit an enemy once, switch to Finn and finish it off.

  • Use Flambo to defeat a Lub Glub

Lub Glubs are the floating enemies that throw pool floats. You can find these enemies in the second temple. When you encounter them simply equip and use Flambo until one is defeated.

  • Shove a Fairy Convict into a Baggy

To capture a Fairy Convict, you will need to first acquire Grabby Hands from the first temple. After doing so, you will need to have an empty baggy and to find a fairy convict. They are fairies that attack you. Simply get close and press .

  • Lie to Marceline

As soon as you can make it to the third temple, you will be able to find a pool of water that leads to Marceline’s cave. From the southernmost bridge on the map, start on the right side of it and go down one screen, move to the right a bit, then go back up one screen to see a cave entrance. In this cave you can walk up to the pool and press to throw an item in. Select Jake then lie to her to get the achievement. You can also tell the truth to upgrade him.

  • Attempt to speak to Stanley 5 times

At the very bottom left corner of the map is a house with a watermelon in front of it rolling in circles. All you have to do is go up to the watermelon and press  five times for the achievement.
