Introduction:
Welcome to Madden NFL 17. This is essentially the same as every other Madden for the past few years. They might have made some small tweaks, but you will not be surprised by anything here. It's all the same. The replay value is high if you like to play with friends or if you're interested in creating your Madden Ultimate Team (MUT), but other than that... it's a fairly quick 1000 and not really worth the purchase IMO. Borrow it or rent it.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Start up a few "Play Now" games on an easy setting and get used to the controls and options.

Then take a look at the achievement list and start banging them out. You'll need a few Play Now games, an hour or so in Madden Ultimate Team, some quick simulations of career mode and then that darn Draft Champions event.

You could get this done in one day if you're lucky (and you start on the right day), but the Draft Champions achievement is luck based and essentially determines your time to completion.

I also recommend you download a 99 overall boosted roster from the community section. You can play all your games as the maxed out team. Conversely, you can also edit a team to have TERRIBLE stats. Focus on the Speed/Anticipation stats, as you'll want to be able to run circles around the team. This will be important for (arguably) the hardest achievement in the game, detailed below!

My recommendation for playing would be this:

  1. Career legacy mode simulation
  2. Skills Trainer
  3. Play Now for a feel for controls and miscellaneous achievements. Then look at all the achievements required in Play Now mode and bang them out.
  4. Madden Ultimate Team achievements
  5. Draft Champions achievement

Online:
There are three online achievements related to MUT: "The Biggest Stage," "Ultimate Post Season," and "Go to the Beach." These are for playing an entire season of MUT.

Mop-Up:
There isn't much to mop up, because you can tackle the achievements in any order you want. There isn't a set play through and other than getting the feel for the buttons if you are a first timer, you can just jump into any mode you want.

Conclusion:
An easy 1000 if you're used to any football games in the Madden franchise. Even if you're not a big football fan, you can probably bang this one out fairly easy. I ranked it a 3/10 simply because there were two achievements that caused me a bit of grief (seemingly luck based for both).

There are 34 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Earn gold from a drill inside the Skills Trainer.

Skills trainer is essentially tutorial mode. You are given objectives and tasks to do on the field of practice and you get a medal based on how well you did. You'll be completing tons of drills, so don't worry too much about this. You should get this naturally from a variety of them. You can get Bronze, Silver or Gold before you move on to the next drill. There are drills for running, passing, defense and audibles.

  • Earn at least one bronze medal in all Basic Offense drills inside of Skills Trainer.

See "The Gold Standard" for more information.

  • Earn at least one bronze medal in all Basic Defense drills inside of Skills Trainer.

See "The Gold Standard" for more information.

  • Earn at least one bronze medal in all Football Concept drills inside of Skills Trainer.

See "The Gold Standard" for more information.

  • Earn at least one bronze medal in all Advanced Offensive Drills inside of Skills Trainer.

See "The Gold Standard" for more information.

  • Earn at least one bronze medal in all Strategy Drills inside of Skills Trainer.

See "The Gold Standard" for more information.

  • Score a rushing and passing TD with a QB in a single game (no SuperSim, or Co-Op).

Simple enough. You'll get tons of passing touchdowns. After you get one in a game, run plays to get you to the 1 yard line. If you're home free and all alone, just run out of bounds. Then do a QB sneak running play or an Option Read play if you're super confident in your skills.

  • Score a TD on an option play (no SuperSim, Skill Trainer, Practice, or Co-Op).

A set of plays that allow the QB to either run the ball himself or hand the ball off to the RB. Just bring up an Option play from the Formation or Concept play calling menu.

  • Make a Coach Adjustment (No SuperSim, Practice or Co-Op).

When in game and picking a play, you can click Right stick and it will give you adjustments to whatever side your on. Offense and defense both have adjustments. Simply make one before the snap.

  • Run a play that has been set up (No SuperSim, Practice or Co-Op).

Like the coach adjustment, these are plays that have been set up in your coaching options. There are pre-set plays, so you can just bring up the audible or adjustment screen by using the thumbsticks before the snap and call the play.

  • Complete your first Draft Champions event.

    See "Undisputed" for more information.

  • Draft a team with an OVR greater than 82 in Draft Champions.

One of the hardest achievements in the game! Luckily, there is a trick! As of this writing, they have a special draft event on Tuesdays. It used to be Fridays... so make sure you aware of what day they have the event when you have the game. Don't bother going for this on any other day. It's a waste of time.

On the special event days, you get BONUS legendary or elite players. The options to choose from are simply way better. I must have done 40 drafts with no luck. Then on the special event Tuesday, I got it on my 2nd draft.

In addition to the special day:

Know the basic roster layout. Pick only 1 player from each position, other than:

    CB
    WR
    DT

Those positions can have 2 guys, but drafting two top level QB or RB is not going to help you at all. Some people are saying TE and FB for example don't help you, but they do. Every position helps you, with at least ONE guy picked. Drafting two FS or SS though, isn't wise.

  • Draft a Team Style (5 players of a particular team style) in Draft Champions.

Players have a certain "style" they are better formatted for. Pass heavy offense, Run heavy offense, 3-4 defense, Zone defense, etc.... Just pick 5 of the same style while drafting (you'll probably be unable to actually draft 5 of them, but you'll have some given to you in your base deck).

  • Complete a Draft Champions event undefeated.

Go into Draft Champions and draft a team in Solo Mode. It's like a fantasy draft, only you have to pick from just 3 players at a time. Try not to pick the same position twice, unless the team actually needs it (WR or CB for example). Then go play 3 games and win them all to get the undefeated achievement: The Champion. If you lose once, you have to start over again.

  • Execute a Successful Fake Punt for a First Down (No SuperSim, Practice or Co-Op).

Call up the FORMATION play book and go into special teams. Select Fake punt and just pass the ball to your WR and run for the first down and go out of bounds. If you are using the stacked rosters, it's easy. You can also use 2 controllers and set the defense on FG block.

  • Earn a first round bye in Ultimate Team Seasons.

This is an online achievement. Play through a season in MUT and get a 1st round bye for the playoffs. You'll need the top record in your conference for the bye round. This will also get you the achievement for "Ultimate Post Season". You should continue winning through the playoffs to win the Superbowl and get an achievement for that!

  • Make the playoffs in Ultimate Team Seasons.

This is an online achievement. See "Go To The Beach" for more information.

  • Make it to a MUT Seasons Super Bowl.

This is an online achievement. See "Go To The Beach" for more information.

  • Complete a MUT set.

You will need to play a few games and/or earn packs of players by doing other things in the game.

From the main menu, go to ultimate team and once you are in, scroll all the way to the right to find Items. Under items, you will see sets. Click on it and select Earn Badges. Once that is done, scroll down to Bronze Player Trade-In. To complete this set, all you need to do is find 9 bronze players from your available items and put them in. Once 9 bronze players are put in, you will get the achievement and a bronze pack.

  • Win a MUT auction.

Go to the auction screen and purchase a player for 200 or 250 coins in the Buy It Now section.

  • Win a MUT Solo Challenge.

Go into Madden Ultimate Team section and play one of the scenarios. Several of them only require some yardage, a first down or defensive stop for example. They can be really easy and quick. Just win the challenge!

  • Using a created player, coach, or owner - surpass a legacy score of 1,150.

See "Tom Brady Legacy Award" for more information.

  • Using a created player, coach, or owner - surpass a legacy score of 2,150.

See "Tom Brady Legacy Award" for more information.

  • Using a created player, coach, or owner - surpass a legacy score of 7,500.

See "Tom Brady Legacy Award" for more information.

  • Using a created player, coach, or owner - surpass a legacy score of 8,000.

See "Tom Brady Legacy Award" for more information.

  • Using a created player, coach, or owner - surpass a legacy score of 10,100.

See "Tom Brady Legacy Award" for more information.

  • Using a created player, coach, or owner - surpass a legacy score of 25,000.

Download a 99 rated roster from the Community section. There are many options like Seahawks, Bills, etc... to choose from. Make sure you load that roster after you d/l it.

Start a new career as a coach (team builder style). Change the skill level to All-Madden, and salary cap to off. Towards the bottom of the menu make sure Re-sign players, Fill Roster, progress players, sign off season free agents, and simulate game prep activities are all set to on.

Simply start your season and simulate for ten years! All the legacy awards will pop within several years!

  • Record a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery on a single play (No SuperSim, Practice or Co-Op).

This is the tough one. You need to use a 99 overall team against a terrible team. And by terrible, I mean you need to go and edit EVERY player that could be on the front line during a fake punt passing play (Special teams guys). Adjust their speed and anticipation so they are all very low.

You can do this with two controllers in Play Now.

Pause game when it starts. Go into Settings, Player Skill , Move Fumbles Slider all the way to 0.

Make sure second controller profile is on offense and choose Special Teams - Fake Punt (passing).

With Active controller (defense), move one of your Defensive players right besides the punter before snapping the ball with the other controller (offside).

Snap the ball with the other controller, and then use the active profile controller to tackle the punter using the RB button (strip ball). The punter will fumble the ball and make sure you recover it with the same defensive player. You need to pick it up and return it with the same guy. It might take a few tries. Then just deny the penalty and allow the score. Achievement unlocks!

  • Execute a Fake FG for a TD (No SuperSim, Practice or Co-Op).

Call up the FORMATION play book and go into special teams. Select Fake FG and just pass the ball to your WR and run for the TD. If you are using the stacked rosters, it's easy. You can also use two controllers and set the defense on FG block.

  • Complete a Single-Player Draft Champions event.

Go into Draft Champions and pick a team. Start a game, then quit it. Counts as a loss, but completion of event.

  • Draft a player with an OVR at least 15 points higher than the player he replaces in Draft Champions.

This will be easy. You are given at least one legendary player for 91 OVR rating and they replace guys in their low 70s rating.

  • Complete 5 Draft Champions Events.

Finish any five events. You can quit them all or play them all, it doesn't matter. The event counts once it ends, win or lose.
