Introduction:
Welcome to Madden NFL 17. This is essentially the same as every other Madden for the past few years. They might have made some small tweaks, but you will not be surprised by anything here. It's all the same. The replay value is high if you like to play with friends or if you're interested in creating your Madden Ultimate Team (MUT), but other than that... it's a fairly quick 1000 and not really worth the purchase IMO. Borrow it or rent it.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Start up a few "Play Now" games on an easy setting and get used to the controls and options.
Then take a look at the achievement list and start banging them out. You'll need a few Play Now games, an hour or so in Madden Ultimate Team, some quick simulations of career mode and then that darn Draft Champions event.
You could get this done in one day if you're lucky (and you start on the right day), but the Draft Champions achievement is luck based and essentially determines your time to completion.
I also recommend you download a 99 overall boosted roster from the community section. You can play all your games as the maxed out team. Conversely, you can also edit a team to have TERRIBLE stats. Focus on the Speed/Anticipation stats, as you'll want to be able to run circles around the team. This will be important for (arguably) the hardest achievement in the game, detailed below!
My recommendation for playing would be this:
- Career legacy mode simulation
- Skills Trainer
- Play Now for a feel for controls and miscellaneous achievements. Then look at all the achievements required in Play Now mode and bang them out.
- Madden Ultimate Team achievements
- Draft Champions achievement
Online:
There are three online achievements related to MUT: "The Biggest Stage," "Ultimate Post Season," and "Go to the Beach." These are for playing an entire season of MUT.
Mop-Up:
There isn't much to mop up, because you can tackle the achievements in any order you want. There isn't a set play through and other than getting the feel for the buttons if you are a first timer, you can just jump into any mode you want.
Conclusion:
An easy 1000 if you're used to any football games in the Madden franchise. Even if you're not a big football fan, you can probably bang this one out fairly easy. I ranked it a 3/10 simply because there were two achievements that caused me a bit of grief (seemingly luck based for both).
