Introduction:
Most people who grew up after 1990 will be familiar with the Goosebumps series of books. Aimed at early teens, these soft-horror books sold in their millions. This game is based in the Goosebumps world, and references several of the stories and characters. A point-and-click style adventure, making it through the story isn't hard and won't take you long, but there are a bunch of misceallaneous achievements and a few that may take a little planning.

Step 1 - Playthrough 1 - Speed Run
There is one achievement for completing the game in 175 turns or less, so it is not possible to get everything in one go. A full step by step walkthrough written by Gage over at PST can be found HERE. Follow this guide to the letter, and you will guarantee you get everything done in two goes. Of course, if you would rather play blind, it is recommended to swap these two playthroughs around so you can work out your path for the optimum speed run.

Step 2 - Playthrough 2 - Casual Run
Following the guide mentioned below, this run will gain you all of the other achievements that you did not get in your speed run. Even though this is not a speed run, it should only take around 90 minutes or so.

Step 3 - Mop Up
If you managed to miss anything in your casual run, you may need another partial playthrough to get any stragglers.

Conclusion:
Goosebumps: The Game isn't a bad point-and-click adventure, but like the books it is aimed for the younger player. As most of us here are that little bit older, the story isn't terribly engaging although there are a few entertaining bits. Fortunately the game is over before you have really started and provides a very easy 1000.

There are 40 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Collect the cell phone from your school locker.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

This will be the first achievement you earn in the game. At the beginning, you will be at your school. Go inside and open your locker with the key in your bag, and grab your cell phone from inside.

  • Find a way past the strange man in the woods.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

Once you get to the woods, you will find your path is blocked by a strange man in the woods. You need to do what you have always been advised by parents to do if you see a strange man in the woods - spray him with weed killer, of course. The weed killer is found in the shack in the school parking lot if you missed it.

  • Complete Area 1 and return home.

This will unlock when you return home at the end of the first section. You can find your house key hidden inside a cola can, which can be found in a hole under the steps in your backyard.

  • Evict an elderly intruder.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

First of all, you will need to take the purple drink from the fridge in the kitchen. Once you have this, go and talk to the old lady in the dining room and answer her questions as follows:

    1 - No way
    2 - Apologize
    3 - Decline
    4 - Give details
    5 - Really open up
    6 - Keep talking
    7 - Continue
    8 - Let her sleep

When the questions have finished, use the purple drink on her glass.

  • See to the needs of the 3 unexpected guests.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

The three “unexpected guests”, are ghosts that you need to get rid of to progress through the story. You will need three items to please these guests to get rid of them. The item for the first ghost is a postcard that is found in the mailbox outside the house which you will probably have picked up already if you are being thorough. For the second ghost, there are two ways. You will need either need the walkman you get from solving the chess puzzle, combined with the cassette from the old lady and the battery from the back of the robot in the guest room. Play the music for it for this one. Alternatively, see “It Came from the Internet!” for how to use your cell phone instead. For the third ghost, you need the to 1988 from the grandfather clock in the den and give it to him - you will need the screwdriver to get this. Once they all have their “gifts”, this will unlock.

  • Face what lies beneath the sink… and survive!

While playing through the game, you will find yourself at one point entering a crawlspace under the sink, after using the screwdriver to unlock the screws in the cupboard under the sink. Once in the crawlspace, go up, up, up, right, up, right, up, up, the up and grab the bag. Then go repeatedly down until you end up back in the kitchen unlocking this one.

  • Access the mysterious dimension from every possible angle.

Throughout the house, there are four entrances to a dreamworld that lets you teleport to different parts of the house. They are located in the basement by clicking on the vice on the workbench, in the closet of the dryer room, the door next to the armchair in the guest room and in the closet in your parents bedroom. Once you enter your fourth one, you will get this achievement.

  • Disable a deadly toy bent on destruction.

When in the guest room, click on the pile of toys to get attacked by a robot. Simply take it out by using the container of dish soap found underneath the sink in the kitchen.

  • Solve a compression problem to reach the attic.

    Story related, cannot be missed,

To solve this problem, you need the stepladder and screwdriver found in the basement, and the gargoyle saliva from your parents bedroom. To gain access to these three rooms, you need to get rid of the three ghosts - see “The Ghost Next Door”. Once you have these, use the stepladder to reach the hatch, the screwdriver on the pipe to release the green slime and the saliva to stop you getting crushed.

  • Look into an antique mirror and do some self reflection.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

Once you get to the attic, you will find an antique mirror. Use the hand mirror that you find in the upstairs bathroom drawer on it and this one will unlock. Make sure you get the hand mirror before you go up to the attic.

  • Convince your brother to give you a ride across town.

    Story related, cannot be missed

Your brother will appear later in the game, after the section in the attic. One you finish this part, you will be back downstairs and your brother will ask you to get his birth certificate. Grab it from your parents bedroom, then after a chat he will leave. Head outside, talk to him again and you can go to the mall, unlocking the achievement.

  • Find a way inside the Mall.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

To get into the mall, you will first need the keycard. To get the keycard, use the shrunken head (found in the removal van) on the creature in the right hand path of the forest, then use the spade (found in your backyard) to dig it up. Once at the mall, use the keycard on the door, and you will be chased out by the security guard. When you get back outside, wait for the guard to move away from the entrance and enter the mall once again.

  • Survive a power outage with gnome complications.

This is unlocked by retracing your steps back to the mall from the security office - in the dark! If you get lost, you will be attacked by gnomes, so this needs to be done first time for the achievement. Your path needs to be down, right, up, up, right, up, left, up, right, up, right. This will unlock as soon as you are back in the mall.

  • Recreate a crime scene to get security off your scent.

For this achievement, you need to solve Cronby’s riddle. He will ask you questions about items in your inventory which you will need to answer correctly. You will need certain items in your inventory of which some can only be collected once you have solved his riddle. The items are a mannequin, a red dress, red high heels from the shoe department, a candy necklace which is a skeeball prize, green cotton candy from Cavity City and a sun hat found in the hat store. Once you have everything, go to the massage spa and build a woman out of the things you have collected. This will allow you to take coins from the fountain, which are used for a few other achievements.

Note: If you are going for the “Heads, You Lose!”, make sure you do this first as completing this achievement will make it unobtainable.

  • Correctly answer a riddle as if your life depended on it.

When you get to the riddle section with Cronby, you need to answer all of his riddles correctly. He will give you riddles about things in your inventory - for example “Bring me a plea for a missing best friend” would be the missing dog flyer, or “Always hidden when needed, never where I'm left. I crawl under cushions, while you sit unaware” would be the TV remote. His questions don’t change if you get one wrong and have to retry, so try again. Most of them are quite obvious, but if you have a ton of stuff in your inventory this may take a few tries.

  • Have your life ended in 10 unique ways.

There are around 20 unique ways to die in the game, and you will probably get a fair few of them even if playing without a walkthrough. Generally drink and eat stuff that you find, let yourself get killed by monsters and make no attempt to run from danger and you will get at least ten.

  • Survive the game to completion.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

This will unlock upon completing the final scene with Slappy in the bookstore. Go through the dialogue in any way you wish, and the achievement will unlock upon the conclusion of the story.

  • Take a photograph using the Haunted Camera.

    See “Say Cheese--Again!

  • Complete the game without ever using the cell phone.

To avoid using your cell phone, you will need to use the pay phone in the food court. To do this, you need to get the coins from the fountain by setting up by recreating the crime scene (see “The Monster Who Cried Girl”). Using your phone to free the ghost in your house is still allowed with this.

  • Charge your cell phone.

This one is really simple. Next to the pay phone in the food court is a power outlet. Use this to charge your phone.

  • Complete the game after draining your phone to 0% battery.

Once you get to Cavity City in the mall, repeatedly try to call your brother. Eventually, the battery will die and the phone in your inventory will show a dead battery symbol. Now just finish the game without charging it again.

  • Intimidate a very deadly creature.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

When you meet the creature in the forest on the way to get the mall keycard, talk to him, then use the shrunken head that you got from the removal van on him for this one.

  • Grab every item you possibly can.

This is one of the easily missable achievements. There are 105 different inventory items that you can pick up, all of which are mentioned in the walkthrough. Follow it to the letter to ensure you get this on your non-speed run playthrough. The walkthrough by Gage over at PST can be found HERE.

  • Tell Aunt Dahlia about your weekend plans

You will meet Aunt Dahlia in the dining room of the house early on in the game. When you chat with her, answer the questions as follows:

    1 - No Way
    2 - Apologize
    3 - Decline
    4 - Give Details
    5 - Change Subject
    6 - Keep Talking

Secret achievements

  • Place the Magician's Top Hat on its rightful owner.

You will find the Magician’s Top Hat in the back of the removal van. Once you have it, go to the pipe tunnel near where the game started and put it on top of the white rabbit that is there.

  • Toss 10 expendable items into a deep, dark hole.

In the pipe tunnel, there is a deep, dark hole on the right hand side of it. Throw any ten items down it to unlock this one. You can only throw miscellaneous items down it - items that are not needed for anything else, so you won’t be able to get this the first time you visit the area. You will go through the tunnel a few times, so either dump a few items each time you pass through or wait until later in the game when you have an abundance of useless items.

  • Use modern technology to give the second Ghost Child his heart's desire.

For this one, you need to do a few steps. You first need to get the cassette from the old lady in the dining room, then go to the study after getting the key from the kitchen sink. Use the computer, and use the cassette on the search bar, allowing you to download the music to your cell phone. Then use your cell phone on the second child.

  • Track down RL Stine in the phone book and give him a call.

To call RL Stine, you need to use the pay phone in the food court of the mall. You need coins from the drained fountain to use it (see “The Monster Who Cried Girl” for how to do this). Next to the pay phone, there is a phone book. Read through it, and choose to remember "Ghoulberg". You will see a bubble over the pay phone, so insert your coins and make the call.

  • Find a way to call RL Stine without touching gross coins or a dirty phone receiver.

Next to the pay phone in the food court is a phone book. Use this and memorise “Ghoulberg”. Go outside and use your cell phone and call the number - it will show as “???” in your phone. If for whatever reason your phone’s battery is dead, you can charge it with the power outlet next to the pay phone.

  • Find entry into the bookstore.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

The bookstore is the last area of the game, and can be accessed from Cavity City (the candy shop) in the mall. To unlock the door to it, you need to select candy that totals a specific price. Pick up a bag, and fill it with the following:

    Fruit Caps
    Fruit Orbs
    PB Cups
    Ch. Pretz
    Sug. Caps

Then place your bag on the scales and the door will unlock, along with your achievement.

  • Take pictures of the 7 most deadly monsters using the Haunted Camera.

You will get the camera fairly early on in the game - it is in the cupboard next to the laundry room. You will find film for it in various locations as you play through the game. You need to take pictures of the following monsters when you encounter them:

1 - The old lady in the dining room of the house
2 - The monster in the forest
3 - The toy robot in the guest room
4 - The goo in the shrinking room
    5 - The mall guard
6 - The leprechaun in the make-up department of the mall
7 - The mannequin next to the leprechaun in the mall

  • Achieve a perfect game of skeeball.

You will find the skeeball game is found in the mall. You will need coins to play it, see “The Monster Who Cried Girl” for how to get them. It is advisable to save your game before you try this, as you will run out of coins after a few goes, and you don’t want to have to retrace too many steps. You need a score of 250, getting 50 points with each of your five balls. This may take a little practice, but isn’t too hard.

  • Defeat Slappy while wearing the Haunted Mask.

The haunted mask is one of the items you will get from the laundry chute while going for “Be Careful What You Wish For…”. Just before you get to the library, put the mask on and finish the game without taking it off. Don’t put it on too early, as wearing it for too long will kill you.

  • Pry the Haunted Mask off your face.

The haunted mask is one of the items you will get from the laundry chute while going for “Be Careful What You Wish For…”. When you get to the mall, go into the massage kiosk to the left. Put the mask on, then use the face lifter in the kiosk to remove it.

  • Finish the game in 300 turns or fewer.

See “How I Learned to Fly

  • Finish the game in 175 turns or fewer.

A turn, is basically an action in the game. Going into a room, using an item, talking to somebody, etc. The game isn’t long, but to guarantee this achievement you will need to do a speedrun. A full step by step walkthrough written by Gage over at PST can be found HERE, use the first playthough to make sure you finish in under 175 moves.

  • Gather all possible items dropped from the laundry chute.

There are six possible items you can get from the laundry chute, and they are random, so this could take you ten minutes or an hour, depending on how kind the game is to you. Go to the upstairs bathroom, and start throwing items from your inventory down the laundry chute in the cupboard. Then go downstairs to the laundry room, and sitting on top of the dirty laundry will be either the thing you tossed, or one of these six items. The items are:

    1 - Haunted Mask
    2 - Doll
    3 - Toy Plane
    4 - Mini Monitor
    5 - Puzzle Cube
    6 - Bean Bag

  • Be proactive and start your laundry.

When you collect your clothes from your bedroom, take them downstairs instead of throwing them down the laundry chute. Go to the laundry room and put them in the washing machine, put detergent from the shelf in it and close the lid.

  • Narrowly escape defeat by wearing a talisman into the woods.

The talisman can be found in the kitchen drawer of your house. Once you have this, you can walk right by the plant monster in the woods and this will unlock.

  • Discover Slappy's secret shame.

When talking to Slappy at the end of the game, give the following responses:

    1 - Give Name
    2 - Finish His thought
    3 - Bluff
    4 - Really?
    5 - Pry
