Ubisoft has revealed roughly how big each of Star Wars Outlaws' planets will be - equivalent to around “two or three” stitched together zones from Assassin's Creed Odyssey, taking about “four or five minutes" to traverse from the saddle of a speeder bike.
That's according to Creative Director Julian Gerighty, who told IGN that the first place you visit in Outlaws as scoundrel protagonist Kay Vess, is the moon of Toshara. This will take "four or five minutes non-stop" to ride across from one end to the other, although there will be plenty of activities and stuff happening along the way.
"[It] doesn't sound like a lot, but once you're committed it's a fairly large amount and you are always going to be distracted," Gerighty added. He also noted that Tatooine will be considerably larger than other planets, although you can expect a lot of that to be sand, while the jungle planet of Akiva will be similar in size to Toshara.
So far we know that Star Wars Outlaws will have five planets to explore, with Game Director Mathias Karlson noted that each will have its own “living world systems”, ensuring they're teeming with NPC pedestrians, Imperial patrols, people in land speeders and on speeder bikes, wildlife, and other stuff.
Gerighty says that developer Massive Entertainment is taking a “quality over quantity” approach when it comes to optional content and side activities, but states that you'll be seeing distractions like the Empire making arrests, or a criminal syndicate attempting to take Kay down and score a bounty.
“Every two, three minutes there'll be something that's happening, whether it's an ambush or the Empire arresting some civilians or getting into combat with some criminal syndicates,” Gerighty explained, adding that it's “up to you whether you want to engage or not". Hopefully, this doesn't mean that Vess won't get any downtime.
Star Wars Outlaws is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on 30th August.
