During Alan Wake's eighth chapter in Alan Wake 2's "Initiation" saga, you'll head to Poet's Cinema in the aptly named, “Initiation 8: Zane's Film.”
It's a tricky chapter, in truth, and you may, more often than not, hit a literal brick wall blocking your path with no obvious way on how to proceed.
One of those moments will surely come when you get into Poet's Cinema's Backlot.
The issue in the Backlot is that there are a lot of distractions that can take away from where you actually need to go - like the Echo above the garage of someone falling to their death. While this Echo is essential to the plot, you can’t actually access it from the Backlot - or even by getting onto the roof of the garage itself.
The Backlot scene, “Out in the Night,” works a lot like the Lobby scene in Poet’s Cinema, in that the key to success is where you actually stand. However, here we won't be using the different Plot Elements per se, but we’ll be using the Angel Lamp to open the route ahead.
Firstly, in order to progress through the Backlot and onto Poet's Cinema's roof, you need to set the scene to the “New York's Finest” Plot Element, to spawn the cop car.
Then, you want to head inside the garage and stand in the corner by the window with the metal grate covering it up (so you can still see the cop car through it). When you’re in there, use your Angel Lamp to absorb the light.
Doing that will change the scene around you, building a barrier between you and the rest of the Backlot. But doing the above will actually put you on the correct side of the barrier that has just spawned, and will allow you to access a door in the previously inaccessible area that has just appeared.
That door takes you to the roof, which is exactly where you need to be.
How to get the Backlot Echo in Poet's Cinema in Alan Wake 2
Now, if you want that aforementioned Echo that I referred to above, make your way up the ladder and into the Central Area.
When up there head down and into the southeast corner - if you look at the map, it’ll say “Cinema Sign” next to it. That’s where you need to head.
When there, climb down the ladder and walk the catwalk to the end, and then look down to the right at the garage you were just in - in the Backlot.
Next thing you need to do is head to the Plot Board and change the Plot Element to “The Cult of the Word.” Once you’ve done that the Echo will appear, which after you’ve watched it, will unlock the final Plot Element for Poet’s Cinema, “The Grandmaster” Plot Element.
