2019 will always be known as the year that we saw the cursed Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer for the first time, sparking online ridicule, to the point that SEGA and Paramount actually made changes to the blue hedgehog himself! But seriously, 2019 was so much more than that. In 2019 we saw the first ever image of a black hole; saw the first all-female spacewalk outside the ISS; Disney joined the streaming wars with Disney Plus; and we had to watch devastatingly as a fire ripped through the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. Somehow, Boris Johnson became Prime Minister in the UK in 2019 too, while The Prodigy’s Keith Flint passed away, and the world was shocked after the tragic death of Argentinian footballer, Emilano Sala, who died in a plane crash on his way to sign for Cardiff City. 3 very tragic events. 2019 was also the end of Marvel’s Infinity Saga thanks to the release of Endgame and finally Far From Home. The Korean film, Parasite, was also one of the year’s big success stories too. In the world of games, 2019 saw Apex Legends become the next big battle royale hit, while Activision and Bungie broke-up, and Google’s Stadia launched. In 2019 both Sony’s Kaz Hirai and Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime both retired (the latter who was replaced by Doug Bowser… no joke!). 2019 was also the year we finally got a glimpse at the next-generation of consoles, while Sony decided to skip E3. On top of that Blizzard banned a Hearthstone player for supporting the Hong Kong protests, upsetting their entire community and reputation in one fell swoop, while Sony bought Insomniac Games and Microsoft bought Double Fine. What a year! Here’s the best Xbox games of 2019.
