Best Xbox Games of 2018

2018 had it all! Controversy, check. Shocking news, check. More controversy, check. A smidgen of good news, check. And yes, more controversy, check. It was a year that had a royal wedding, when Harry met Meghan; Europe went into overdrive with its crazy GDPR laws; all while Saudi Arabia lifted its ban on women drivers. Yay. But then somehow managed to kill a journalist, Jamal Khashoggi. Yikes. 2018 was also the year that Stephen Hawking sadly passed away, France won the World Cup again, and the Thailand cave rescue dominated the headlines for a few weeks. It was also the year that drones brought Heathrow to a standstill for 3 days, and 1 American won $1.5b on the lottery. Yes, billion! We were blessed with Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, as well as Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. We finally got to find out ‘God’s Plan’ thanks to Drake, while Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa taught us that ‘One Kiss’ is all it takes. 2018 was even the year Spielberg went big again with his take on the popular book, Ready Player One. In terms of games, Microsoft went on a shopping spree in 2018, buying Undead Labs, Playground Games, Ninja Theory, Obsidian and Compulsion Games, while Telltale Games, Capcom Vancouver and Cliff Blezinski’s Boss Key all unfortunately closed. 2018 was all about Fornite though, and how it hit the mainstream. Fallout 76 experienced a pretty disastrous launch in 2018 too, while the industry responded to the great 2017 lootbox controversy and developer crunch became a talking point after Red Dead 2’s launch. 2018 also saw Call of Duty drop its campaign for the first time, while PlayStation caved in and allowed console cross-play. Bethesda even announced The Elder Scrolls VI for next-gen… before next-gen had been announced! It was a good year for games, here’s 2018’s best Xbox games.
