Alan Wake 2 - All Inventory Expansion Item Locations (Saga & Alan Wake)

Dan Webb

Remedy and Alan Wake 2 attempted to go all Resident Evil on people’s asses this year. Not only does Alan Wake have Break Rooms (a la safe rooms) and Coffee Thermoses in them to save your game (a la typewriters), but they also introduced its own form of inventory management.

Now, you’re going to fall into two camps with inventory management: you either love it or hate it. We love it. But even then, as you get more weapons - especially the Hunting Rifle, the Doubled-Barrelled Shotgun and the Pump-Action Shotgun, you’re going to want more space, as those weapons are beefy and take up more than a few slots.

In Alan Wake 2, Saga can collect inventory expansion satchels, and once she picks one up, Saga’s inventory will expand by 5 blocks. From start to finish, Saga can pick up 4 of these, expanding your inventory by a whopping 20 slots!

Alan’s inventory is a little different to Saga’s, in that you don’t expand it with satchels or anything like that. Instead, Alan must seek out Words of Power, specifically Words of Stuff. Words of Stuff are by far the rarest, and therefore, the most valuable Words of Power in Alan Wake 2. There are only 3 abilities to buy, and only two instances of the Word of Stuff in Alan's campaign.

Below you will find all 3 of Saga’s inventory expansion items and the two Words of Stuff, one of which you can use to expand Alan’s inventory.

Saga’s Inventory Expansion Satchel Locations

  • Inventory Expansion Satchel #1 - “Return 2: The Heart” - After fighting your first Taken Cultist in chapter 2, in the General Store, you’ll find the inventory expansion satchel in the room that he barged out of, on the right. It’ll be under where the Sawed-Off Shotgun is.

  • Inventory Expansion Satchel #2 - “Return 2: The Heart” - Before you leave Cauldron Lake after closing the Overlap, head southeast under the log and then crouch under another set of logs further down that path, and you’ll see a Cult Stash straight ahead. Inside you’ll find a propane tank, a hand flare, some shotgun ammo, and another inventory expansion satchel.
  • Inventory Expansion Satchel #3 - “Return 5: Old Gods” - After closing the Overlap, before starting “Return 6: Scratch” (at the Sheriff’s Station), head to the waterfront in Downtown Bright Falls. Opposite the garage in Downtown Bright Falls, on the promenade, is a locked fence you can use the Boltcutters on. When inside, the stash is on the right. The solution can be found on wooden struts in the surrounding water. 6 is top, 9 is middle, and 7 is bottom; meaning the code is 697. This stash contains another inventory expansion satchel.
  • Inventory Expansion Satchel #4 - Post “Return 6: Scratch” - After opening all Cult Stashes in Alan Wake 2, the last one will contain the Lighthouse Key. Go to the Lighthouse and this fourth inventory expansion satchel will be on the small table to the right as you walk in.

Alan Wake Inventory Expansion Words Location

  • Word of Power - Word of Stuff Location - “Initiation 5: Room 665” - In the Ballroom inside the Oceanview Hotel, look up behind the bar for your first Word of Stuff. While you can use this Word of Power to mark all nearby resources on your map, you can also use it to expand Alan’s inventory by 5 slots too.
  • Words of Power - Words of Stuff Location - “Initiation 8: Zane’s Film” - On the rooftop of Poet’s Cinema, in the Central Area, near the Spotlights. There’s a container and a stash at the far northern end.  From the stash, turn south and look down and to the right. It’s on the brick wall down there. If you didn’t use it to unlock the inventory expansion the first time around, you can use it now.
