  • How to unlock Affinity and Beyond

Most people you encounter in Dragon’s Dogma 2 have an affinity level i.e. how much they like you. You can raise a person’s affinity by doing quests for them or by giving them gifts they like. As for unlocking this achievement, I actually unlocked it unwittingly, by doing a series of optional side quests, and then an open-world escort mission - not a gift in sight. So, then, how did we do it so easily?

Well, outside of Roderick’s Smithy in Vernworth you’ll find an elf called Glyndwr, who will ask for a “human-made bow” - which starts the side quest, “Gift of the Bow.” After giving him the bow, and returning later, his next quest becomes available, “A Trial of Archery,” where you need to head to Sacred Arbor in the north-northwest of Vermund, and then descend into the Ancestral Chamber nearby to save his sister.

Now, I know what you’re thinking… we’re talking about this because we maxed out our relationship with Glyndwr. Actually, no. What happened after that quest was that we returned to Sacred Arbor, and then an escort quest popped up for us, for Taliesin, the dad of Glyndwr.

Now, Taliesin was already over the moon when we saved his sister (not enough to max out his affinity, mind), but apparently escorting him to the Mountain Ruins (south of Sacred Arbor) was enough to max out his affinity and unlock the achievement.

If you’re looking to build someone’s affinity with gifts, rather than this method: hit the pause menu, go to History > NPC Logbook, and then scroll down to find the character you’re trying to max out. Under their name it will tell you their likes. For instance, Wilhelmina, from Vernworth’s Rose Chateau Bordelrie, likes “beautiful items” and “adorable items.” So, get gifts that fit that description, talk to her, and then hit the button-a.png button to give them a gift.

Whether you’ve raised the affinity to the maximum via quests or gifts, or a combination of the two, as soon as they reach maximum affinity, the ‘Affinity and Beyond’ achievement will unlock. Just bear in mind, that you can only get the affinity rewards from a gift, once every 24 hours (and the easiest way to max someone out with gifts, is with 2 Wyrmslife Crystals).

You can keep a track of how many (if any) NPCs you have at max affinity if you go to the pause menu, go to History > Adventure Logbook > NPCs > and you can find it under “NPCs with Max Affinity.
