These savage reptilian mercenaries act as the defensive support troops for the Covenant. They tend to travel in packs of two and prove to be quite a burden in killing if you are not aware of their explicit weakness.

Typically serving as sniper scouts and defensive fighters, Jackals enjoy to keep their distance in battle given their keen perception of sight and hearing. The standard defensive Jackals are simply armed with wrist-mounted energy shields and Plasma Pistols. On the other hand, Jackal Snipers and Rangers are armed with Carbines and Beam Rifles. When dealing with the former variant, try to pick off shots at the small slits in their wrist-mounted shield. This causes them to stumble back, exposing themselves for further attacks such as headshots. The latter variant are vicious and unforgiving so make sure to utilize cover often when dealing with them from afar. Jackals are the second-most common enemy found within the game and will appear in nearly every single level of each Campaign. Once you have killed a total of 1,000 Jackals, this achievement will unlock.
