  • How to unlock Begins with a Single Step

As you start this mission, you will immediately be made aware that this is predominantly a vehicle-emphasized mission, though you will have no problem completing it on foot, especially if you are playing with one or two other players. With that said, avoid grabbing the Warthogs in the hanger bay at the start of this mission and simply wait until the blast door is opened by the Marine. From here, you’ll have to traverse the landscape on foot and pass through a number of valleys containing Sniper Jackals and Brutes of varying ranks. It is highly recommended to grab a Beam Rifle and Fuel Cannon during these initial firefights.

After clearing out the first major blockade and the swarm of Drones, continue down the main road on foot into the next valley filled with Brutes and Grunts. Here, you’ll need to kill the initial wave of enemies before a few waves of appear via Phantoms. There’s plenty of equipment and weaponry around this valley so the following waves of enemies – containing Wraiths and Choppers - shouldn’t be too rough.

As mentioned earlier, this achievement is better suited with cooperative partners as they can utilize the firepower of Covenant vehicles to kill enemy troops while you stay back on foot. All in all, after this long-winded battle, continue on through the mission until your required to climb up to a bridge and proceed down the highway. Be ready to fend off against several more waves of Brutes and Sniper Jackals. Once all the enemies at the end of the highway have been dealt with, destroy the Shield Generator to finish the mission. If you managed to avoid using any vehicles throughout this mission, the achievement will unlock after the concluding cutscene.

  • This takes about 12 mins to do, being on easy difficulty & solo.

  • Didn't unlock for me. I did use a gun turret. But not technically a vehicle. Unless 343 think so.
  • #3 Yeah, the same issue is happening in the Ark, it seems like picking up turrets count as a vehicle, just avoid picking them up.
  • Did this achievement with a buddy. One person can get in vehicles and pull everyone along via warps, and as long as they don't pick up a turret or get in a vehicle the achievement will pop.
  • Way easy Solo when doing in the Easy setting. Finished in about 25mins. Would have beaten the Par Time if I didn't waste 5mins trying to find the Skull, and taking out a Wraith that I didn't need to.
  • TLDR; If you accidentally get in a vehicle or pick up a turret you can load the last checkpoint point. OMG I literally got to the VERY END of the level, killed the chieftan brute and went to reload and accidentally picked up the PLASMA TURRET! I yelled OOOOOOOH NOOOOOOOO!!! I immediately loaded my last checkpoint and played through, again, and finished the level. And I got the ACHV. I don't know if it's because I loaded my checkpoint so quickly. Or if just loading your checkpoint itself fixes it. But heads up.
  • Playing missions designed for vehicles on foot and on Easy is just boring. Every Halo game has this kind of achievement or even multiple. But yeah, super simple. Playing on Easy is almost cheating, no one really can kill you and you can skip most enemies. The only enemies you need to kill are at the end of the level (stay close to the barrier and the end of the mission will trigger before you even kill all of them.
  • Didn‘t unlock for me. Had skulls activated - that‘s why?
